Fox has renewed Touch for a second season  - no word on number of episodes ordered yet. Not a surprise, both Bill and I thought renewal was more likely than cancellation.

Alcatraz is dead (no surprise)  and now Fox has canceled The Finder too (also no surprise).

Additionally Fox picked up 3 new comedies and two new dramas.

My wife and I gave Terra Nova, Alcatraz, and Touch all a chance, and weren’t thrilled with any of them. Terra Nova got a little for the last 2-3 hours. Alcatraz had a decent pilot, but we soon got bored with it and never really started to care, even though it got a little more exciting at the end. We mostly gave up on Touch after the 3rd episode. We’re still DVR’ing it and will watch the season finale since it got renewed. If we like it enough, we might give it another chance. However, I’m still with everyone else who says it will not get a 3rd season.

    Tigs,

I’d guess that some people don’t like it for it’s ratings, some because it’s been competing with shows they like more for renewal, some fans may dislike it because it moved their favorite from that premium schedule slot. I can imagine that some may not care for Kring or Sutherland or someone else connected with it. And I’ve heard that some just really don’t like the show itself. And of course there are always the trolls.

I’ve never spoken out about the show myself, but I find it quite unrealistic. There may be other reasons, but those are the ones that occur to me immediately.

Well, time to head over to NBC and watch another going-to-be canceled JJ Abrams show in Revolution.

The Following looks more interesting than touch, alcatraz, the finder, bones, house, idol, x factor, and gordon ramsay stuff combined

I find Touch to be a pretty interesting show so I’m glad it’s been renewed, but given FOX’s history I won’t be surprised if they eventually cancel it. I still haven’t forgiven them for cancelling Human Target!

It’s weird, because when that Gugu chick was on Spooks a few years ago, she didn’t have a raspy/deep voice. She sounded…perky.

Touch is terrible. Would rather watch Terra Nova or Alcatraz.

Neither cancellation surprised me, but I’m very surprised Fox is giving “Touch” a stay of execution. The raw numbers are even less than the ratings that got “The Chicago Code” cancelled, the retentionistas are complaining that the show loses more than half of its “American Idol” lead-in, and when last I heard, Fox was not in Keifer Sutherland’s good graces after the long-awaited “24″ movie got scuttled over budget issues.

My predictions, and my hopes all came true. Let me explain that. I never wish for a show’s demise, EXCEPT when said demise will help to ensure the renewal of another show. So, back when we were all freaking out about Fringe, I was praying that Fox would open up spaces by canceling Alcatraz (which really was a cheap Fringe-wannabe, and not intriguing whatsoever) and The Finder, which was funny and cutesy, but not really quality TV, in my opinion at least. But once they renewed Fringe, I really didn’t care which shows got renewed or cancelled, except for Touch. Because I really do love it. But once again, it will suffer the fate of new and unique show that the general masses aren’t patient enough to hold on to. But whatever, at least it got a second season! Ok I’m done. :)

Since Touch is airing around the world at almost the same time, I wonder how it doing internationally.

    Can anybody tell me?

I’m glad I gave up on both of those shows about half-way in.

Im not surprised by this move.
Its doing well in UK,better than Smash or Awake anyway.
Its one of the better written shows this season.

  12. K-Fed

@Travis…me too! Assuming you are talking about Alcatraz and The Finder!

A shame about Alcatraz. I enjoyed it and it felt like a show that was setting itself for the second season to be its real takeoff, but unfortunately if you don’t succeed right away, you probably won’t see the second season. I will admit, it didn’t help that the season (now series) finale was very lackluster.

So what is left for Fox?? Napolean Dynamite and Bob’s Burgers?? Any word on those two or are they both getting the can??

  15. Trey

YES! The ratings were slipping, but it’s a quality show. A very good show. Glad it’s coming back. Hopefully it can grow,

Touch will be cancelled too next year.
I hope the 2 newbie 2012-2013 Fox dramas do better than this year’s crop.

Guess, I’ll continue to watch Touch then, although next season maybe its last. I think its a good show but not anywhere near 24 or Heroes. Kiefer’s character is too passive and the background story is weak. I mean all we see is that he is trying to keep the custody of his son. The show needs an interesting background story. There is no “villain” and no direction (these numbers and events are interconnected thing gets repetitive after a few episodes), at least not the kind of direction that will keep me wondering what will happen in the next episode.

I hope Kiefer wont drop the 24 movie idea after this pickup.

  18. Simon

Bet they must regret cancelling Terra Nova when they did! The only new drama NOT to fall below the 2millon point in the 18-49 demographic, they SHOULD have waited longer. Glad that Kiefer will be around next year, great seeing him on TV again though I’m worried for thw 24 movie now

  19. SmG

FOX is done with its pilot pickups, all pilots are dead except legal drama Guilty which won’t have a decision till after a few weeks (post upfronts). The hyped Karyn Usher spy pilot Rogue is amongst the dead.

I think I would have preferred Alcatraz over Touch though I quite enjoy both. Viewing figures in the UK for Alcatraz on the Watch channel are very healthy (around 1.3m) which compares very well with US imports on Sky’s own channels (ie Touch, Awake, Mad Men, etc)…
