The crazy fans will note that I "pushed" on a prediction for Fringe this season with it as a "toss up" for renewal or cancellation all season. As I noted elsewhere, no guts, no glory, but apparently all the whining from fans!

Otherwise, I predicted all the Fox renewals and cancellations correctly this season, most far in advance.

With that the Index bids the 2011-12 Fox season adieu, there will be no more Fox Renew / Cancel posts until September. Happy summer Fox!

The Renew / Cancel Index above includes results beginning January 2, 2012. How did FOX's shows stack up based on their Fall results? Click here.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2012
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2012
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2012
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2012
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

@SpenB: Yeah, except for me it helps to think of the two episodes I’ve seen so far as comparable to the first episodes of Alcatraz – which I really enjoyed. I’m going to be taking a whirlwind tour of S1-S3 for the next few weeks – gotta wait till S4 comes out on DVD, and then to enjoy the final season with all the other fans…Fall 2012 is going to be epic. :D

why why why? cancel the finder it was actually one of the good ones . more people just needed to give it a chance it needs a renew asap . on top they left it with a big cliff hanger . thats a no no

  • MAC

I can’t believe people are still watching those stupid cartoons!

  • Rich

Keep “The finder”. This was a great show.

  • Wendy

Finder and Terra Nova 2 of the best new shows to be put out in a good while, terrible to see them cancelled after only one year. Who is actually making these decisions? Surely not someone who actually watches tv. Too bad really.

  • Brett

Unless Fox picks up a lot of new good shows I won’t be watching them much next season with the bastards canceling Terra Nova, Alcatraz and House finishing there won’t be much left to watch.

  • Shahhida

Touch has been renewed!!! Yes! It’s moved to fridays?

  • S. Neal

I am shocked that Alcatraz was cancelled. It was by far the most original show this season. Wonderful cast. New shows are not given long enough to attract a following.

  • Lowell

    The Finder,

you found a winning show, and now you are letting it go. you need to reconcider. The Finder was a show that hit many target groups . re think re consider, because you lost it.

  • Patricia

I’m not happy that Finder is being cancelled love that show.

  • Ed

With Alcatraz and Terra Nova and House gone , so am I. One less network to watch next year.

  • SpenB

I think it’s becoming more and more clear that canceling Terra Nova was a bad decision. But that decision may have led to Fringe’s renewal, in which case I would be OK with it.

  • tvfreak

@SpenB: The Dreamscape is the ninth episode, right? Yeah, I’m going to start there tomorrow. Must prepare for the awesomeness!

Although the first 8 episodes were great for me too. Bet they’ll pale in comparison.

  • javax3000

I’m trying to find out why the good shows are always cancel and the garbage keep on thriving.

  • Dawn

I’ll miss The Finder although I really didn’t think it would make a second season.
Alcatraz however, I can’t believe they’re not doing another season. I LOVED that show. I was really looking for a second season to find out what happened. If you haven’t watched any of the episodes…even with the show being cancelled…I reccomend checking it out.

  • phillip

I think the finder was a great show and should be renewed and moved to a different station. Fox is only great because of their animated series.

  • SpenB

@tvfreak Cool. More than anything, The Dreamscape marks the start of the show’s shift to being more serialized.

  • David

Maybe I’m the only one but I’m pissed that Alcatraz was cancelled. We loved that show. Fox really makes me mad. They keep these ignorant cartoons on and cancel good scripted shows.

  • Donna

It seems like the finder wasnt given a fair chance but oh well better to pull the plug now before fans get too hooked and get mad at least bones is coming back!!

  • Norm

When will we know, for SURE (NOT guessing), when Fringe is going to be either renewed, or cancelled?

For the record, I love the characters, even if the plots are, sometimes, “lame”.

By the way, am I the only one, outside of Jushua Jackson, who is looking forward to the possibly upcoming episode, about Astrid farnsworth’s past?
