Continuing the night-by-night look at the fall schedule, we move to Monday night.  ABC is keeping the exact same lineup as Fall 2011 and CBS is close, with only the new comedy  Partners at 8:30p, and 2 Broke Girls moving to the tentpole 9pm spot after the Thursday move of Two and a Half Men.

NBC brings The Voice into the Fall, followed by new drama Revolution at 10pm. For NBC's sake, I hope it lasts longer than The Playboy Club did.

We can only hope we'll get a little Revolution fan chatter joining the Castle v. Hawaii Five-0 trash talk on Tuesday mornings.

The CW moves Gossip Girl an hour later than last Fall for its final season (not clear on the episode count) and brings 90210 into the night. The Carrie Diaries is scheduled to enter the night after Gossip Girl is done.

Nothing nearly as newsworthy on the night for Fox as Terra Nova was last Fall, but rookie The Mob Doctor will follow Bones.

Take a trip down memory land with 2011's Monday Fall schedule:

    Yes, every sixty seconds does sound like overkill. People would be turning in their boxes before the first week was over.

    I don’t see the wisdom of moving Two & 1/2 Men. Big Bang already gets great numbers, why bunch the pair together. However, if they had to it, they should have put Mike & Molly on at 9pm instead of 2 Broke Girls since I think it’s a stronger show.

    Revolution sounds interesting but I won’t be watching since I’m already watching H50 and recording Castle.

  • Mi

    @Liz
    “Either way, surely we agree that Castle’s half-hour drop is probably not because a large portion of the audience all magically woke up at the exact same time and changed the channel.”

    We only see the data of 10:00 and 10:30, how do you know those viewers don’t switch out already at 10:10? Why do you assume they switch the channel only at 10:30?

    Plus, let’s not forget the half hour ratings data we do see are not the final ones..

  • Holly

    @Mary,

    they should have put Mike & Molly on at 9pm instead of 2 Broke Girls since I think it’s a stronger show.

    Mike and Molly consistently got the lowest comedy ratings of the night. Moving it to 9 would have been suicide.

  • Jim

    Smash might end up like Harry’s Law(i hope not)

    Season 1- Ok ratings, good for renewal

    Season 2- new timeslot, death

  • Mary

    I have a ratings question. Twice over the course of the last ten years, I was asked to keep a written tally of all of the shows that I watch for the week and send my results. I’m assuming this was from Nielson but it’s been so long that I can’t recall. Why do they do that if they’re already doing the dalies? Do networks factor in those numbers too?

  • MoHasanie

    Mob Doctors will fail. Fox doesn’t have a good choice in drama’s anymore.

    CBS looks good, but if Partners fails, then the night will be a lot weaker.

    The Revolution looks interesting, but I won’t bother watching it. Its too much like a movie, and shows that are like movies are boring, i.e Tera Nova

    ABC looks the same. DWTS is weak now, and Castle performs averagely at 10pm.

  • Bunny

    I think Partners will be another hit for CBS..

    The trailer made me laugh a lot.

  • Liz

    @Holly

    Absolutely. Castle drops at the half hour like all shows, and any reasonable person would see that was the case, but…

    @Bill

    Right, I know. He used to post (or maybe still does) at Berman’s site under a different name (and he did so here for a brief time, I believe), and he’s been pushing the “sleeping viewers” angle for several years now. I figured now was as good a time as any to point out why he’s still wrong, and maybe he needs to get past this weird obsession he has with Castle. Useless, I know, but it was fun to do once.

  • Mary

    “Mike and Molly consistently got the lowest comedy ratings of the night. Moving it to 9 would have been suicide.”

    Really, lower then 2 Broke Girls? I never really paid attention. I just remember hearing bad things about Broke Girls a few months ago at one of the press tours. I had the impression that Mike & Molly was stronger creatively.

  • Liz

    @Mi

    I don’t, but the person I was responding to apparently does. It makes much more sense for the show to steadily lose viewers over the hour. But my point is that this happens to all 10pm shows, and to use that as a mark specifically against Castle is dumb.

  • Mi

    @MoHasanie
    Shows like Revenge and Once Upon a Time can too be considered “like a movie.” I think the difference between a show and a movie today is getting smaller personally, and whether The Following, Revolution, Arrow, Last Resort, etc, or Revenge for that matter, could actually last and reach syndication depends imo on their storylines and character development

  • Liz

    @Mary

    I had the impression that Mike & Molly was stronger creatively.

    That doesn’t mean it’s stronger ratings-wise.

  • Gina

    I know it’s only fall, but I’m making the prediction that the Kevin Bacon drama doesn’t see Monday’s. I think they will do what they did with Touch, especially of Mob Doctor flops badly. Glee to Monday and The following to Thursday. Fox needs a hit pretty badly in the drama department. I LOVE Bones, but I’m not naive to think it is gonna last a few more years. *maybe* one more after 8 at best. If Bones can do 2′s I can see it Being given another season. Fox needs a hit and Monday’s are seemingly a death slot for new dramas.

  • Ben Thompson

    NBC will probably win the night thanks to The Voice. Revolution will probably get sampled so it does have a chance to stay above a 2.

    CBS took the biggest risk with this night and hoprfully it pays off. I really do not want to see 2BG collapse.

    All Star versions have recently not been doing great (eg Project Runway, Top Model. Amazing Race etc.) so I dont know why ABC decided to do one. Maybe it could work for them but I expect to see more erosion on this night for them.

    Fox and CW will be dead this night.

  • Bunny

    I heard 2 Broke Girls and Big Bang Theory’s ratings are huge over in the UK Happy Endings airs after those 2 shows it’s basically ignored..

    Mary, diaries like those are still used in smaller markets during the four one month “sweeps” periods and are primarily for local ratings measurement/calculations.

    All the ratings you see on our site are gathered from the 56 biggest markets that use the Nielsen people meters.

  • HB

    Just H50 for me on Monday.
    Revolution will start great and will slowly decline

  • Mike

    Revolution !!!!

  • Mary

    @Bill,

    Now that I think of it, I know the last time a had a ratings diary it was in May. So those are helpful for the local stations, not national. Thanks.

    I agree with those who said Partners will be another hit for CBS (I hope they are not sarcastic!) I watched the preview and it is funny and looks a nice fit (bridge) with HIMYM and 2BG.

    CBS is obviously preparing for a Men-less line-up (in case negotiation after next season go wrong) by moving it to Thursday and grooming 2BG as a replacement.
