ABC's Body Of Proof turned out to be my biggest prediction miss this season. The only "certain to be canceled" predicted show that was renewed. I'm still not quite sure how it got renewed, and may never know for certain. Looks like its 13 episode order for next season will be used as a schedule filler, likely for a failed rookie drama, or a mid-season replacement.
Other than that I predicted the fate of every other ABC show correctly in the final guesses this season, most long ago.
With that the Index bids the 2011-12 ABC season adieu, there will be no more ABC Renew / Cancel posts until September. Happy summer, ABC!
The Renew / Cancel Index above includes results beginning January 2, 2012. How did ABC's shows stack up based on their Fall results? Click here.
*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.
Notes:
-
- certain to be cancelled by May, 2012 -
- more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2012 -
- toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2012 -
- more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2012 -
- certain to be renewed by May, 2012
The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).
(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

Loooove GCB!!!! What were they thinking? Missing is great, too!!!!
ABC CAN NOT CANCEL GCB…..I LOVE THAT SHOW. I HOPE SOMEONE ELSE PICKS IT UP.
THE MIDDLE – 1
ONCE UPON A TIME – 24 (-3)
MODERN FAMILY – 42 (+2)
“One mile to the west, Emerson Cod was also not thrilled. During times of stress or anxiety, he liked to knit. Since the arrival of the dead girl who was not dead, he found the stockinette stitch relaxing.”
-The Narrator, from Pushing Daisies episode 1.02 “Dummy”
Ashley Judd is great in action-type programs. Why would you put this show up against The Big Bang Theory and American Idol? You, ABC, will never surpass these two shows with ratings on Thursday. Put Missing in another time slot, even Saturday night, maybe. You have a class show with this one and you are frithering it away. There are all kinds of story lines to do with “Missing.” The last scene of last night’s program had Ashley Judd “missing,” so it doesn’t have to be about the son. Rethink this, afterall you promoted The Bachelorette, with “America’s sweetheart,” but trust me, it isn’t and the odds are another doomed relationship results. Keep Missing! It’s an intelligent show.
THE MIDDLE – 4 (+3)
ONCE UPON A TIME – 24
MODERN FAMILY – 39(-3)
Talk of you love hate relationship. I glad ABC showed the wisdom to cancel Missing. I did not know I was masochists until this show. Each week I was for a WTF moment, it never failed to deliver. From her being up guards with a keyboard, okay give you that one, to beating up assailant with a cellphone, a stretch I still give you that one, but head butting a steroid taking former East German weightlifter. You have asked too much.
I cannot believe that you are cancelling the show MISSING; I have not seen such a good show like that one in years, I really don’t understand it. So many stupid shows around and you decide to get rid of such a wonderful show that keeps you at the edge of your seat every week.
I LOVE THE SHOW MISSING.
LOVED Missing!! A show I like as much as I do Criminal Minds. Not even a “Judd” fan, but she did a phenomenal job in this show. Will really miss this show!!!
Really? We have to watch crap like all those reality shows that are far from entertaining. At lleast th
Least Missing and GCB are real not like Survivor DWTS and Bachelor. That are rigged!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE MIDDLE – 1 (-3)
ONCE UPON A TIME – 27 (+3)
MODERN FAMILY – 39
quote from DH [series finale - yes, I watched it after having given up the show for the past year and a half]:
Susan: Some people never get to know the folks next door. They share a fence and nothing else. We shared everything. How’d we get to be so lucky?
I just watched the missing finale, it was great!! And its been cancelled?!?!!! Ridiculous!!! To abc, NBC and cbs…please Stop Cancelling Shows!!!!! Missing had a great ending for the next season. I still miss flash forward and v!! I really liked charlies angels too. I’m so frustrated at how shows get cancelled left and right. It’s no wonder regular shows don’t do well against reality and competition shows. Lower the standards for ratings for regular shows because at this rate regular shows will never have more than one season!!!
THE MIDDLE – RIP
I had to…
ONCE UPON A TIME – 27
MODERN FAMILY – 42 (+3)
“The agency has very strict guidelines. Becca doesn’t.”
-Dax, Missing episode 1.10 “Rain on the Good and the Evil.” That episode was SO GOOD!!! It’s a shame it’s not coming back.
Oh COME ONE, this show was HOOKY as all h3ll. It was a lousy attempt to be another “24″ with a Chick as Jack Baurer, and it was just as Stupid. The CIA does NOT operate that way, the cast of the CIA ops station was god awful in both acting and their scripts. You can’t go running around Europe shooting up the place and walk away scott free! The Scripts were ABSURD and all the acting was horse chit. Ashley Judd was about as convincing as a former SUPER CIA Agent as Betty White would be! In the Flash Black scene they must have smeared a whole can of Vasciline on the camera lens in a feeble attempt to make Judd look 15 years younger ….. it DIDN’T WORK! The kid was a college drama class amateur level and the Bulgarian girl with the massive Mole on her face was as appealing as an old dog. I knew Keith Caradine was some how the Uber Bad Guy from the second episode. This show was pathetic. Good Riddance!
The chicks liked this stupid show because Judd was an “Empowered Woman”! Bwah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha …. Judd was absurd.
I CANNOT BELIEVE that MISSING was canceled. The story line, the intrigue, the scenery, the acting was all A-ONE. It is the best mystery on TV ever–just an all-round fabulous show. The Bachelor/ Bachlorette are both renewed?? Such trash! Everything is staged and it is revolting to watch!!!. CLASSLESS! UNREAL!
The 8:00PM timeslot for Missing might be to blame for low ratings–too early. PLEASE BRING BACK MISSING!!!! Kudos to the actors and writers. Soooo sad and unfair!
Sad that ABC won’t give GCB at least another year. The cast is great and the story line is funny. I loved the show and if you just gave it some time other people would get interested in watching it.
Remember Seinfeld didn’t draw a big audience when it first came out on TV.
GCB has got some very talented stars and their chemiistry can pull off just about anything. Bring on some more writers and go out a limb ABC and keep the show! I live in the south and could write you a couple of funny shows.
Seriously we need more shows that can bring us laughter.
I liked Missing and not happy that it was cancelled. The script was good as well as th actors. Maybe another network can pick it up.
Shame that GCB and Missing were cancelled. 2 shows that we loved and watch every week! ABC, pls reconsider!
I loved gcb and cant believe they took it away probably religious politcs but isnt that what TV is for to help you escape from the BS of real life I used to love abc but im sick of having a few episodes of shows I like and having them taken away as I start to enjoy them maybe I need to start watching different networks
How could anyone honestly judge the numbers of missing when it is opposite American idol at the same time? I have been a big fan is American idol for the last 10 years and always watch it, but when I saw Missing it was such a fantastic show I’ve given up watching American idol to watch the Missing season. I think it’s really unfair to judge the numbers when it’s competes against the number one show like American Idol. It didn’t have a chance from the beginning and I think that the polls are unfair to the TV show Missing!
ONCE UPON A TIME – 24 (-3)
MODERN FAMILY – 45 (+3)
“Most people, when they see a monster made of black smoke, they run!”
