'Chuck' Fans Launch Movie Effort That Isn't Complete Nonsense Like Other "Save Our Show" Efforts

Ah, 'Tis the Season for futile fan "Save Our Show" efforts. Let's review all the kinds of efforts that have absolutely no chance whatsoever to have any effect:

Online petitions? Meaningless!

Twitter campaigns? Useless!

Facebook pages? Futile!

Sending various flotsam to networks? Messy and worthless!

However, Chuck fans, in their drive to get a feature film made have a campaign going that while highly unlikely to be successful, isn't by definition completely useless like all the kinds of efforts above.

They're pledging money to fund a potential movie in a sort of Kickstarter-style effort.

Will they raise enough money? Probably not.

But here's the difference between their effort and all the other kinds of "Save Our Show" efforts you usually hear about. Were they to raise enough money, something might happen.

On the other hand, no number of petition signatures, Tweets, Facebook likes, or packages filled with mailed in junk will have any effect whatsoever!

That's "Save Our Show" innovation baby!

Thanks to alert reader Shelby for the tip.

Save Breakout Kings. A&E just canceled it.

  • Julia

Were they to raise enough money, something might happen.

Stress on might. Wasn’t there a show where the fans raised a large amount of money to continue the show and they were still unable to get anything made?

  • Tim

I’d go see it… Remember Serenity?

  • Kat

Hey it could happen. Its definitely an uphill battle but I like the creativity who is to say they can’t get it done…and I sure am glad to see someone smart enough to realize petitions really arn’t effective at all. Money talks if they start piling up enough….who knows what might happen. Should be interesting to see how much pub this gets thanks for the heads up Bill!

Wasn’t Jericho saved from cancellation from fan petitions or whatever it was for a season two (and then it got canceled and revived back from Netflix) ???

  • iknowgoodshows

sounds like a bunch of losers like the firefly/veronica mars fans…let it go

“Wasn’t Jericho saved from cancellation from fan petitions or whatever it was for a season two (and then it got canceled and revived back from Netflix) ???”

The only show that can reasonably claim to have been saved by such fan nonsense. It returned for another season and immediately cratered in the ratings. Networks learned a lesson from that very quickly.

  • Jack

    Slow news day?

  • Chris Brannigan

Has the save our show mail in thingy ever worked for anything other than Jericho? Look what a waste that abortion of a second season was! In hindsight I’d have rather stayed pissed off that it got cancelled!

I loved chuck but I don’t see it as a movie project unless they reboot it and they can’t reboot it with the same cast so I’d rather they left it alone.

Serenity was fantastic and i am still angry Firefly only got one season1

  • Craig

Thank you!! I tried to explain this idea to my fellow Community fans back when the show was on hiatus but the idea didn’t seem to catch on. Money talks, petitions are useless.

    “Slow news day?”

No day is so slow that I wouldn’t want to poke people engaged in futile Save Our Show efforts, I just needed something a bit different with which to do it.

  • TVDude

Who know’s, if three million people pitched in $5… now you have me thinking haha. Of course, 3 million people won’t do that. Still, an interesting idea.

  • RyanCanada

love this idea, it deserves a movie.

  • Marc

Julia, you are thinking of the Save our Seeker campaign. We are still going strong. We have raised over $50,000 with our various efforts. We are still writing letters and other forms of communication to The Powers That Be. Right now we are going to break the Guiness Book of World Records for Most Posts on a Facebook entry. We only have 139000 roughly left to go. Hope has a warrior. Never give up on your shows.

  • Jack

TVDude if 3 million pitched $5 they would still be short. It costs a lot of money to make an action movie. Even on the cheap it would cost the studio $15 million just to promote it.

  • KayLhota

Hey, I’d love to see a “Chuck” reunion movie, and you never know, stranger things have happened. But, raising a few million dollars to seed fund a feature film? That’s a new one! Meanwhile, I’m still waiting for the “Quantum Leap” reunion TV movie that should have happened in 1994, but didn’t!

  • Conor

Jack, maybe, but I’d say it has more to do with how well Chuck news got traffic on this site, and I think I remember Bill and Robert saying so. I think anytime a news maker for their site has interesting news, they will post it. And this will probably get about 4 or 5 pages of comments as well.
