WWE® MONDAY NIGHT RAW® EXPANDS TO THREE ELECTRIFYING HOURS LAUCHING WITH THE 1,000th EPISODE, JULY 23 ON USA NETWORK

@JohnCena Tweets Historic Announcement From USA Upfront Presentation

NEW YORK – May 17, 2012 – WWE Superstar John Cena® announced via Twitter today that WWE Monday Night Raw will expand to a three-hour event 52 weeks a year. The extended telecast will kick-off July 23 at 8/7C on USA Network and marks the 1000th episode of the WWE Raw franchise and a television record – no other series has ever reached this milestone. The announcement was tweeted today by Cena (the No. 1 most influential male athlete on Twitter last month) during USA’s upfront presentation in New York City. The move firmly put WWE’s stake in the ground as one of the most powerful social brands in the world and an integral part of USA Network’s social media initiative.

“The WWE Universe is one of the most socially active and passionate fan bases in all of television,” said Chris McCumber and Jeff Wachtel, co-presidents USA Network. “The powerful three-hour block of live TV truly makes USA the year-round destination for young male viewers on Monday nights.”

“WWE is proud to celebrate this historic milestone with our partners at USA Network,” said WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon. “Our new three-hour Raw represents the next generation in interactive television where our fans won’t just watch the show, they will help create it.”

The expanded WWE Monday Night Raw will transform television to an unprecedented level of viewer interaction. Fans will have new ways to get involved in the show through WWE.com and social media by deciding matches, stipulations and new character development. WWE will brand this unprecedented fan interaction as “#RAWactive.”

Just bring back Tough Enough! A 3 hour Raw is just going to be more clips and more talking less action. This is why I record Raw and fast forward through all the talking now I’ll have an extra hour of it bummer

NXT and/or Tough Enough need to come back!

  • Ram510

And I hope they don’t keep it this way in the Fall cause I really wont have time for it

  • William

Dumb idea. Hard enough making room on my DVR for 2 hours, 3 hours? Looks like once the fall hits I’ll be done with RAW

  • Jeff W

Disaster in waiting. Maybe not for the WWE’s bottom line but for the viewing public. When Raw is off it’s game the two hours can be a trial. A run of bad three hour episodes could inspire a backlash.

If it leads to better storylines, more matches, LONGER matches, more wrestlers, maybe the revival of a title or two then I’m all for it.

If it involves an hour of recaps, horrible guest stars no cares about, and fifteen 2 minutes matches…uh oh…

I hope they thought this through…

  • Columbo

Expect Toucan Sam HHH to take up the entire first hour telling everyone that he’s still The Game.

  • MBmomof3

more wrestling, less talking please. Get rid of John lyringitis.

  • Ford

Other series have hit 1000 episodes. Dr. Phil, Oprah, pretty much all the classic soaps.

Maybe they meant only primetime show to hit 1000 episodes.

  • Jericho

    Yes Guys,
Raw Expand 3 hours starts July 23th 1000th Episode Launching and Stone Cold,Hbk Edge and Undertaker other Best Superstar and Hall of famer Returning and WWE Championsìp match Arranged

  • Ryan

Rob is right. They are insecure and add facts after commerical breaks to pat themselves on the back.

The three hours a week, in my opinion, will work if they implement more tag-team matches, put give more pushes to other wrestlers and cater to all audiences.

On a side note, I’m still puzzled why TNA (or Impact Wrestling) will move up an hour earlier.

  • wwe rules!!!!!!!!

CAN YOU GUYS JUST SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND HONESTLY THE STORY LINE WITH JOHN AND JOHNNY IS VERY ENTERTAINING, ALL I ASK FOR IS LONGER DIVA’S MATCHES AND MORE DIVA STORY LINES AND BY THE WAY NOT ONLY IS IT BETTER THAN TNA IT DEMOLISHES THEM IN RATINGS AND THEY DO VERY WELL ENTERTAINING CHILDREN SO I THINK 3 HOURS OF RAW IS PERFECT AND DURING SUMMER, EVEN BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!

  • yragcom1

Double the package reairs in a two hour broadcast, and you get three hours. I FF thru the two hour show now, it’s so bad. I just hope RAW ends on time now. I hate having to miss CBS or NBC at the top of the 8:00 hour.

@ KJ Styles: It isn’t impressive? Are you high? No other American tv show that airs once a week has EVER hit 1000 episodes. So, you’re just wrong.

  • Justin J. Poppiti, Esq.

I am against this decision. We;ll see how it plays out.
