The crazy fans will note that I "pushed" on a prediction for Fringe this season with it as a "toss up" for renewal or cancellation all season. As I noted elsewhere, no guts, no glory, but apparently all the whining from fans!

Otherwise, I predicted all the Fox renewals and cancellations correctly this season, most far in advance.

With that the Index bids the 2011-12 Fox season adieu, there will be no more Fox Renew / Cancel posts until September. Happy summer Fox!

The Renew / Cancel Index above includes results beginning January 2, 2012. How did FOX's shows stack up based on their Fall results? Click here.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2012
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2012
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2012
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2012
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

Now that @FOXBroadcasting has ended House they should pair @BONESonFOX with @TheFinderonFOX & #SaveTheFinder from cancellation! Sign the Petition, closing in on 11,000 signatures and send a map. Head over to Save The Finder.org and find out how you can let FOX know they are making a grave mistake!

Two of the best shows last season are cancelled. Alcatraz and The Finder are two of my favorite shows and personally I gave FOX another chance to redeem itself and again Nother let down :~( it really stinks. Wake up and give a show or shows at least a 2 season run. Ridiculous.

Why is ‘Finder’ & ‘Alcatraz’ canceled? Those were both great shows. Also, I wish this wasn’t the final season for House. That was my favorite show, and i’m only 16.

  • Will

I really liked Napoleon Dynamite and am sad to see it go. The thing is, the Cleveland show sucks. I love Family Guy and American dad and the early episodes of the Cleveland show where Cleveland was still Cleveland and not some generic wacky dad obsessed with pop culture. I’m really glad to see Bob’s Burgers renewed! It’s awesome

You guys who are shocked that Fringe got renewed, are you sci-fi fans at all? I get that you’d think the show was rubbish if you’re not into sci-fi, but for a lot of people who are, Fringe is pretty spectacular. And not only that, it’s one of very few sci-fi shows currently on the air. My bet is they’re keeping fringe on because of A: Sci-fi fans buy DVD boxes like CRAZY, and B: They want to at least try to hold on to the demographic. It’s not like sci-fi fans would watch whatever they replace fringe with, let’s say, a drama show about a girl who moves to an unfamiliar place, or the struggles of some teens.. Or a show that pretends to be Sci-Fi but which in reality is the most horribly written family drama EVER on television. I’m talking Tera Nova, if it wasn’t obvious.

I wasn’t surprised that Alcatraz got canned.. I liked it, but I kinda knew it would get the boot. FOX has a bad trend of making sci-fi shows that aren’t really sci-fi enough for nerds, and not accessible to people who want everything to be tv-show-style-realistic. It’s just a middleground that very few are satisfied with. Fringe just went straight for crazytown right off the bat, and that’s what’s kept it alive, imho.

    @Norm

It’s officially renewed for a final 13 episodes. And the Astrid-centric episode (Making Angels) aired on February 3 in the U.S.

I hate that The Finder got cancelled. A show I could actually watch with my kids and not cringe. I would love to see it get picked up by another network, or cable channel.

    I signed the petition.

  • Trina

Just began watching The Finder and my daughter and I love it. Hate to see it go. Hopefully it will be picked up by TBS.

  • MKC

I can’t believe FOX cancelled The Finder or Touch & left on the crappy animated series!!! American Dad, Bob’s Burgers, The Simpsons, Napoleon Dynamite & Family Guy?? Really!!?? Does anybody watch this stuff over the age of twelve??? Finally two entertaining & intelligent programs on the FOX netork & they’re both cancelled!! That leaves absolutely no reason for anyone I know to ever turn on the FOX network at all!! Ridiculous TV for pre-teens!!

  • Sherry

I think it’s a shame that The Finder was canceled. This show is so funny, interesting and keep me interested every minute…I say to rethink the cancellation of “The Finder” ANYONE Else think the same!! Let’s get it back on the schedule!!

  • Kafeenfreek

So sad to see The Finder cancelled. I would have much rather have Glee disappear…

  • Just0r

No way man, The Finder was great. It was a light hearted, Psych-esq comedy adventure show. Why the hell would they cancel it. It was going to be their new House type show. UGGH. Fox is the F-n worst. Get Rid of Family guy.

  • Jenni

Too bad about the Finder, I really like it. And Terra nova?? Noooooo

  • Troy Harness

I loved Terra Nova if it is truely cancelled it is a shame. But, what really makes me mad is the lack of respect and consideration that is given to the millions of us that like a show that is eventually cancelled..instead of just dropping it like a hot potato, they should put out a few more shows and call it a series finally to wrap up lose ends and answer questions that have been brought up during the show. What was the ship head all about, what happened to the son…etc.

  • Aris

The first few episodes of Alcatraz & Tera Nova were good. Character & story building ‘n stuff. But both shows got boring very quickly because they kept dragging the story.

Alcatraz was slow paced and same story line every week. Tera Nova was supposed to be about heavy machinery, big guns, time/space travel and dinosaurs but it just got too cute with children, teenage lovers and family values and the cheesy music. Ahh that stupid Yanni music always killed me. Won’t miss either one.

Fringe on the other hand is actually a really good show but it’s unfortunate that geeky sci-fi shows (in general) always struggle to survive after a few seasons. A 1 hour show on Fox on Friday night … err. Poor Fringe is doomed. I’d like to see it continue on sci-fi channel or maybe even science channel.

    my 2 cents

  • Kafeenfreek

Im really going to miss The Finder. Another show that FOX pulled out from under me. I’m going to start waiting at least 2 years before getting into another show. I hope that the cast members get better opportunities because of this, they truly deserve it.

  • joao

The finder shouldn’t have been removed…. it´s a great show and there are interesting stories that will be left unfinished like the marriage of willa and timon

  • Rea

Just love Fringe, Touch, Tera Nova. Want all three of these shows to return in the fall .

  • Ava

I rather “Touch” be renewed & changed to a different night of the week to show, then canceled. Hey, they moved “Fringe” to Friday nights this past season & it survived. True fans follow their favorite shows. I love both shows! Too bad it will be “Fringe’s” last season, but at least they were given one to wrap up the series, hopefully in a really great way.

What a shame FOX will cancel The Finder! For those of us who hate reality tv and find networks overloaded with it, The Finder was such a breath of fresh air. USA says characters are welcome. Wish they would pick it up. The Finder doesn’t deserve to die!!!
