ABC's Body Of Proof turned out to be my biggest prediction miss this season. The only "certain to be canceled" predicted show that was renewed. I'm still not quite sure how it got renewed, and may never know for certain. Looks like its 13 episode order for next season will be used as a schedule filler, likely for a failed rookie drama, or a mid-season replacement.

Other than that I predicted the fate of every other ABC show correctly in the final guesses this season, most long ago.

With that the Index bids the 2011-12 ABC season adieu, there will be no more ABC Renew / Cancel posts until September. Happy summer, ABC!

The Renew / Cancel Index above includes results beginning January 2, 2012. How did ABC's shows stack up based on their Fall results? Click here.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2012
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2012
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2012
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2012
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I really hate the fact that they cancelled GCB! We loved that show! I thought it was very authentic, we all know women like this and I think it pointed out the hypocrisy in a lot of “Good Christian Women”. The show gave me quite a few laughs and I will definitely miss it. Maybe one of the cable networks will pick it up. One can only hope! I cannot believe the networks are not giving some of these shows time to build an audience. I guess I will never understand why they cancel so many entertaining shows and keep some of the drivel on the air like they do. I think that Modern Family is one of the worst shows I have ever seen and cannot understand why so many people like it. And, I am sick of hearing about the 18-49 demographic. Why do advertisers seem to think they are the only ones that count? I bet if you took a survey, the over 50″s are watching a lot more TV.

So sad to lose GCB & Missing

  • Marilyn

Missing is a great show, they cancel that and put on all these dam Reality shows..Pretty soon there won’t be anything good to watch on TV..

  • Nick

    THE MIDDLE – 1 (-3)
    ONCE UPON A TIME – 24 (+3)
    MODERN FAMILY – 42

“Once upon a time, there was a place somewhere between the Lower East Side and the fiery pits of hell, called Chatswin”
-Tessa (narrating), Suburgatory episode 1.22 “The Motherload”

  • Doogie

You know I’m so f’ing tired of watching shows that get cancelled after the first year because of the dumbing down of North America while “reality shows” get renews for 20 years.

  • Aaron

I can’t belive GCB was canceled. My family anr friends liked it very much.I still laugh at some of the scenes.so SAD.PLEASE RECONSIDER

  • Krys

    THE MIDDLE – 4 (+3)
    ONCE UPON A TIME – 24
    MODERN FAMILY – 39 (-3)

  • crewdog

well the only things I watched on ABC were missing and the river so there is no point to even have that channel. All that is left on regular TV are cookie cutter reality shows and predictable intelligence insulting shows. So disappointing.

  • Kate

@tvfreak Thanks for the explanation about the elimination game. It sounds like fun. I’d like to join in when it’s down to 2 shows!

  • Rebecca

    THE MIDDLE – 1 (-3)
    ONCE UPON A TIME – 27 (+3)
    MODERN FAMILY – 39

There, next person take The Middle out if you want. Call it a gift (and I love the show).
    Quote from CT [3.12]:
Bobby: And then President Lincoln says, “The only way to fight these aliens is to resurrect the dinosaurs.”
Andy: Well, you’re right. That WOULD be the best movie ever.

  • Mbps

    Why is missing cancelled???

  • Mbps

Cancel dancing with the stars and bachlelor/bachelorette series…boring and keep missing!

  • uno

Not happy with the canceling of gbc! That’s one of the few shows I watch on ABC…pretty soon I’m just gunna skip over that channel as well as a few other people I know…no more Sunday night tv get togethers with the girls… Sad sad sad

  • Rachael

I loved Missing! I just think they put it in the worst possible time slot. Up against American Idol and Big Bang Theory. It might have even done tremendously better if they aired as a summer series rather than during spring. Since they are canceling it, they could have let it have a happy ending and not a cliff hanger.

  • Diane

Unfortunately, I think the reason they cancel shows like Missing is because there are so many “mindless people” that are hooked on the reality garbage shows like the Kardashians, the Bachelor/Bachelorette and other sickening “reality” TV programs. Until people STOP watching the reality junk well done regular TV series will not get the chance they deserve.

  • Andrea

Very disappointed that Missing is cancelled. It was such a fast moving exciting show. Had the feel of an action packed movie.

  • Lauren

UGH I LOVED GCB! absolutely hate it was canceled. It was my desperate housewives of the south. Definitely a horrible choice to get rid of it. I hope they reconsider or another network picks it up.

  • Pam

I can’t believe ABC was moronic enough to cancel “Missing.” It is one of the two best programs on ABC, the other being “Once Upon A Time.” They would rather keep garbage shows like DWTS and Bachelorette, and Reality Shows instead. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised because ABC and all the major networks have been doing this for years and years. It looked like “Missing” had enough time to wrap up the story, but just like always, we are left hanging forever. The Networks show the “Series Finale as a “Season Finale” because they don’t have guts enough to really call it the Series Finale.

  • jaynee

You can’t cancel MISSING This show is great. The #1 new show on TV. Action packed every episode. You can’t leave us hanging. PLEASE RENEW. My whole family in all different states are glued to this.
