The average viewership increase From DVR Viewing ranks which of the top broadcast shows [by Live+7 viewers] had the largest absolute increase in average viewership by DVR between the Live + Same Day and Live + 7 day ratings measurements.

Do the Live+7 ratings tell us anything about a show's renewal prospects we didn't already know from the Live+Same Day ratings?  No.  Click here to learn more.

Definitions:

DVR (Time-shifted) Adults 18-49 Ratings – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data LiveLive+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs.

Live+Same Day(Live+SD) ratings include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing.

Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

DVR Ratings Increase Past Airdate - How many people watched the show on their DVRs within 7 days following the airdate

Until the 2009-2010 season, we used a show's LIVE program rating or viewership as the base upon which the LIVE+7 day DVR viewing was added. Now, the press seems to be standardizing around using LIVE+SAME DAY DVR viewing as the base for the calculations, so that's what we do now as well.

    DVR Low for Supernatural – Who the hell is gonna DVR it, when Castiel does ridiculous nonsense in these episodes?

  • Josh

    @KS
    Oh here we go.lol

    They did get a 1.0 before one of those weeks it’s not the first dude.

  • KS

    Castiel is for sure repulsing people away –

    The Born Again Identity – Live + 7 Ratings – 1.0
    Reading is Fundamental – Live + 7 – 1.0

    Both are the least rated Live + 7 episodes. I know networks believe in ratings a lot. So, please bring new recurring stars to Supernatural.

  • DanaK

    Amanda,
    Something seems to be off in the numbers for Smash (and who knows if anything else is wrong). For that week, its 18-49 rating was 1.8 not 1.7 and its overall viewers was 5.34 million not 5.239 million. This is according to TVBTN’s own final numbers post for May 1 (http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2012/05/01/monday-final-ratings-bones-how-i-met-your-mother-2-broke-girls-dancing-with-the-stars-adjusted-up-castle-adjusted-down/131754/)

  • DanaK

    And to follow up, if the Live + SD numbers are off for Smash, it’s possible the Live + 7 Day numbers are off as well.

  • KS

    @Josh

    The other episode was – The Born Again Identity – where they bring return of this so-called great angel. You know what, Sam and Dean are two babies who can’t even crawl. It is THE Castiel, who taught them how to walk and talk and no doubt we might even hear, Castiel taught Dean how to kiss.

    Ready to bleed for the Winchesters, My a$$!

    Castiel did disastrous things in that episode – Reading in Fundemental and a lot more time is allotted to that character in the episode, than he really. This is what happens, when writers start fulfilling wishes of a few fans on internet.

    I hope at least next episode DVR ratings improve.

    strange, no Idol this week? And, looking closer, no The Voice either? Hmmm, seems odd, no? American Idol is usually amongst the top ten performers!

  • DanaK

    Also off for Live + Same Day: Hawaii Five-0 – should be 2.5/10.91 instead of 2.4/10.836, Castle’s demo is right but viewers should be 11.08 instead of 11.095, Bones’ demo is right but viewers should be 7.16 not 7.14

  • Josh

    @KS
    Ok maybe you need to take this over to the fan boards, im sure you won’t be the only one who feels that way. lol

    I’m not the biggest Cas fan either, but I don’t blame every drop in the ratings when he pop up. If you happen to notice SPN is just about a 8 year show it’s OLD so it will shed in ratings. It happens to all shows when they age simple as that.

  • Hades

    @KS

    I don’t really like Cas either but your constant bashing is getting annoying.

    It’s probably just a coincidence that both Castiel episodes happened to be the lowest rated episodes of the season.

  • Ram510

    It’s funny how in the fall Modern Family was gettin a 7.0-8.0 after DVR numbers an now it’s down to a 6.2

  • Hades

    Anyone know what Nikita got?

  • KS

    @Josh

    I was thinking about it just now. Its not very long, before I might get a warning from Bill or Robert about to stop my hatred toward’s Castiel. I guess it has gone to extremes. Even I don’t feel doing that on this site is right any more.

    FYI, I did try to log in to IMDB boards, but I am not able to enter. I will try some other forums. Don’t worry, I will take this discussion somewhere or the other, but not here.

  • KS

    @Hades

    Castiel fans shouted loud enough for months on internet, for the crew to hear, when he was gone.

    Yeah, why should we be calm? We will request for better recurring stars. And hope our opinions get noticed.

    But, I accept, doing that stuff on this website isn’t right.

    @DanaK, “Something seems to be off in the numbers for Smash (and who knows if anything else is wrong). For that week, its 18-49 rating was 1.8 not 1.7 and its overall viewers was 5.34 million not 5.239 million. This is according to TVBTN’s own final numbers post for May 1″

    Very occasionally, the final ratings we get the day after airdate are further adjusted.

    The numbers in this post are the ones that Nielsen sent out today.

    “strange, no Idol this week? And, looking closer, no The Voice either? Hmmm, seems odd, no? American Idol is usually amongst the top ten performers!”

    And yet, this week Idol was not in the top 25, in any of the tables.

    Do you have access to this information?

    “Do you have access to this information?”

    I would think that the contents of this post answers that question.
