That “precious” 18-49 group is growing for 3 of the shows.

  • Millie

The ending of all Soaps is like watching a sinking boat that someone is using bubble gum to plug the holes… it is a SLOW but steady decline to the bottom folks… Painful. End it already…

  • Sean

GO GH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UP IN THE ALL IMPORTANT 18-49 DEMO & ABOUT TO OVERTAKE B&B!!! THE CHEW GOT 2 Million Flat & a 18-49 demo of 0.6….WHO’S THE BETTER OPITON ABC? KEEP ROCKIN GH!!

  • righton22

GH ranked first in the all important 18-34 demo too! Yeah! I think the show is rockin and they deserve the increase in ratings. I have not enjoyed GH this much in years! I hope the upswing continues.

  • Dave.A

    @Sean

    “WHO’S THE BETTER OPITON ABC?”

The better option is still The Chew because it earns more profits to ABC than General Hospital does even with its lower ratings.

But if GH continue to increase the margin that separate it from The Chew, then GH will become the better option. GH is in the right direction and I hope that it keep up the good work. But as of today, The Chew remains the better option for ABC.

Has DAYS 14th revamp that I read about some time ago taken place yet? In that go around Sarah Brown had been fired, Carrie and Austin were adios, and I can’t remember all the other changes. I don’t want to start watching until the show is well into this new “place” because I will start to enjoy someone or something that will end up being the person or story that’s going. That’s the problem with me: I ALWAYS like what the producers get rid of and can’t stand what they keep for 80,000 years. One comment that I will make is that when I was sampling the show a few months back I thought the Sarah Brown character was awesome, as well as the actress who played the role, as well as the story that revolved around her. I can’t imagine “that” is what the producers wanted to tweak. ???

  • Sean

Thanks for that info Dave…..now i will just try even harder to make the Chew Fail & GH have NOTHING BUT SUCESS!!!

  • cc

Yay for GH! Onward and upward.

Hate to see Days improve any while that show is still a mess, it will only encourage them to keep on that same worn out track.

  • pinevalleylover

Go GH!!!! it really needs to keep the increase because days is rising as well and abc has to make a desicion about gh in upcoming months wether to cancel it or not so keep it up gh!

  • Clarke

I know lately things haven’t been too interesting on Y&R because of MAB but this week and last week were actually interesting. The whole Ricky might be a psychotic murderer like his aunt and mother plotline is … believe it or not…actually intriguing. Especially since Christine and Danny are returning this week.

  • Bob

    Congratulations to soap fans.

  • Sean

Everybody that has a DVR, Record GH & Rewatch it after your finish watching live…but, DO NOT FAST FORWARD & IT WILL COUNT IN THE RATINGS!! Please do it soap fans, i have been doing it. & let it play through on ABC.com as many times as you can. & BOYCOTT THE REST OF ABC DAYTIME!!! lets go soap fans!

  • Dan

    General Hospital/OLTL is on fire!!!

  • Jeff

GO GH. Improvement is improvement. It always makes me laugh when people say what shows earn more profit, etc for the network. Unless you work for ABC accounting, I don’t think you know what you are talking about. It’s all speculation! Anyway, FV and RC just keep doing your jobs well. Good for you.

  • Derrick

    Happy to see Y&R up!!
    Excellent DAYS went up!

  • Richard

I have been reading speculation that the 3 soaps that are up are due to many places losing SoapNet already. I had not even thought of that, but it is affecting the 3 soaps that also air on SoapNet. Interesting thought.

And I never expected this, but seen this posted a couple of places:

an insider from DD (Daytime Dish) dropped this 2 days ago

The daytime line will be featured in two weeks at the Aflliates meetings. They are not keeping GH on the air until next April or May or whenever that 50th Ann is.

If the affliates don’t want to air it in the fall it’s gone in September and Frank and Ron have two months to wrap it up.
More likely is November or January but if the Affliates are as hot on GMA in the afternoon as some of them seem not likely

And if they features the Chew, The View, Katie and GMA GH is toast.

There are already affliates that are airing GH in the fall in Florida and Ohio. They are to be given a choice of GH and GMA in the afternoon. The minor ratings boost GH got from Soapnet losing markets isn’t going to save GH in the long term and if the budget is getting slashed again GH is going out to fumes.

I’m so glad the soaps are doing well. But remember people over 50 are watching soaps too, I spend a lot of money on products. So I should be counted too. I try new things every week. I’m not set in my ways like the networks think.

  • Mark

I’d be curious to see how the network daytime shows measure up in general from time to time…not just the soaps. See how shows like the View, Price is Right, etc. compare. I know syndicated shows couldn’t be included.

  • Richard

I am happy for soap fans with the rise esp. for the show I used to love GH. But come on folks quit blowing it out of proportion. How in the world can you honestly say that GH is on fire. It is moving very little.

And if it is only because some viewers who were watching on SoapNet can’t anymore — then they haven’t really picked up anything. It is just viewers being displaced by SoapNet now being counted in the ABC ratings.

You guys don’t want any negative comments but at least try to keep it real.

Still the big story is B&B which is up by big numbers from last year in total viewers while GH is still only up 1000 viewers from last year. GH by no means is on fire yet.

  • Richard

    @ Mark,

Someone usually always adds the daytime talk shows at some point here each week.

Here are the numbers from the very biased site of Marc Berman:

Based on the Live Plus Same Day ratings from Nielsen for the week of May 7, it was business as usual in daytime network talk. The View on ABC was most-watched with 3.30 million viewers; The Talk on CBS remained on the year-to-year upside with growth of nine percent in total viewers (2.02 to 2.19 million) and as much as 17 percent in women 18-49 (0.6/ 4 to 0.7/ 5); and The Chew on ABC continued to bleed from year-ago occupant All My Children as follows:

All My Children – Week of 5/09/11
    Viewers: 2.30 million, Women 25-54: 1.1/ 7, Women 18-49: 0.8/ 5, Women 18-34: 0.5/ 3

The Chew – Week of 5/07/12
    Viewers: 2.09 million, Women 25-54: 0.8/ 5, Women 18-49: 0.6/ 4, Women 18-34: 0.4/ 3

Percent Change – The Chew vs. All My Children
    Viewers: – 9, Women 25-54: -27, Women 18-49: -25, Women 18-34: -20

As for cancelled The Revolution on ABC, 1.22 million viewers this week — down 53 percent from the 2.58 million for One Life to Live one year earlier.

And if you don’t believe he is biased — register yourself and make a comment that disagrees with him. I did that yesterday and still over 24 hours later my comments are still not posted — but all the ones who agree with him about soaps or The Chew, etc. are posted.

He might call himself a journalist but he is no more a journalist than my dog is.
