Continuing with the night-by-night look at the fall schedule, we move to Friday night.  Friday is sometimes scoffed at as a wasteland night when nobody watches television. Less people watch television on Friday, but only around 15% less than the typical Thursday. That still leaves a lot of people, but most of them are usually watching something other than the English broadcast networks.

This Fall the night will initially include 8 hours of scripted television (same as last Fall) on the broadcast nets with one new scripted series. Last Man Standing and Malibu Country are scheduled to move into the ABC 8pm slot in November, upping the scripted total to 9 hours and two new shows.

The new series are CBS's Made In Jersey at 9pm and later ABC's Malibu Country at 8:30pm. Perhaps CBS learned their lesson with A Gifted Man that premiering a new drama on Friday at 8pm isn't such a good idea.

Fringe being in its final season, and the move of Supernatural to Wednesday will likely dampen interest around here on Saturday mornings in the Fall, but we may make up for a little bit of the traffic from anxious Community fans, and maybe a handful of Touch fans. A potential traffic windfall for us would be if Grimm ratings stumble early, it could become the next traffic Fringe or Chuck.

If you're looking for other nights of the week, be patient.  We'll post one per day through next Wednesday and then you'll have them all.  You can find them (including Thursday night) here.

Take a trip down memory lane with last season's 2011-12's Friday night schedule:

  • Allen

Lol @ people saying Community will be 3-5 tenths off of Whitney and Grimm.

I don’t think you guys realize how hardcore the Community fan base is.

ABC will most likely win the night most weeks. Shark Tank, WWYD and 20/20 have done a pretty good job these last three months. With the Tim Allen/Reba comedy block at 8 and ST moving to the more high-profile 9pm slot – and finally being given a fall run – I think we might finally be looking at a show that can pull a 2.0+ rating consistently. The comedies should be in the 1.5-1.8 range.

CBS pretty much put CSI: NY out to pasture by moving it to 8pm. Expect Undercover Boss to take its place by Feb sweeps. Made in Jersey might get a back-9 order, but it’s hard to imagine it going beyond that. Blue Bloods has dropped, along with everything else, this spring, but hopefully it can get back to its usual 1.7-1.9 levels in the fall.

It is going to be a rat race for third place between Fox and NBC all throughout the fall. NBC’s comedies won’t crack a 1 rating, but Grimm should be stronger than both Touch and Fringe. Dateline is always the wild card for NBC and could help them better Fox on some nights.

For me it’s Community, Malibu Country and Blue Bloods on Fridays this fall.

Touch (one of the best shows ever) on Friday- may actually get me to watch. This is similar to when Friday Night Lights was on (also one of the best shows ever) Nothing else to watch with the rest of the crap. NBC (“N”othing “B”ut “C”rap) is a joke. Whitney? Are you kidding me? Worst show in history of tv.. and it gets renewed. HAHA. NBC…HAHAHA.. what a bunch o’ losers.

‘CSI: NY’ at 8:00PM means ‘Undercover Boss’ moving to another timeslot or a Season of 18-20 Episodes ?

  • Bizarro

You guys know the CW could just give Nikita 23 eps instead of 22 later on to wrap up the series and it gets its syndication it will get 67 with 22 but with one more episode it will get 68. Which is syndication, so if the show doesn’t increase to a 0.5 which should be the lowest demo to be renewed for the CW that would be a great option.

  • Bizarro

Oh sorry I was wrong it has to have 88 eps. Oh well, if ratings don’t increase it won’t get a fifth!

  • Felipe Nikita

I really hope nikita gets a good rating , its the best show

  • Polar Bear

  • Networkman

I feel CBS will quickly move CSI:NY back to 9pm once Made in Jersey does worse than Grimm. It may get more viewers than Grimm but its demo is going to be low. I really would love The Mentalist to get the 9pm slot. It would be such a strong night for CBS. Undercover Boss should return back to Sunday.

Why is Whitney still on? Even on Fridays?
