ABC's Body Of Proof turned out to be my biggest prediction miss this season. The only "certain to be canceled" predicted show that was renewed. I'm still not quite sure how it got renewed, and may never know for certain. Looks like its 13 episode order for next season will be used as a schedule filler, likely for a failed rookie drama, or a mid-season replacement.

Other than that I predicted the fate of every other ABC show correctly in the final guesses this season, most long ago.

With that the Index bids the 2011-12 ABC season adieu, there will be no more ABC Renew / Cancel posts until September. Happy summer, ABC!

The Renew / Cancel Index above includes results beginning January 2, 2012. How did ABC's shows stack up based on their Fall results? Click here.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2012
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2012
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2012
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2012
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

GCB – good riddance to horrible fake Texas accents.

Missing, well, it always was from my watch list.

  • Mike Geary

If given the choice of bringing a show back exclusively for the purpose of mid-season filler, BoP was the best choice out of the bunch. It was already in its second season, and while its ratings were very low, at least it has an audience that is likely to tune in next season for it. That’s better if a rookie show tanks than bringing back a rookie show from this season that was in the process of tanking, say GCB, next season. I wonder if it will get the V treatment next season.

I’m with you City Kitty, Bad show all away around. People from Texas are not like that.

So much for GCB or PAM AM becoming the next DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES. ABC did make a great move putting REVENGE in DH’s timeslot. When it all came down to it, GCB didn’t have a huge enough audience to be lined up with REVENGE. Plus, CGB would not have been a good fit in a line up of dark shows like REVENGE & ONCE UPON A TIME.

  • Matto

    Very interesting.

Game time! The game will stay on this thread until the Ultimate Winner is chosen…

    THE MIDDLE – 10
    ONCE UPON A TIME – 21
    MODERN FAMILY – 36

The theory that BoP was renewed as “spackle” makes some sense I suppose. The fact that it got a reduced order and held for mid-season supports that.

I don’t mind Revenge moving to Sunday. I think it will probably hold its ratings on that night given its lead-in. What will matter more is where they go with the show in a second season. If they can maintain the same tension and plot twists and turns as season one, it should do well.

re: Game…it’s votes of +3 and -3 (must do both), every 24 hours. Let’s get a winner this week.

Revenge could have done great after DH. Its premiere would have at least gotten 3.0+ which is good, and it would have manged mid to high 2′s in the fall, and low to mid 2′s for most of the spring. It might have even grown from DH, because the buzz was there. And it may have fallen against the award shows, but I’m sure it would have risen again. It was managing low to mid 2′s all year with a incompatible lead in, so I’m sure it would have easily gotten excellent retention from a very compatible DH. And that could have made it easier for ABC to give it the 9pm slot next fall, but oh well.

I wish if ABC knew how great this show was back in the fall, they’d given it the spot after Grey’s. I’m sure it would have managed low 3′s from a high 3 lead in from Grey’s.

    THE MIDDLE – 10
    ONCE UPON A TIME – 18 (-3)
    MODERN FAMILY – 39 (+3)

Not that I don’t like OUAT, because I do, but I don’t want to give The Middle -3 either, cause I like it more than OUAT.

  • Rebecca

    THE MIDDLE – 7 (-3)
    ONCE UPON A TIME – 21 (+3)
    MODERN FAMILY – 39

I love all three of them…only voting Middle down because it’s closest to zero.
    Quote from CT [2.7]:
Bobby: Whatever, man. It’s the most dangerous thing on my boat.
Travis: Really? I’m just gonna spin around and say the first thing I see. Loaded flare gun on a jar full of gasoline.
Bobby: Well, that’s for when the rats come.

Amazing that people think that there are not Good Christian Bitches. I loved the show. ABC you are making a mistake. With all the other BS out there you csncel the show ovet repubkicans and fake ass women who know for a fact they GCB. WTG !

  • Gambler777

What!!!! I just read in the paper today that GCB has been cancelled. I admit some things were a little goofy but it was good for a laugh. What happened, to many people not pick up the jokes? or was were Christian viewers to uptight about a little satire. Pretty soon will be no scripted shows to look forward to watching. Two others ‘Private Practice’ and ‘Raising Hope’, sound like they barely squeeked by. The shows I like are either coming to an end ‘Desperate Housewives’ and the new ones I decide to try out to replace them don’t make it. Last year I struck out as well, I watched every episode of ‘Off The Map’ and started to get familiar with who’s who and then after all that, Cancelled. Ugh!!!

  • Hustis Harper

    THE MIDDLE – 4 (-3)
    ONCE UPON A TIME – 24 (+3)
    MODERN FAMILY – 39

  • JohnnyRico

I think the renewal of BOF and Nikita would indicate many pundits on this site underestimate how huge Intl sales are. Even with its lackluster domestic ratings I would bet Nikita is the 3rd most profitable CW show after ANTM and VD because of how big a star Maggie Q was in HK action flicks.

may fav.new shows in ABC were canceled ,Missing,The River and GCB

  • JM

If you haven’t watched “Last Man Standing” and want a really nice, clean family show all of you can watch, try this wonderful show. This is about the only ABC show we watch.

  • tvfreak

    THE MIDDLE – 4
    ONCE UPON A TIME – 21 (-3)
    MODERN FAMILY – 42 (+3)

“You can’t find the leak, look at who’s sleeping next to you.”
-Dax Miller, from Missing episode 1.09 “Promises”

  • Cesar

It was very hard to swallow to find out that GCB got cancelled, I can’t remember a show that made me laugh so hard and I hope the ladies are cast together in a different show because it was a great ensemble.
As for Body of proof I’m happy that it’ll stick around one more season, Delaney is a delight and I loved her guest appearence in the Desperate Housewives finale, I like this show way better then most of the cop-forensic-detective shows.
Still can’t believe that stupid non-sense boring as hell shows like Rules of engagement and How I met your mother are still around.
