ABC's Body of Proof turned out to be my biggest prediction miss this season. The only "certain to be canceled" predicted show that was renewed. I'm still not quite sure how it got renewed, and may never know for certain. Looks like its 13 episode order for next season will be used as a schedule filler, likely for a failed rookie drama, or a mid-season replacement.

Other than that I predicted the fate of every other ABC show correctly in the final guesses this season, most long ago.

With that the Index bids the 2011-12 ABC season adieu, there will be no more ABC Renew / Cancel posts until September. Happy summer, ABC!

The Renew / Cancel Index above includes results beginning January 2, 2012. How did ABC's shows stack up based on their Fall results? Click here.

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2012

  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2012

  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I liked GCB but din’t love it, hated missing and the river anyway.
Thank god the shows I love are all renewed!

  • Nick

    CASTLE – 18 (-1)
    MODERN FAMILY – 2 (+1)

    The family visit

“It tastes bad in my mouth. It’s like a fish and a turkey bit themselves to death with a pepper.”
-Gloria, MF episode 3.23, “Tableau Vivant”
^This has got to be one of the weirdest quotes I’ve ever posted. Just imagine it with Gloria’s accent! lol

  • Rebecca

    CASTLE – 19 (+1)
    MODERN FAMILY – 1 (-1)

quote from CT [2.20] – (I like how they make fun of Tampa in many episodes):
Laurie: It’s like when you hook up with a dude and then you wake up the next morning and he’s gone and there’s just a note on your pillow that says, “Last night was fun. Call me next time you’re in Tampa” – and you’re like, “What? I’m in TAMPA?!?”

  • tvfreak

    Time to end this thing!

And that concludes the Spring 2012 Elimination Game! The Fall 2012 edition will begin on October 9!

And before my quote: Off topic but @Rebecca, how far are you on SPN? Are you at S2 or S3 by now?

“Quick! He’s heading for the time machine!”
-Rick Castle, from Castle 3.04 “Punked”

  • Mira

Well, ABC cancelled quite a few shows I enjoyed very much so I will no longer watch ABC. I’m just about ready to quit all the stupid network shows. They keep cancelling the best shows and leaving crap like DH on. Gimme a break!

  • Rebecca

Ah, the game is over. While I love Modern Family, this season I think Castle was the better show. But consider they’re different genres, so you COULD say Castle was the favorite drama/procedural on ABC (amongst those of us who voted in the game) while Modern Family was the favorite comedy overall.

Since I can’t vote tonight with the game being over I’ll just share one more quote and save the rest for next season.
    Quote from CT [3.12]:
Bobby to Grayson (in Grayson’s hurricane-damaged house): Careful in the kitchen. There’s a family of crows that are living in the oven, and it’s not as funny as it sounds.
Grayson: Crows took my cork screw into the oven. If you get too close, they go for the eyes.

  • Rebecca

With SPN, I’m in season 3 of SPN, episode #14. Still good so far. That’s episode #58 overall, out of the total 126 eps available right now on Netflix. Season 7 is what just finished airing, I guess, so that’s not online yet (it’ll be on hulu plus but I won’t watch until I’m caught up).

  • tvfreak

@Rebecca: Yeah, you’re slightly ahead of me. My next episode will be 3.11. Normally I’d have watched it by this point in the day, but I got 30 Rock S2 and I decided to watch them all today, since it was the strike-shortened season of 15 episodes.

If you want to discuss SPN over the summer – and Fringe, if you start watching it – you can e-mail me at

  • Nick

    Ugh… I can’t wait until October 9! lol

DH is no longer on the air. Don’t you see the words “final season”?

  • Nick

Game finished = summer = new avatar! :-D

  • Frank Lecato

I can’t believe you cancelled GCB and kept Scandal and Revenge!!!!!!!!!!
GCB was by far a much better show, atleast it had some humor to it.
That’s the problem with you so called executives. You show to much violence and reallity crap and not enough comedy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • tvfreak

    @Nick: Me too! :D

Also, the offer to chat about TV via e-mail is open to you, too. :)

  • Rebecca

Thanks, will do. I moved Fringe season one up in the rental queue so we will get to it quicker and upgraded to the three discs out at a time plan, which I always do in the summer. ABC related, we will finish season one of Alias soon and now that I have seen the CT finale we are done with regular tv until the new fall season. I might look at ratings here once in a while over the summer but not regularly. If I catch up to the current season of SPN I think it will air at the same time as other shows I watch so I will probably have to watch it via hulu anyway. My Netflix queue is down to about 62 discs and they are mostly tv shows, lol. A few are from cable, just first seasons to see if I like them before adding more seasons.

  • DG

The shows I like always get canceled move Missing to nine or ten o’clock and give it another season.

  • Andy Ebon

I thought Missing was the most compelling show since 24. Very disappointed at its cancellation.

  • Jill

I love GCB! But the average mother, target audience, doesn’t stay up that late on a school night to watch it! Bad publicity too! I thought it was going to fill my Desperate Housewives void. Sad and mad at ABC

  • KR

Why in the world would they cancel ‘The River?’ The story was going so well. The Boiuna closed up on them. Kurt doesn’t explain how he knows so much about the river. Emmet also has some unanswered questions. Why did it have to end in a cliffhanger cancellation? WHY??????

  • TV Watcher D

Sorry to see GCB is canceled. Thought it was funny and entertaining. Thought from commercials it would be awful, but it was a fun watch. I like Missing, but never really was able to watch it so now I can just delete the 7 episodes on my Tivo instead of wasting my time getting hooked on it. Getting tired of finding shows I like only to have them canceled after one season (and GCB didn’t even get a chance to get a viewership since it started so late). I wish tv channels would give shows time to gain a following before giving them the axe. Ever since Jericho I have lost my faith in tv shows sticking around and I am so sick of reality “competition” tv shows. How many times can you watch someone eat bugs, chase around the globe, sing on tv, or dance the tango. It becomes old fast. At least with comedies and dramas there is a story line to follow.

  • Julie

ABC sucks and I will never watch another show on their station. They have cancelled Missing, V and Flash Forward, all of which pulled you in and left you wanting more, only to find out they were cancelled!! Bad call ABC!!

  • Nick

I’ll take you up on that offer lol.
I don’t watch SPN, but will start viewing Fringe and Raising Hope. Also, I’ve gotta catch up on Castle and Cougar Town. How am I gonna fit it all? :-D
