Definitions:
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.
Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)
Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

@TvFreak
Castle/H50 fans: Seriously, is it not possible to actually like BOTH shows? I do.
Don’t you know it’s one or the other, you are not allowed to like both LOL
But it happens everywhere including the gaming community, you can’t like WOW and SWTOR it has to be one or the other. Star Wars not my thing I’ll stick to WOW hahaha
I’m just glad that The Good Wife was renewed. Intelligent writing and good acting. I hope they don’t cancel both CSI spinoffs, but you never know. They’ve both been on for a long time and cost a lot.
I do find the Castle vs. H50 posts amusing. I don’t watch either show but be assured CBS will keep H50 no matter how low the ratings go, since they have sydication and franchise deals in place. Once again, it’s all about the money.
Yes let’s renew HOD that gets a 1.3 in its FIRST season. That makes so much sense? In its following season its bound to drop
@Michael
Other than Smash, which shows have I attacked, lashed out at or mocked the fans because I don’t like the show?
I point out shows that have ratings issues, that’s not an attack, that’s discussing facts. I will “attack” shows I like that aren’t doing as well, storyline wise, as I want them to or are suffering from other issues. I will, from time to time, make fun of the extreme fan who appears to have little if any grasp on reality.
But for the most part I have said it’s live and let live … if I don’t watch a show then I could care less how well or poorly it does … again, other than Smash, Smash is evil incarnate and must be destroyed.
YMMV
I’m shocked that 2BG’s finale was it’s series low. That said, they shouldn’t have made it an hour long show. Going against The Voice and DWTS hurt it. Still, it’s good enough to anchor an hour, especially Thursdays at 9 which would give CBS victories on most (if not all) Thursdays.
They should also move H50 to Tuesdays at 10 after the NCIS twins next year. It would make sense considering all the times they’ve done crossover episodes, and the ratings would be higher too since it appeals to most NCIS fans (myself included).
hell yeah HoD! thats nuts!
@kara you realize that HOD was 3rd in total viewers last week behind TVD and SPN?
What was CBS thinking to make HIMYM and 2BG to have one hour finales when they could have broken them into half hours and aired them in the normal fashion, protecting both shows? When you have a very time period dependent “hit” like 2BG, you don’t abandon it and make it lead off the hour.
@Karen 05
What did they do wrong? Besides sounding like trolls. I wouldn’t worry about them either way, haters don’t cancel shows.
You have to remember that a large percent of people here play the my show is better than yours game, best thing to do is either comment about the numbers, or discuss stuff with people and not fall into that trap too.
I am speechless looking at the “Gossip Girl” live/same day ratings. The most expensive hour per viewer in the history of television? Who is bankrolling this program?
@KJ Styles
Well, 2BG performed the same as it always does at 8.30. I think it probably just pulled a 2.9 because not every viewer knew it was on at 8. I remember in the fall, it performed exactly the same at 8.30 as it did at 8pm, so it doesn’t need a lead in.
gossip girl is an embarrassment… i think the writers should have been smart and closed of the series this season.. if mark renews gossip girl then he is dummer than dawn
Castle was very good yesterday. All the cast was wonderful, but the scenes with Nathan and Stana were the best ever.
Happy for the numbers and to see a 2.5 demo with just a 2.6 demo lead in. Too bad dwts was not stronger, because Castle numbers would had been even higher.
Next season is going to be epic because fans have been wanting Castle and Beckett together for months.
Good job Castle !!!!
@Freyja: Funny.
@KJ Styles: Yes, H50 after the NCIS’s would do very well.
castle fan this is the first time castle beats hawaii five 0 this year so shut it and it increased because its the season finale you cant say nothing to that go hawaii five 0 although i watch castle but hawaii five 0 is much better and im a huge fan of five 0
It will be hilarious if The Bachelorette beats Hawaii Five-0 next week
I really hope NBC decides against doing 2 seasons a year for The Voice. That will just kill the franchise and it’s ratings.
The voting system for THE VOICE one reason I hate it… Gives judges wayyy to much power, and they could
play favorites.. The iTunes possion of songs give away whose leading the vote… Also CeeLo was giving dealty threats last night on twitter.
wow DWTS and Castle werte the highest rated shows last night…sweet. love them both
Yes Samuel it will. Also they need to change days. Dancing , who many said wouls bomb against the voice, is still strong.
