The Cancellation Bear Wishes Kathy Bates Well, As 'Harry's Law' Is Canceled

After NBC's lowest rated show still on the air, Harry's Law, was canceled as expected, TV by the Numbers' beloved cancellation bear wanted to wish his "friend" Kathy Bates all the best after devouring the show.

Update: For those who didn't want to click the link above, here's a bit of the history between HL and the bear:

A bit of hub bub while I was off last week, as Kathy Bates, the star of NBC's Harry's Law, vented publicly about not liking the fact that adults 18-49 ratings determine TV show success in broadcast primetime (and have since the 1970's), and took our very own cancellation bear to task in an article.

“Some of these people are just so stupid. I don’t even get it…. All [they] talk about is the blessed [18-49] demo this, demo that, and how the cancellation bear is gonna eat us and all that stuff. So we’ll see. We’ll just see.”

The only thing our cancellation bear likes more than devouring low rated shows is getting a public shout out from an Academy Award winner. It's better to be known, than loved!

Joining Ms. Bates in her anger over the way ad supported broadcast television works was the Executive Producer ofHarry's Law, Bill D'Elia, who gave us his own shout out:

Nobody cares what we think Mr. D'Elia.

Problem is, the folks selling the advertising at NBC think the same way we do...

Update: I hadn't realized that near the same time as the original tweet above, Bill D'Elia also followed up with this one:

Misinformed? Ignorant? Kathy is right?

Reality's a bitch isn't it Mr. D'Elia?

community is more like 1.3 1.4 but a 1.5 is still bad but not bad enough to be cancelled.

  • garnet

@KJ Styles I suspect you are overestimating the ability of actors to find new work. Ask virtually all the cast of Chuck! None of them have a series going into production this fall although admittedly Yvonne and Vic have done some movie work.

  • DW

kathy bates replaces chevy chase on community?.

  • Nick

@RobertTaylor – this is the business! It is not one where you expect job security. Everyone knows what they’re getting into. I don’t think we need to have a funeral every time a show is cancelled. Those people will more than likely find jobs on one of the many many new shows picked up because they’ll need those roles filled too.

  • RobertTaylor

Again, I understand this. Again, I understand the business.

    Again, it’s a dick move.

Again, I understand this. Again, I understand the business.
    Again, it’s a dick move.

Is celebrating that a movie you like has finished production and will be in theaters soon also a “dick move”?

  • Lisa

@Robert, hmm, ever think that making multiple belligerent, rude posts on someone else’s site is also a “dick move”?

    Obviously not.

And it doesn’t make Harry’s Law any less cancelled. :)

  • Bill Gorman

    “Again, it’s a dick move.”

Save it, sympathy boy. Nobody’s mocking the workers on the show.

Kathy Bates and the EP of the show called us out long ago, based on our prediction.

As you sow, so shall you reap.

    Modern version: Payback’s a bitch.

  • RobertTaylor

Big difference between a movie that has a defined end-date to production and having 80 people unsure of their future after a bubble show is cancelled. The parallel makes no sense.

Rubbing their faces in the fact that they no longer have a job also makes no sense, but then again I have a conscience.

  • RobertTaylor

Good God you people actually sicken me. I’m concerned about the 80 people who just lost their jobs and are now being mocked. Not Kathy Bates. Not the EP. And just because I say that what you are doing is out of line I’m then maligned repeatedly about it. Sympathy Boy? I don’t actually watch the show, just calling it like I see it.

This is ridiculous and my time is better spent elsewhere. Continue dancing, monkeys, over the grave of the show.

  • Saul

@ RobertTaylor: let it go dude…the star of the show, the EP and the fans on this site asked for this post every time they blasted TVBTN just for reporting the facts.

  • joel

Way to be a dick, period. This article is a public service, therapy to give crazy fans like you an outside chance of finding their way back to the real world. How selfish of you to want the cute cancellation bear to starve.

  • The End

    @Bill Gorman

I was wondering who would make a post like this to be honest, was going to aim a question today asking who will write the cancellation post for this show, knowing both you and Robert were eagerly awaiting the news.

Although most people here, including you and Robert knew this show was dead, and to be honest it was for a long time and never, under any circumstances would of been renewed, with all these renewals coming through it makes one pretty nervous haha.

Had my ear to the ground hoping news would filter out for a while actually, nothing was reported from any of the NBC twitter accounts or media reports, the death of this show was going to come this week regardless.

  • Ultima

This is ridiculous and my time is better spent elsewhere.

    Yes, your argument is ridiculous.

  • The End

The production crew for any show really can easily move onto the next show being produced in the area quite easily.

There is always a show needing staff, such as camera guys, sound guys, costume guys, make up guys, pretty much any aspect.

  • Ray

So now the cancellation bear is a troll.

  • I like this show

    LOL @RobertTaylor

That’s all that needs to be said hahaha.

The bear should eat 2 and a Half men next. Anything that Kathy Bates touches should be eaten. Go bear!

  • Bob

    @I like this show,
Why the hate for Kathy Bates. She thought her show was going to be renewed and disagreed with the site owners and they are upset over that????? Wow. I have people disagree with me day in and day out for different things but I don’t make a post like Robert and others did practically celebrating the cancellation of a show. I am surprised grown men would act that way.

  • Dan

The bear has feasted tonight. He knew that he was going to feast on Harry’s Law, Bent, BFF, Awake and Are You there Chelsea but was too full and spared Whitney. He also let Parks, and Community go free as well as Up All Night. Kathy Bates should return full time as Charlie Harper.

On the ABC side The bear has gobbled GCB as well as The River and Missing but there is still no word on whether he will want the low rated Body of Proof.

The bear ate CW’s Ringer and surprisingly Secret Circle but did not want Nikita or Hart of Dixie as they were too gamy.

  • Dana

Lol, nobody messes with the Cancellation Bear!
