The crazy fans will note that I "pushed" on a prediction for Fringe this season with it as a "toss up" for renewal or cancellation all season. As I noted elsewhere, no guts, no glory, but apparently all the whining from fans!

Otherwise, I predicted all the Fox renewals and cancellations correctly this season, most far in advance.

With that the Index bids the 2011-12 Fox season adieu, there will be no more Fox Renew / Cancel posts until September. Happy summer Fox!

Notes:

  • :oops: - certain to be cancelled by May, 2012
  • :cry: :cry:- more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2012
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2012
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2012
  • :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    RAISING HOPE – 28 (+3)
    TOUCH – 4 (-3)

    quote from Glee [3.21]:
    Lindsay Lohan (Nationals judge): What? This thing isn’t even televised? I am in full imagery rending mode, people. I show up here and there’s not even a red button to push? And a chair that can spin me around? Or I can then point at a kid on stage and yell, “I want to work with you!”? Really? I’m seriously firing my manager.
    Perez Hilton (another judge): Can I use that as an exclusive?
    Lohan: Absolutely not.

    Just let it die, shape-shifters…

    @Tony: Not yet, I’m afraid. You just gave me a spoiler! :(

    Haha, just kidding. It’s not really a spoiler, because Fringe has been around long enough without me watching it that I already know a few things about it. Like, the parallel universes, and the blue vs. red color coding. I didn’t realize it was the parallel universe Fringe Division logo – but then, I should’ve seen it coming, since it’s red and all.

    But I’ve been anticipating getting to see Fringe so much that I set my desktop up to display a random slideshow of Fringe images, including my new avatar. The anticipation has become murderous lately; I’ve been waiting almost three weeks and yet every single copy of S1 has remained checked-out (three weeks is the loan period at my library, and they don’t allow renewals if people are in line waiting for it like I am. It’s just not right. :( )

    @tvfreak
    If you still get discs from Netflix, Fringe is there. I’ve got disc one of season one at #19 in my queue. Too bad it’s not streaming. Right now I stream and get 2 discs at a time. Unrelated, 30R streams on Netflix.

  • tvfreak

    @Rebecca: Not to be rude, but I don’t know how many times I’ve said this, but I don’t have Netflix. I’m forced to rely on my local library, which, while carrying lots of good shows, nevertheless doesn’t carry them all – or enough copies of those that it does carry, apparently. Luckily, at my last check one copy of Fringe S1 has been returned and is now on its way to me, so hopefully by Saturday I should be able to begin enjoying it.

    @Tony: By any chance does Fox intend to run Fringe reruns over the summer like CW is doing with Supernatural? It would sure beat waiting for the S4 DVD…

  • UncleRob

    Canceling “Finder” was a mistake.

    It had great characters and humor and good stories.

    Given half a chance, and a good timeslot, it could have been huge.

  • Josh

    Wow! What is Fox smoking? Cleveland Show and Anerican Dad are terrible. Family Guy hasn’t been funny all season. I really enjoyed The Finder and Napolean Dynamite. Both were very funny. Alcatraz I just couldn’t get into. I liked Lost but Alcatraz was a real stretch. The reason Fox is pushing Touch in my opinion is because Keifer and autism. The reason Cleveland and American Dad hang around is because of Family Guy.

  • Josh

    @unclerob I totally agree. First episode I didn’t enjoy but the characters developed nicely with great storylines. Fox should have kept it.

    RAISING HOPE – 34 (+3)
    TOUCH – R.I.P.

    Are you ready to rumble?

  • tvfreak

    @Hustis Harper: Indeed! :D

    Next voter, the Fox Winners’ Circle has begun! Reset Fringe (which has been in the Victors’ Village) and Raising Hope to 10 points each, and votes will now be done +1 and -1 only. May the best show win!

  • Judy Rose

    I really liked Alcatrez alot!!!! I really miss it!!!! Maybe you could pick up Men of a Certain Age that was canceled by TBS. great show!!! Thanks for keeping Touch, although it was put in a bad time slot!!!

  • Rebecca

    @tvfreak
    Sorry, I don’t think I’ve ever seen you say that you don’t have Netflix. Won’t bring it up again then (but if you had it, things would be easier to get on disc or streaming).

  • tvfreak

    The Winners’ Circle!

    FRINGE – 9 (-1) (Once I get the Fringe DVD’s, I’ll probably start voting it up, but until then…)
    RAISING HOPE – 11 (+1)

    “[as Stegosaurus]: Yes…yes. This is a fertile land, and we will thrive. We will rule over all this land, and we will call it…This Land. [as Allosaurus]: I think we should call it…your grave! [as Stegosaurus]: Ah! Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal! [as Allosaurus]: Ha ha ha! Mine is an evil laugh! Now DIE! [as Stegosaurus]: Oh no, God, oh dear God in heaven…”
    -Wash, from “Firefly” episode 1.01 “Serenity, Part 1″

  • Tony

    FRINGE – 10 (+1)
    RAISING HOPE – 10 (-1)

    @TvFreak I’m not sure if Fox does reruns of Fringe tbh….
    But, like Rebecca, I was hoping Fringe would show up on Netflix, but it doesn’t.. and I was hoping on having a season 1-3 rereun this summer…
    So I ended up splashing out on the blurays when I seen them going cheap!

  • Rebecca

    @Tony
    Just discs of Fringe on Netflix, no streaming, yep. Not as convenient. A lot of what I watch is disc only, unfortunately, which is why I haven’t switched to an instant/streaming only plan yet.

  • Tony

    @Rebecca I live in the uk aswell, so we don’t have the option of discs :(
    Actually the whole Netflix selection we have is VERY poor in comparison to the US.

  • Dennis

    FRINGE – 11 (+1)
    RAISING HOPE – 9 (-1)

  • Herb

    I love how everyone here think The Cleveland Show is going to get cancelled. Last year you guys said the samething about American Dad. Give it up, you’re never right.

  • Liz

    FRINGE – 12 (+1)
    RAISING HOPE – 8 (-1)

    @Herb who cares about a cartoon of all things??

  • Rebecca

    @Tony
    I heard that Netflix just started in the UK somewhat recently (I have a fellow Disney fan friend there whose son is hooked on it, and incidentally her whole family has been watching Alcatraz and Fringe via DVR), so perhaps the selection will expand soon. I wasn’t aware they couldn’t get discs there; that’s too bad. There was some other disc mail rental service there in Europe but I can’t remember now what it is/was called. Wait, I looked it up: lovefilm.
