TV Ratings Monday: 'How I Met Your Mother', 'Hawaii Five-O', 'Mike & Molly' Up, 'America's Got Talent' Premieres Down, 'The Bachelorette' Down From Last Year's Debut

CBS was the top rated network in adults 18-49 while ABC was number one  in total viewers.

On CBS, the hour long How I Met Your Mother  season finale earned a 3.6 adults 18-49 rating up from a 3.3 for its most recent original episode on May 1. For comparison, last week the hour long finale of 2 Broke Girls got a 3.3 adults 18-49 rating. Two and a Half Men's season finale  garnered a 3.8 adults 18-49 rating even with last week. The Mike and Molly season finale scored a 3.3 among adults 18-49, up from a 3.1 last week.  The Hawaii Five-O finale earned a 2.7 among adults 18-49 up substantially from last week's 2.3.

On NBC, the season premiere of America's Got Talent earned a 3.6 adults 18-49 rating, compared to a 3.8 in the time period for the finale of The Voice last week and a 4.3 for last year's season premiere on June 2, 2011. The season finale of Smash scored a 1.8 among adults 18-49, matching its performance for the prior two weeks.

On ABC, a 90 minute Dancing with the Stars scored a 2.6 adults 18-49 rating compared to a 2.7 for last week's two hour episode. The 90 minute season premiere of The Bachelorette  earned a 2.5 rating among adults 18-49 down from a 2.8 for last year's season premiere.

On FOX, the season finale of Bones garnered a 1.9 adults 18-49 rating, even with last week. House got a 2.2 among adults 18-49 up from last week's 2.1.

On the CW, the season finale of Gossip Girl earned a 0.6 adults 18-49 rating up from last week's 0.4. The season finale of Hart Of Dixie scored a 0.6 adults 18-49 rating even with last week.

  • In Nielsen's 56 metered markets, household results were: "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," 2.8/7; CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman," 2.6/7; and ABC's combo of "Nightline," 3.2/8; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 1.5/5 with an encore.
  • In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” 1.0/5; "Late Show," 0.7/3; "Nightline," 1.0/4; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.7/4 with an encore.
  • At 12:35 a.m., "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" (1.4/5 in metered-market households) beat CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (1.3/5). In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.5/3 in 18-49 with an encore) topped "Late Late Show" (0.4/3).
  • At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.9/4 in metered-market households and a 0.4/3 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.

Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.
Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    “Why should I let it go? the thousands upon thousands of fans who are signing the petitions to bring it back aren’t either.”

    I would never suggest you “let it go” but you can’t be suggesting on-line petitions signed by a microscopic portion of those who watched TSC will result in the CW changing its mind about the cancellation of TSC. These days almost every show cancelled on the networks has an online petition to uncancel it. None of them has been successful and it certainly won’t be successful this time.

    Some of these sites have even collected money from misguided fans in futile efforts to uncancel a show. Ledgend of the Seeker comes to mind as one example.

    HOD didnt have great promotion or a great lead in but TSC did and couldnt hold a 0.6 each week. THATS WHY ITS CANCELLED.

    I’m a religious GG viewer and I was quite satisfied with the finale. I would assume that the only people who weren’t are viewers who haven’t followed the show since the beginning and are “Dair” fans.

    As much as I love GG, all good things must come to an end; super excited for the final season! :)

    AGT probably did worse this year since they premiered it earlier than they did in the past. Normally it premieres like a week or 2 after season finales when basically every show is in repeats. Considering that it was battling against SF galore… I’d say it did quite well.

    Just doing some speculation now: Perhaps this was a little test NBC did to see if AGT does well because America ACTUALLY likes it… or if it does well because America hates repeats. But even if it was a test, I really don’t see NBC moving it to the fall nor the spring when FOX already owns both seasons with the X-Factor and American Idol, respectively in this genre of television. Who knows though x)
