The current 2011-12 season officially ends after next Wednesday night's programming, so we'll wind down this season with a night by night look at next Fall.  First up Thursday (since it's Thursday today).  Check back tomorrow for Friday, Saturday on Saturday, etc.

Unlike Fall 2011, when The X Factor results show crashed into Thursday among a total of seven new shows, Fall 2012 scheduling changes seem minor, with the most noteworthy change being Two and a Half Men moving to 8:30.

At least early on I expect most interest will be for:

  • How does Two and a Half Men do at 8:30? Can it help put CBS on top the adults 18-49 ratings for the entire night?
  • How will the addition of Britney Spears and Demi Lovato change the ratings for The X Factor?
  • Will Last Resort be the next Lost? Or the next Missing / FlashForward?
  • Will Beauty And The Beast do better than The Secret Circle?
  • How will the other relocated veteran Glee do?
  • How low can NBC Go On "The Night Formerly Known As Must See TV?"

For a trip down memory lane, check out 2011-12's Thursday Fall schedule:

    I forgot to do this but;
    Ratings predictions:

    TBBT: 4.5-5.2
    2.5M: 4.1-4.8
    30Rock: 1.4-1.6
    UAN: 1.2-1.4
    Last Resort: 1.7-2.5
    TXF: 3.8-4.1
    TVD: 1.1-1.4
CBS comedies will dominate. UAN will sink in its new slot. Last Resort will do better than many of the death slot’s caualties (like Charlie’s Angels), but it will be a close call. No idea what TXF’s numbers were, so I gave it ratings similar to The Voice.

    The Office: 2.1-2.5
    P&R: 1.7-2.0
    Glee: 2.8-3.3
    GA: 2.9-3.5
    POI: 2.8-3.5
    B&TB: 0.7-0.8
Glee will shoot up in the post-XF slot. GA and The Office will fall slightly, while POI will grow a little. B&B will do better than TSC did, and will probably get renewed.

    Elementary: 2.7-3.4
    Scandal: 1.7-2.0
    Rock Center: 0.4-0.8
Elementary will do slightly better than The Mentalist, and keep most of the POI lead-in. Scandal will go down to cancellation zone. I left a wide berth for RC because it will stay steady due to elections, but fall in midseason.

    Network averages:
    CBS: 3.9
    FOX: 3.5
    ABC: 2.3
    NBC: 1.3
    CW: 1.0
Yikes! The CW will be within .3 of NBC! So CW and CBS will grow, ABC will be down, and NBC will tank so badly.

I’ll probably watch 30 Rock, Up All Night, The Office, Parks and Rec (i’ll probably PVR everything except for 30 Rock, can’t miss a second of it) and Elementary looks good.

  • Eskim0girl

I will be viewing B&B BECAUSE of Kreuk. I loved her guest role on CHUCK and saw what she could do with a script that is actually good. I saw more than a couple of seasons of Crapville and LBR the only people who I blame for some of the stuff I saw on that show are the writers…please even Marlon Brando could not give a decent performance when an episode revolves around kryptonite-infected gum!

  • anne

Last Resort is going to be amazing. I hope it is able to survive against the highly overrated BBT.

  • heather

After that amazing season finale, I can’t wait for POI season 2. :)

  • Sam

CBS will rule on Thursdays. POI will shine with a good lead in and Elementary looks like a winner,

  • SJ

CBS should do really well on this night. Not only are Big Bang and Men their biggest sitcoms, they also have the rising (for the most part) Person of Interest and the promising Elementary, which seems compatible with POI and also something that fans of Sherlock Holmes and The Mentalist could be into. I’ve always been more of a Poirot fan myself, but I’ll give this one a try because of Lucy Liu.

Fox should do OK with The X Factor and Glee. Glee itself, though, I expect to be down substantially. Grey’s will come back huge, likely in the 4.5-5.0 range for the first episode back and Glee should just be lucky to get half of that.

ABC is pretty much going to be Grey’s Anatomy and the two failing shows surrounding it. I think both Last Resort and Scandal will be gone by January, but not before. Still, at least an okay premiere for LR could keep their nightly average at high 2s.

NBC is going to be a total disaster. I give the 8pm block a 1.1, the 9pm block a 1.6 and Brian Williams a 0.6 average.

I’ll be watching 30 Rock, Parks and Rec, Last Resort, Grey’s Anatomy and Elementary. Maybe Up All Night; it’ll be gone in thirteen weeks anyway.

Thursday is best night on tv.. Of course THAT’s the night NFL Network shows its games.. It would figure.. But nobody in the NFL cares about the competition because they know they’ll blow it away. And network Presidents and programming people all have their heads up their butts. That said, BBT/2 1/2 Men block is solid for CBS. Glee vs. Office should be interesting. By far, the best shows on the air right now are mostly on Thursdays. Could care less about X Factor ..but when Idol comes back- it will win out for me… esp. because the NFL is over by then. CBS also shows its programs on their website by midnight of the same day

CW: B B = flop Kristin K. is not a great and good actress! Honestly……

  • Chris

Loks like the vampire diaries & glee are my Thursday nights

  • Temis

Scandal may survive because of the Gray’s lead-in, but Last Resort will have a hard time attracting the male audience to a female network, especially with the timeslot competition it has. Elementary has smooth sailing. The Vampire Diaries will claim another post-timeslot victim and B&B will be cancelled quickly.

  • Allen

    NBC:
    30 Rock-1.3-1.7
    Up All Night-1.2-1.6
    The Office-2.4-2.8
    Parks and Recreation-1.9-2.7
Rock Center With Brian Williams- 0.8-1.2

This season has to be P&R’s make-or-break season ratings-wise. The show deserves it.

People seem to be optimistic about Person of Interest… I still think Grey’s will beat it just like it did this year.

  • American

CBS will be untouchable on Thursdays this fall. They should call it “Super CBS Thurdays”.
