The current 2011-12 season officially ends after next Wednesday night's programming, so we'll wind down this season with a night by night look at next Fall.  First up Thursday (since it's Thursday today).  Check back tomorrow for Friday, Saturday on Saturday, etc.

Unlike Fall 2011, when The X Factor results show crashed into Thursday among a total of seven new shows, Fall 2012 scheduling changes seem minor, with the most noteworthy change being Two and a Half Men moving to 8:30.

At least early on I expect most interest will be for:

  • How does Two and a Half Men do at 8:30? Can it help put CBS on top the adults 18-49 ratings for the entire night?
  • How will the addition of Britney Spears and Demi Lovato change the ratings for The X Factor?
  • Will Last Resort be the next Lost? Or the next Missing / FlashForward?
  • Will Beauty And The Beast do better than The Secret Circle?
  • How will the other relocated veteran Glee do?
  • How low can NBC Go On "The Night Formerly Known As Must See TV?"

For a trip down memory lane, check out 2011-12's Thursday Fall schedule:

  • Mark

    I will be watching:

    Last Resort
    Grey’s Anatomy
    Scandal
    30 Rock
    Up All Night
    Parks and Recreation
    Person of Interest
    Elementary
    The Vampire Diaries
    Beauty and the Beast

    @Liz

I told lot many times that, Supernatural is the only show I care about, how ever bad it gets or and this is the only website I post. So, yes, my posts regarding Supernatural might look very extreme. If you go message boards and you find a lot more people even more hooked up with Supernatural than me.

I believe the meaning of “Chill” is “don’t get upset/angry”. I used it there in that sense.

  • Hades

If I lived in the US I would probably watch Last Resort, Glee and Elementry on Thursday nights.

    But I dont so whatever.

I think CW will do OK, Beauty I predict will be a semi decent hit, better than both TSC and Nikita were in the time slot.

    NBC-DOA

    CBS-Wins the night, 1st at 8, 8.30, 2nd at 9pm and 1st at 10pm

    FOX-will be a competitor

ABC-Last Resort most will most likely be DOA, Greys will still be winning 9pm, Scandal is only supposed to be 13 episodes I believe which will probably do about the same as it has this season.

  • Guy

Might as well call Last Resort now. Time of Death…October 2012.

  • Mi

    Watching for sure:
    TVD
    POI

    Plan to check out:
Last Resort (hoping it does well)
    B&tB

I thought about checking Elementary for Jonny Lee Miller, but he aged so badly I think I’ll pass.

  • HB

    My Thursdays

    The Big Bang Theory
    Person of Interest

    @Steve
“What a lousy break for “Last Resort” to be scheduled in such a tough time slot.”

Last Resort is an expensive show and doesn’t really appeal to ABC’s regular demo. I think ABC gave it this timeslot because it has more chances to be cancelled than renewed anyway but if it does well, it’ll help them in a dead timeslot, so they really got nothing to lose from this move..

  • Ryan Schwartz

BBT and 2.5 Men for me. Not going to waste my time getting hooked on Last Resort unless it’s renewed or I hear that whatever finale it winds up getting has somewhat of a proper conclusion. A show like this would have done better on cable.

  • Bob

X-Factor, Gray’s and Scandal will be my viewing on Thursday Night.

  • Nate

I feel badly for Brian Williams; he’s a great guy and deserves better than what he is going to get. Rock Center ratings will be crushed. Look for plenty of replacement “specials” during Sweeps.

  • oneeye

going to check out beauty and the beast

  • Brandy

VD and check out Beauty &Beast

  • Brandy

VD & check out Beauty &Beast

  • Only you can be you only I can be me!, You always wanna be what your not cant you be happy with what you got? Your perfect the way you are

    I will be watching
    THE BIG BANG THEORY
    TWO AND A HALF MEN
    30 ROCK
    UP ALL NIGHT
    PARKS AND REC
    SCANDAL
    PERSON OF INTEREST
ROCK CENTER ( Only cause I feel bad for it and it’s ratings

  • KJ Styles

ABC was completely IDIOTIC for putting it’s best new show Last Resort in the death slot against BBT/2.5 Men and X-Factor. It will not survive there. I’ll DVR it though to see if it’s any good.

Glee DID NOT DESERVE that cushy post XF/AI timeslot. That should have been given to The Following instead. It’s whatever though, because Person Of Interest is gonna destroy Glee anyway :)

While I’m a CBS fan and think they will win the night easily. I really wish they would have increased their comedy hours on Thursday and had POI at 10. That would have made the move of Mentalist to Sundays make more sense.

And finally, they shouldn’t have their two highest rated shows on back to back. While it does give POI a strong lead in, I think HIMYM or 2BG would have done the same. Plus that move weakens Mondays ratings a bit unless Partners becomes a hit.

  • KJ Styles

I’ll be watching The Big Bang Theory and Person Of Interest for certain. I’ll give Elementary a chance, and I’ll DVR Last Resort.

  • Jenny

TVD, Grey’s Anatomy, and Scandal for me.

  • Prup (aka Jim Benton)

Haven’t read any but the first page of comments. My own calls show this as one of the real disaster nights. Two highly promoted guaranteed disasters in LAST RESORT and the incredibly bad — by description, if my sound card weren’t broken, I’d have watched the promo — ELEMENTARY. LAST RESORT may get a lot of critical acclaim, but I simply can’t see how it can find an audience. It just doesn’t seem the sort of idea that people will by dying to watch — and I am wondering how they will retain the audience they get, since i can see plot holes of a swiss cheese level — no, of a TERRA NOVA level that they’ll need to fix to have a chance for credibility.

And ELEMENTARY can only play out as a dramedy, fully tongue in cheek — and even then the joke will run thin in three weeks. Holmesians will hate it, people who only know Holmes from tv — or even the movies — will be scratching their heads, and the actors will deserve praise if they can play into the situation and keep a straight face. (The whole cocaine thing has, when mentioned, always been misunderstood, the idea of Holmes being compelled to room with Watson, the sexual questions, the attempt to transfer an idea through a hundred years of time and across the ocean when Holmes was so tied to his time, all make it risible. And i have yet to read if they are attempting at all to use the original cases, but i have no idea how they could given the dependence of so many of them on a class structure, a social code, and in some cases, ideas that were deliberately shown as old-fashioned when Doyle wrote them.)

I’ll probably watch an episode, or if the pilot appears on line and the sound card is replaced, watch that, because this one could be so bad it is high camp. (But then, I’m a detective story fan, thousands over fifty-five years of reading them, but NOT a Holmesian. The Baker Street Irregulars might picket the shooting, and would be right to.

  • Georgie

@ purp i am dying to watch Last Resort and the audience for the show is there. Also what plot holes are you referring to? Last Resort looks much better then Terra Nova.

  • Del

Vampire Diaries! I will try out Beauty and Last Resort. I might try Elementary, but I love the BBC Sherlock and this will likely not be nearly as goid, also CBS shows are not online so if you miss episodes there is no way to catch up, which is a disincentive to watch shows on CBS for me. I will also watch Scandal, although what Olivia sees in that sleazy eyebrowless Fitz is a mystery to me.
