The current 2011-12 season officially ends after next Wednesday night's programming, so we'll wind down this season with a night by night look at next Fall.  First up Thursday (since it's Thursday today).  Check back tomorrow for Friday, Saturday on Saturday, etc.

Unlike Fall 2011, when The X Factor results show crashed into Thursday among a total of seven new shows, Fall 2012 scheduling changes seem minor, with the most noteworthy change being Two and a Half Men moving to 8:30.

At least early on I expect most interest will be for:

  • How does Two and a Half Men do at 8:30? Can it help put CBS on top the adults 18-49 ratings for the entire night?
  • How will the addition of Britney Spears and Demi Lovato change the ratings for The X Factor?
  • Will Last Resort be the next Lost? Or the next Missing / FlashForward?
  • Will Beauty And The Beast do better than The Secret Circle?
  • How will the other relocated veteran Glee do?
  • How low can NBC Go On "The Night Formerly Known As Must See TV?"

For a trip down memory lane, check out 2011-12's Thursday Fall schedule:

Typo on the table for Vampire Diaires

I wish Last Resort all the best :D

  • Brittney

I’ll check aI’ll check out Last Resort. If it’s awful, I’ll watch The X-Factor, and I always planned on watching Parks & Rec so that won’t be changing.

  • Dennis

NBC will go VERY low.I think CBS is smart to move 2,5 men, this means a much bigger lead in to POI… Im really interested if Glee can hold up on thursday…

  • Richard Steven Hack

Vampire Diaries and PoI – one less show this year than last. Last year I watched Charlie’s Angels as well but it disappeared early. So net loss of two shows on that night, actually – unless Last Resort proves watchable, which is questionable (although I like some of the cast, so I will watch at least initially.)

I suspect Last Resort will be this year’s Charlie’s – a show that “dies very badly” early. The premise is ridiculous.

  • PJM

Nah, Last Resort won’t be the next FlashForward. BECAUSE IT’S NOT LOADED, OK????? :-D

  • Vince

And don’t forget the impact of the NFL expanding their Thursday Night Football package to run from September to December.

  • Jenny

looks like NBC gave up Thursdays, all the shows will have falling ratings and be canceled

  • Common Anomaly

Scandal is neither relocated or a veteran (a 7 episode veteran?).

  • Mark Wilkins

ok so I’m gonna check out the Last Resort pilot to see how it is. And unless it’s really good, I’m not missing TBBT and finally Person of Interest. Only two or three watchable shows on Thursday this fall.

    What is NBC thinking ?

They are going to be destroyed on Thusday nights.

looks like NBC gave up Thursdays, all the shows will have falling ratings and be canceled

The Cancelation Bear on tvbythenumbers will be well fed by NBC

    1) How does Two and a Half Men do at 8:30? Can it help put CBS on top the adults 18-49 ratings for the entire night?
Of course! And this is really a bad bad news for Last Resort, that have to face a super CBS thursday, X-Factor and Vampire Diaries in the same slot… Brr…

    2) How will the addition of Britney Spears and Demi Lovato change the ratings for The X Factor?
I don’t know honestly, but I don’t think so much… (in any case, who cares, I hate reality :))

    3) Will Last Resort be the next Lost? Or the next Missing / FlashForward?
Like I already said, I think Last Resort have more chance to fail that to be a success in this time slot.

    4) Will Beauty And The Beast do better than The Secret Circle?
Uhm… In theory yes, at least at the beginning…

    5) How low can NBC go on “The Night Formerly Known As Must See TV?”
NBC this year have several new interesting shows and I hope the peacock will have better ratings next fall. But, thursday will be definitely a nightmare day…

I think that X-Factor might still win over 2.5 Men but I think its a smart move by CBS and its mainly to support POI (they must love that show some), which has struggled a lot compared to other nine pm shows this season.

I think Greys will still beat POI, though maybe by a smaller margin than most weeks this year. Glee will suffer the most in that slot.

Elementary will be a hit just because it has THE cushiest slot in tv history. It has zero effective competition, so even if it is dire it will be a hit.

“Scandal is neither relocated or a veteran (a 7 episode veteran?).”

    Fix #2.

  • Petar

With Two and a Half Men lead-in and post super bowl slot(probably) PoI will kill them all and turn out next CBS beast! Next season Greys wii be under 10 millions viewers. From season 3 its droping every single year.

BRITNEY ON X-FACTOR is going to bring down so many shows ! Mark My Words !

  • Jeff (Canada)

Last fall on Thursdays I only watched Big Bang Theory and the (good) NBC comedies (Community/Parks/Office). This year it looks like it’ll be Big Bang, Last Resort, and the NBC comedies from 8:30 onward (Up All Night/Office/Parks).

  • Matt

BBT and POI all the way!. CBS will win the night

    What I hope for:

-Last Resort to finally break ABC’s Thursdays at 8 death slot curse, because it looks awesome. It’s shaping up to be one of my new fave shows.
-30 Rock to go out with a bang in its final season (by NBC standards, of course. Which means low 2’s or so.)
-Person of Interest to trounce the dueling female-skewing dramas it has to go up against. And The Office and P&R, of course.
-Elementary to become a smash hit growing out of PoI’s lead-in, which would effectively make up for CBS’s horrible decision to first cancel Unforgettable and then sentence The Mentalist to Sundays at 10.
