The current 2011-12 season officially ends after next Wednesday night's programming, so we'll wind down this season with a night by night look at next Fall.  First up Thursday (since it's Thursday today).  Check back tomorrow for Friday, Saturday on Saturday, etc.

Unlike Fall 2011, when The X Factor results show crashed into Thursday among a total of seven new shows, Fall 2012 scheduling changes seem minor, with the most noteworthy change being Two And A Half Men moving to 8:30.

At least early on I expect most interest will be for:

  • How does Two And A Half Men do at 8:30? Can it help put CBS on top the adults 18-49 ratings for the entire night?
  • How will the addition of Britney Spears and Demi Lovato change the ratings for The X Factor?
  • Will Last Resort be the next Lost? Or the next Missing / FlashForward?
  • Will Beauty And The Beast do better than The Secret Circle?
  • How will the other relocated veteran Glee do?
  • How low can NBC go on "The Night Formerly Known As Must See TV?"

For a trip down memory lane, check out 2011-12's Thursday Fall schedule:

Not too late or too early for NBC to blink.
If they really want to use Rock Center as a utility player, put it on 8am instead. It’s election year, can a good news-magazine could be a great counter programming against CBS’ power comedies, Last Resort and X-Factor.
Great opportunity at 10pm to launch a new drama (Chicago Fire maybe) against a weak returning show (Scandal) and another new show (Elementary).

After the election, Rock Center can move to another time or night and sitcoms can re-gain its 8-9 hour block. By then NBC can re-assess how its Friday comedy block is doing. NBC doesn’t necessarily have to continue a 2-hr block from 8-10 just because of tradition…time to explore new genres for this night, NBC!

To watch: TBBT and for a reason I forgot, 30 Rock.

I have a feeling that CBS are throwing in the towel on 2.5 Men, but it should be enough to crush XF.

And GA, why oh why did you have to kill of Chyler Leigh, one of the two cute cast members and reason to watch.

I am sure this must be blasmaous to network heads, but would not be surprised if many programs fail not because of bad timeperiod, lack of creative writing, or the actors aren’t good, but because of too many homosexuals.

  • POI fan

Awesome! I don’t need to reprogram my DVR for POI. :)

  • Aquitar

CBS will have my attention from 8-9, CW from 9-10, and something on completely different channels afterwards!

  • tv#1

Thursday night will be a great night for TV. The CW will again be my Thursday night destination. TVD is my favorite show and it just keeps getting better. I am also really excited for Beauty and the Beast.

CBS is also offering a great Thursday night line up. I am glad that TBBT will again be paired with 2.5 Men. That will be a great hour of comedy. Also, POI is a good show and I am looking forward to season 2.

    My Thursdays:

    ABC – *Last Resort
CW – *The Vampire Diaries, ^Beauty and the Beast

*Once of these going to recieve the DVR treatment.
^If Im hooked I’ll keep watching.

Don’t want to get too invested on new TV shows then the networks decides to cancel it. A la Ringer (which was decent), Missing (which was great!), Charlie’s Angels (was good).

    ABC I want Missing BACK!

  • Petar

Upgrade(improvements) that i want to see in person of interest season 2:

1 new main character – female lead – Mariana Klaveno or else.

2 a little bit more action – make man happy.

3 little romance – make girls happy.

Will be happy if PoI win few Emmys for outstanding cast, storyline and writing they have.

Also they can start season with action guess star like tom cruise for episode or two if is not mission impossible.

If PoI take post super bowl slot from now create the storyline – have to be greate.

  • Temis

Last Resort is going to get slaughtered. CBS and FOX are snarfing up the male demo between them. Maybe ABC can convince us that it’s a soap about sexy naval officers in a romantic tropical paradise?

  • Temis

Elementary has clear sailing in that timeslot.

  • Petar

    Thursday is easy for me:

TBBT-TAHM-POI! And CBS win the night.

  • Temis

Beauty & the Beast will fail quickly. Kristen Kreuk can’t carry a series, not even CW fluff. TVD will become the new Lost – the show that kills everything that follows it. It doesn’t help when the audience dogpiles on the internet to yak about the show right afterwards.

  • Petar

Elementary is not even close to Sherlock but with no competition will be fine. Thursday at 10 is the easiest time slot from all weekdays tv slots. Even TBBT repeats will be harder compettion than rock center and scandal.

  • Dahne

Since I had to revisit the trailer to remember what Last Resort is about chances are i will forget to watch the pilot too. That would leave TBBT in that spot for me but I can take or leave it. If Beauty and the Beast did NOT star Kristin Kruek, I would probably give this show 6 episodes to hook me. As it is I think PoI will win my viewing. Thursday is never as big a TV day for me as Fridays seem to be.

  • Dahne

    @Andy Dwyer
“NBC is and always will be Must See TV. I don’t care if it finishes lower than the QVC Network, I’ll be watching.”

Bwah! I don’t watch NBC comedies but this comment made me laugh. Thanks! Love your dedication too. Fans of shows with low ratings are a special group, no matter which show you watch.

  • Andrea from Italy

If i was NBC, on Thursday I would have done:

    – 8 The Office
    – 8:30 Parks & Recreation
Moving this comedy block to the 8-9 slot. On Thursday these are their best performers. They would probably have some problems against The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men but I think it’s still a better choice than 30 Rock and Up all Night.

    – 9 The Biggest Loser
A safety choice against Grey’s Anatomy, a X-Factor-boosted Glee and Person of Interest.

    – 10 Smash
I don’t know if NBC wants to bring it back to be the lead-out to the 2nd cycle of The Voice on Monday, but i think it would be the best if they put it on the schedule since September, trying not to lose the continuity from May. In Italy last night was broadcasted the season finale and IMO it finished with a BANG. And maybe Smash could benefit from the “hypothetical” lead-if of the X-Factor and Glee: X-Factor > Glee > Smash.

  • Carm

    Bring Back Harry’s Law!!!

  • Joseph

Last Resort , REALLY ! , This show is going to crash and burn harder then THE EVENT and FLASHFORWARD combined.
I will watch TBBT, 2 Half Men (I really hope they improve the scripts and production).
    Then will watch Glee ,
and end the night checking out Elementary ,, DUDES << This has friggen Aidan Quinn & Jonny Lee Miller , 2 amazing actors , and though she gets crap , this could be a great role for Lucy Liu. I really want this show to work.

  • Gustavo

    I will watch:8:00 Last Resort.9:00 Grey´s anatomy.10:00 Scandal.Through DVR:The Big Bang Theory,Two and a half men,Person of Interest.

  • Leia-TX

I will continue to watch TBBT. Two new shows for me to sample, B&tB and Elementary. I will give each about 5 episodes and if I like them, will continue to watch.

I don’t think the XFactor results show nor NBC will do very well against the CBS comedy hour, TVD, and Last Resort. While I think the performance live shows will continue to be steady, I believe more and more people will DVR results shows including The Voice, DWTS, AI, etc.

With Glee on now, Grey’s female/overall demos may take a slight hit. Enough even for POI with it’s TAAHM lead-in to actually win in demos and viewers. This will be an interesting match up. I just hope B&tB doesn’t tank here, CW needs some new hits or at least good performers.

Elementary should do well for the first few episodes of people sampling it. Time will tell if the version is good enough to retain them.
