Our Renew / Cancel Index predicts potential renewal or cancellation for scripted broadcast primetime shows by the end of the 2011-12 season in May, 2012. (includes results from January 2- May 13, 2012):

After having them as "toss ups" for renewal or cancellation for most of the year, I predicted cancellation for both Nikita and Hart Of Dixie, and blew both those calls. After being moved to a "toss up" late in the season, I predicted that The Secret Circle would be renewed, and blew that call too. Props to Robert who called both Hart Of Dixie and The Secret Circle correctly, and missed only Nikita.
My guess is that the late season swoon by The Secret Circle killed it, and I have so little experience with shows that have ratings dives late, I was unable to take it fully into account.
5/18 Update: As expected, The L.A. Complex was nowhere to be found on the CW 2012-13 schedule. It will never air during the US broadcast season again. It will live on in Canada, and wouldn't stun me if it aired during the summer in the US, but we will have to wait and see.
While I did get all the other CW show final predictions correct, there are so few of them that's like saying I lost my thumb and index finger, but the rest of my hand was fine. As a network, the CW proved to be collectively my worst predicted this season by a wide margin. Ouch!
With that the Index bids the 2011-12 CW season adieu, there will be no more CW Renew / Cancel posts until September. Happy summer CW!

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).
(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

This is bull, the secret circle had higher ratings than those other shows they let slipped by and it was getting to a really good back… the other blackwell siblings. I want to know!!!! Just one more season… It’s hard to believe vampire diaries is made by the same arthur and both shows went completely away from the books and TSC gets cancelled.

I AM EXTREMELY DISSAPOINTED. my 2 favs secret circle and ringer axed! The CW is producing great shows and cancelling them every time, ie. Life unexpected. Please stop. Try a different time slot anything to bring these shows back. This was a real shocker.

90210 needs a new show runners so BAD! This season writers have been terrible. Why bring new new writers for Gossip girl when the show is over and not 90210?

IT is a shame The Secret Circle got cancelled. Yet it had better ratings than all the CW shows save for three (The Vampire Diaries, One Tree Hill, and Supernatural). Unbelieveable! Cancelling The Secret Circle and saving overrated Nikita and sluggish Hart Of Dixie. Those new shows better pay off for The CW for it looks like the network is going the way UPN did. Over the cliff.

I am so glad they kept the HOD, VPD, and Nikita!!! Nikta is so intense. I am sad that the Ringer is canceled, but that’s its own fault, the ratings sucked. I think it was just getting good, but most people in our country probably really didn’t about it. The advertising could of been better. No offense TSC fans but really??? It is just a copy of VPD. Supernatural I hear is good but I am not really interested, I am not surprised its renewed! I miss Hellcats though, that too like Ringer was just getting good!
How stupid. They need to renew Secret Circle now!
I am happy with all the cancellations except for the secret circle I love that show they should really reconsider give the show another shot in season 2 I know it will get better

The CW cancelled shows like tSC because it costs too much to make. HoD and Nikita and all those shows that had a lower renew/cancel index got renewed because they are not as expensive to make. My cousin was the art director on tSC, and it was supposed to be renewed, it got great ratings in the end, and it was a great show, it was stupid that they decided not to renew it. And now the feedback page for tSC on cwtv.com because they have got so much negative feedback about cancelling it.
Nikita rocks! Soooo happy it’s been renewed! Good plot lines! Great actors & action scenes! Percy & Amanda are gr8 foils to Nikita!
