'Community' Renewed by NBC for a Fourth Season

NBC has renewed Community for 13 episodes.  The renewal itself should come as no surprise, but I confess the episode order does surprise me a little bit.  Community needed 17 episodes to get to 88 episodes, generally considered to be the minimum acceptable for Mon-Fri stripped syndication, but perhaps like "88 is the new 100," "84 has become the new 88."

Note: unlike the renewal of 30 Rock, this renewal is not being spun as a final season, so it's possible Community can still get to 88 episodes and beyond.

I hope this isn’t going to be a final season. While I don’t exactly root for #sixseasonsandamovie, I still think Community deserves more than a half-season to end. Same with 30 Rock. It’s probably the result of NBC ordering too many sitcoms, most of which could probably fail.

First on the best news ever?

  • Tom Morgan

    yay

I’m just glad at this point it is coming back though hopefully they will extend the order depending on how the new sitcoms do.

  • Allen

    This makes no sense.

I’m happy, but this is just weird.

Pressuring people to watch maybe? No idea here…

  • Tommy

I think that if the show returns to similar numbers as it’s season average NBC will pick it up for an additional 4-6 episodes…

  • Mikey

according to the other blogs reporting the renewals Parks and Rec, Community, and 30 rock all got 13 episode final season orders.

Well, now I’m just going to have to go ahead and pray that most of NBC’s new sitcoms in August fail miserably so that they’re forced to give Community a back 9 order. Thanks for putting me in this position, NBC.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m thrilled that the show is returning at all. But it deserves at least a full final season to end its run.

  • Samuel

Great that this is coming back!!! I expect this to be extended too…

  • John

Awesome news about the renewal, I wonder if they extend the order if one of the new comedies fails

  • Kavyn

13 with a back 9? Or just 13. That’s pretty lame considering it needs 17 episodes for syndication…

You have to be kidding me right now. Up All Night and Whitney are higher rated with more potential. Then again, I read this the final season for Community, and Parks and Rec and 30 Rock.

oh my frigging days can thisday get any better, today i found out that am deffo going to college this september and i finish skool next week and now cougar town is moving, community parenthood renewal and the stars of greys anatomy made new deals ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh soo happy

Robert, I’d say 80 is the new 100 (even 76 in FNL’s case).

    what is NBC doing?
Many NBC shows have been renewed for 13 episodes, leaves big holes in the schedule, and loses syndication.
NBC new shows in better all be big hits or what is left of NBC?
    I don’t understand NBC.

    What should NBC do now?

” NBC renewed Community for 13 episodes. Community needed 17 episodes to get to 88 episodes, generally considered to be the minimum acceptable for Mon-Fri stripped syndication, but perhaps like “88 is the new 100,” “84 has become the new 88.”"

I’m very happy right now and relived but what about Parks?

  • SJ

It doesn’t look like Community and 30 Rock’s episode orders are set in stone; I really think they’ll each get a couple more if some of their August sitcoms fail.

Whitney blows with a capital *puts lips together and blows*

Community is the best show on TV today. It just goes to show that your average TV viewer is too dumb to get its jokes.
