“Missing” (8:00-9:00 p.m.)

Gaining week to week in the 8 o’clock hour, against the season’s penultimate episode of Fox’s “American Idol-Thurs” and CBS’ comedies (season finale of “The Big Bang Theory”/”Rules of Engagement”), ABC’s “Missing” (6.4 million) more than doubled the audience of NBC’s comedy block (+113% over “Community”/”30 Rock” = 3.0 million). The new ABC drama also defeated the established NBC comedies with Adults 25-54 (+7%) and Women 18-49 (+7%).

  • ABC’s “Missing” attracted its biggest audience in 3 weeks (since 4/19/12) and improved its hour year to year by 19% over original programming on the year-ago evening (“Wipeout” on 5/12/11 = 5.4 million).

“Grey’s Anatomy” (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

Vaulting over its lead-in at 9:00 p.m. in Adults 18-49 (+209%), ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” stood as the top-rated series in its hour for the 5th week running and continued to qualify as Thursday’s No. 1 drama.  Dominating the 9 o’clock hour, ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” (3.4/9) outdelivered CBS’ “Person of Interest” by 31% (2.6/7), Fox’s “Idol”-driven “Touch” by 70% (2.0/6) and NBC’s comedy finales by 70% (“The Office”/”Parks and Recreation” = 2.0/6).  Additionally, “Grey’s” registered as Thursday’s highest-rated TV series with Adults 18-34 (tie), Women 18-49 (2nd straight week) and Women 18-34 (6th straight week).

  • Rising in viewers (+4%) and young adults (+3%) over the prior week, ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” achieved a 13-week high in Adults 18-49 – since 2/09/12.

  • “Grey’s” was up over its year-ago telecast in Adults 18-49 (+6%), Adults 18-34 (+4%) and across all key Women demos: W18-34 (+8%), W18-49 (+6%) and W25-54 (+3%).

“Scandal” (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

During the 10:00 p.m. hour, ABC freshman “Scandal” earned second place to CBS’ veteran “The Mentalist” in Total Viewers and key Adults (AD18-49/AD25-54).  Also in its time period, ABC’s “Scandal” continued to overshadow its freshman drama competition, more than doubling the results for NBC’s “Awake” in Total Viewers (+160% - 6.5 million vs. 2.5 million), Adults 25-54 (+150% - 2.5/6 vs. 1.0/3) and Adults 18-49 (+122% - 2.0/6 vs. 0.9/2).  Additionally, “Scandal” took full control of “The Mentalist” with Adults 18-34 (+50% - 1.5/5 vs. 1.0/3) and finished No. 1 in its slot for the 6th consecutive week with Women 18-49.

  • “Scandal” built week to week among Adults 18-49 (+5%) to match a series best and also grew with Adults 18-34 (+7%) to hit a new series high.

Blame their high on Summer Glau being on the show for several episodes! :-)

  • Bookworm

So Happy for Grey and even more so for Scandal, Glad to see its been a real hit with Women 18-49. It has been killing Awake for sometime and the Mentalist is far from blowing us out of the water with ratings.

    I do pity Missing.

Grey’s two hour finales would guarantee it staying a powerhouse.

They did it a disservice last year and again this year.

Season six pulled a low of 3.5 then a 5.6 for the second-hour in finale.

Season seven was in the 4s mostly and 3s in spring.

Seasin eight minus Summer Glau pulled 3s mostly and some 4s.

    I think results for season 8 & 9 would benifit form season 7 & 8 being 2-hour finales.

In short, when Grey’s was making a comeback as a big hit, ABC screwed big time.

I called the multi-month high before this release was released :D

I love how ABC has to stretch to say ANYTHING positive about Missing. That show is so pathetic, in so many ways…

  • Scandalfan

So Happy Scandal is doing well best 10PM show on Thursdays.

  • ScandalGladiator

I am sooo happy to hear good news about Scandal and its success in that pivotal demo, the show is amazing overall and I really hope this proves to be a hit.

  • Matto

great. Greys had an amazing epp last night… shouldve deserved over 10M! I hope next week garners over 10M! Last year the finale was VERY weak in storyline and ratings, it only garnered 9.9M!

Person of Interest is best show on Thursday Night.
Like to see more of Taraji P Henson.

ABC is making a big mistake cancelling Missing. The best show on TV. It has mystery, intrigue and keeps you on the edge of your seat. I have not liked a show for many years as much as I like this one. Mostly they have trash on TV, this is the only show I can think of that shows any intelligence, maybe another network will pick it up. I, for one, will not watch ABC anymore. Ashley Judd, you rock, and so do the other actors on the show. We are sorry that ABC is SO STUPID. Ratings, they are going higher each week, you idiots.

  • Rae

I am shocked to hear ABC to cancel Missing. It is one of the best shows I have watched since 24. The best new shows I have enjoyed on TV this season: CBS Person’s of Interest, ABC Missing and Scandal, and USA Suits. I love FOX Touch with Keifer but do not believe it will get the viewers to keep it on. I hate when a network kills a show and leaves viewers hanging. Such is life in TVLand!
