I knew one of the CSI offspring would get canned, but I admitted not really being able to pick which one since the decision was likely driven by syndication economics that are hidden to us. I went with CSI:NY to be canceled, and CSI: Miami was instead. C'est la vie.
Otherwise, I picked every other CBS renewal and cancellation correctly for the season, with a push for The Good Wife predicted as a "toss up", (pending the final decision on Rules of Engagement, which I predicted would be renewed). I will edit this post and the table once the final word on RoE is known tomorrow morning.
5/21 Update: Rules of Engagement has been renewed and will return mid-season.
With that the Index bids the 2011-12 CBS season adieu, there will be no more CBS Renew / Cancel posts until September. Happy summer CBS!

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).
(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

@rob60990
what exactly is CBS waiting for with their decision on Rules of Engagement.
The negotiations with sony are pretty hark work
just like AMC/Breaking bad fiasco
I don’t watch Rules Of Engagement, but I see it being renewed tomorrow.
It sure came in handy for CBS last season.
I continue to struggle with the RoE debate. It’s a funny show — a LOT funnier than sitcoms that were an easy renew.
I just don’t understand the viewing public sometimes.
I want CSI Miami to be renewed. If not none of the CSI shows are worth watching anymore. I stopped watching 2 1/2 men. So I I’ll just start watching another channel. Like…Burn Notice,Royal Pains..ect
I can see RoE being renewed at least as schedule spackle for one more season. It figures it’s the last show I’m waiting to hear about (and it’s one I like), lol. At least we’ll know tomorrow.
@FakeMeOut
I will be sure to catch online clips of Craig Ferguson in Scotland this week! It should be good. I just can’t stay up that late or fill up the disc in my DVR with it. CBS.com usually has a lot of Ferguson clips and entire episodes.
I am so sorry the Unforgettable and the Gifted Man were cancelled. I really loved these two shows so much. What are you going to put in there place some stupid reality show. These shows dont make you think you just watch people do dumb things.
It looks to me that CBS wants to keep Rules around or they would have canceled it with the other shows. The delay is the negotiations going on between CBS and Sony. So, if CBS didn’t want the show, they wouldn’t be negotiating right now.
If it’s not renewed it’s because Sony threw in the towel because it looks like CBS has made room for it, or else they would be wasting their time.
I know the powers that be at CBS wont care but I am a CBS junkie, I spend almost all my time with that Network. The cancellation of CSI Miami and Unforgetable has me seriously wondering if I should remain loyal to them when so many fans enjoy these shows and they are being canned. They still outperform many other shows on other Networks. Very very discouraging
CSI ended up as CBS’ #1 in demo for 10 p.m., not bad. I wonder if it ended up as #1 in 10 p.m. slot across the board? (Except for 10 p.m. part of SNF.)
CSI Miami is a lot better show than CSI NY. The actors, and the stories are head and shoulders above CSI NY. I will miss CSI Miami. It’s a dirty shame. But nothing CBS hasn’t done before. They’re bad about throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Shows like the Good Wife and Blue Bloods are so boring, I fall asleep trying to watch them . That’s what should have been cancelled.

There is no doubt that CBS will be putting new scripted programming in place of Unforgettable and A Gifted Man. Honestly complaints about non-scripted (read “reality”) programming leveled at CBS are foolish. I believe they have less than ABC and NBC and possibly Fox. Really most of their in-season “reality” programming is long term (> 20 years) shows Survivor and The Amazing Race.
With those ratings, what made you predicate correctly that good wife would be renewed?
@David
“With those ratings, what made you predicate correctly that good wife would be renewed?”
I am certain the fact that with its renewal The Good Wife will reach the 88 episodes necessary for stripped syndication was the only reason it was renewed despite claims by many that its positive critical and awards buzz played a role.
@danny94
“Got knows why cbs is such a popular network it is full of dull procedual’s and crude comedies… there is absolutly no originality what so ever… boring!!”
I watch the majority of CBS’s drama programming and it is hardly boring. This week I’m watching the finale’s of: Hawaii Five-0 (which was better this season than last), NCIS/NCIS: LA, Criminal Minds (sorry SVU on NBC), and Person of Interest’s. I love their drama programming over that of NBC’s (exluding the cancelled Awake, the renewed: Grimm & Law & Order: SVU).
CBS’s comedies could use some work. But their 75% of their dramas are top notch, compared to NBC’s and FOX’s. Only show I really hate on CBS is CSI: Miami (which low and behold is cancelled).
I hope next season, CBS’s drama schedule looks something like this:
Monday 10PM: Hawaii 5-0
Tuesday 8PM/9PM: NCIS/NCIS: LA
Tuesday 10PM: New Drama
Wednesday 9PM: CSI or Criminal Minds
Wednesday 10PM: Criminal Minds or Person of Interest
Thursday 9PM: The Mentalist
Thursday 10PM: CSI or Person of Interest
Fridays 9PM: CSI: NY (it should be final season)
Fridays 10PM: Blue Bloods
Because Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday nights, I WON’T be watching NBC. I LOVE Law & Order: SVU and Grimm, but NBC assed up royally moving SVU up an hour (they should have put it on Tuesday @ 10) – if Criminal Minds is still there, I’m watching it. If CSI: NY remains in it’s slot, I’m done watching Grimm too.
It’s how it is, CBS has the better show’s now that NBC is crepping out of the “Law & Order-ER Era”. And Dick Wolf’s fire fighter pilot, Chicago Fire, looks like “Chicago Crap” if you ask me. It’s ANOTHER non-Law & Order show he’s producing that will likely flip. Only NEW NBC show that is appealing to me is Revolution and Do No Harm (which seems like the medical version of Awake).
@Rebecca “… Craig Ferguson in Scotland this week! It should be good …”
You usually can’t go wrong with Craig & Geoff … top shelf comedy!
Oh Shizoodle! I just realized Rules is there lowest rated sitcom
Even lower than Rob!:(
One of my favorite shows is the Rules of Engagement, I hope they bring it back for another year.
@Bill: How would you like me to cook the egg on my face from UF’s untimely cancellation?
Game time! It may just take one more vote to decide the Ultimate Winner…
PERSON OF INTEREST – 19
THE BIG BANG THEORY – 1
Game: +1 and -1 to vote on Ultimate Winner (must do both, only vote every 24 hours). Might be me who eliminates TBBT in less than 2 hours, lol.
Dang, no more Horatio Caine, except on cable re-runs and Jay Mohr’s comedy skits.
