Continuing our night-by-night look at the Fall 2012 schedule, we move to Sunday.  The only changes on the night are two ABC shows, and one CBS show, but only one of those shows are new.  Desperate Housewives, long an ABC tentpole is gone, and hopeful sophomore Revenge takes its place at 9pm, followed by the only new show of the night, 666 Park Avenue.

Last spring there was some doubt about the NFL season, but there's no doubt this year. Sunday Night Football will, of course, dominate the night's ratings. ABC won't top football, but it may well top the night after football season.

Will The Good Wife finally be sold into syndication? Considering the tenacity of Les Moonves' salespeople, I'm going with yes, but it hasn't been an easy sell. The Mentalist takes the place of canceled CSI: Miami at 1opm. The Mentalist will have 116+ episodes at the end of next season (its 5th), and isn't owned by CBS. Next spring will be an interesting time for fans worried about the show's future.

No new shows for Fox's Sunday animation line up next season. The Cleveland Show will join the night at 7:30 after football season.

Take a trip down memory lane with last season's 2011's Sunday Fall schedule:

Unless I get hooked on OUaT in the summer rewatch, which isn’t likely, or Revenge blows me away (more likely) my Sundays will consist of 666 Park Avenue for at least 6 episodes.

  • Aaron

I think Revenge is fine. It’s the only show that premiered at 10PM that survived this season (not counting SMASH MONDAYS AFTER THE SUPERBOWL and SMASH MONDAYS AFTER THE VOICE). OUAT fans will definitely love Revenge.

  • Tusca

It’s football night obviously but I like the moves ABC made here by putting Revenge on Sundays but Revenge needs to start its season early this year and not at the end of September or early October.

  • Petar

Will watch only once and revenge. And not regularly. SHAME for you CBS. They again make presents for competition in sunday. How long CBS with this sunday madness!
Sunday is now victim of syndication CBS tactics and money. They have much stronger shows to put against ABC, but pass again! And now is not even DH there to fear about.

  • Temis

A bit strange to see OUaT and 666 Park Ave broken up by a non-fantasy show, but there’s still plenty of flow to that schedule. I’ll watch those two and skip Revenge. DVR makes that easy.

  • Temis

@Liam – “But I think ABC should put Revenge on at 10 and 666 Park Avenue on at 9 as Once and 666 seem like supernatural type-ish shows and might be a perfect match for each other.”

I think so, too. Maybe 666 Park Ave is too sexy and violent for 9pm? I hope so hahaha!

  • Petar

TM in 8 or 9 will be much stonger competition for ABC than TGW and AR! Just saying.

  • Jose

Sundays are gonna get busy, I love the Amazing race, The Good wife is the best drama on network tv right now!!! and my guilty pleasure is Revenge, and Cable too i would not miss my favorite show Breaking Bad and the return of the walking dead OMG to much!!!!

  • Tim

I understand not wanting to kill Elementary right off the bat, but moving the Mentalist (a show that wins its time slot on Thursdays every week, even without its CSI lead in) to Sundays just doesn’t make sense unless it’s an early negotiation tactic.

  • Nick

I’m sure OUAT fans will like Revenge. I love OUAT and like Revenge. The OUAT-666Park-Revenge idea would flow very nicely, because since when is Revenge not violent? ;-)

    What I’ll watch:
    7 pm: AFV
8 pm: DVR OUAT, and if I’m in the mood, I may watch football
    9 pm: DVR Revenge
10 pm: DVR 666 Park, at least for the pilot.

You can see I DVR a lot of stuff :-D

Just because TM won its time slot doesn’t mean anything to CBS. ABC programming gets 2.0s there, and it’s the NBC death slot, with shows getting under 1.0. The Mentalist would need to go a lot below its ratings now to dip low enough to not win its slot.

  • Dan C.

Unless OUaT dramatically falls when it comes back due to football, I see Revenge surviving (and possibly growing) at 9. It’s a risky move, and yet an intresting one.

  • Mary

I’ll definately be watching OUAT which I think will do fantasitc next year. I’ll also be watching TGW which I expect to pull the same numbers as last year. Of course, thanks to football The Mentalist is going to take a hit but CBS has to know that. I just hope they don’t lose all of their audience to 666.

My DVR will be busy in December when Leverage comes back. I also have to decide whether I want to watch Homeland live or DVR it. Last year, I DVR’d it so that I could watch TGW when it went over but now that TM is in the picture I don’t think that’ll work–unless I record Homeland at a later hour.

  • March

I like your comparison with Dynasty. Dynasty also started at 10 pm with no very special rating. The next season moved to 9 pm and only grow from then. Revenge has that Dynasty vibe and i pray to god that it becomes even bigger in the second season.

  • One

The insertion of 666 Park Avenue and The Mentalist on this night MAY complicate things if I decide I like the former. Either way, it’s looking like I’m going to have to do a lot extending on both sides of my Mentalist recordings to ensure Good Wife gets picked up as well on overrun nights.

  • Ryan

Not happy about Revenge and the Good Wife going up against each other. Sadly I will probably be watching Revenge and catching up on TGW later that is if we have as many football interruptions.

  • Mi

“8pm – OUAT has the edge but IMO the show won’t sustain it’s numbers as the story can and has dragged a bit with TAR coming close to matching her”

OUAT’s story has been really really dragged, nobody remembers anything, the town is still stuck, the curse has yet to be broken.. oh wait.. lmao.

Do you even watch the show?

And as for OUAT and TAR, OUAT beat TAR and Survivor’s season finales despite getting hurt by DST, so I wouldn’t rule out OUAT beating TAR this season too, though TAR could have the upper hand at times during the fall, as it did last year, due to Football.

  • The Hafk

I really hope Bob’s Burgers does better in the fall.

  • JJ

If they are going to cancel the Mentalist after fifth season i hope they announce it early enough for writers to wrap up the whole Red John story. It would suck big time if we didn’t get a satisfying end

I really liked Once Upon a Time but the finale had some parts i didn’t like so much like the part where Emma killed the dragon… That scene wasn’t made well enough… I will keep watching though

Revenge was good also but sometimes a bit boring but i’m looking forward the season finale and season 2

I will also try 666 park ave… Saw the promo and liked it… glad that vanessa williams will stay on our screens. The whole cast looks pretty good and all of them are ABC’s former stars

Sundays are gonna be very interesting next season

PS. I’m still pissed that ABC cancelled GCB!!

  • NJ Viewer

There will be nothing on Sundays that interests me.
