As another broadcast TV season slips into the rear view mirror, NBC Sunday Night Football finishes on top of the all important adults 18-49 ratings. The contest for second was a nail biter, as the Wednesday American Idol edged The Voice by just 0.04 ratings points. Modern Family was the top scripted show of the season.

How is OUAT’s 18-49 average a 4.1? If my records are right, OUAT premiered with a 4.0 and never got there again.
Hooray for NBC! Having the top rated and third top rated programs for 2011-2012.
Okay, so it’s football and The Voice. Their highest rated scripted show (The Office) was number 32, and their third highest rated show airs in the summer. But NBC needs something to get excited about, don’t they?
People with the comments, realize this isn’t overall viewers and this isn’t Live+SD. This list is skewed towards the Live+7 numbers, (the only times Live+SD numbers are factored in are for the airings late in the season where the Live+7 numbers have not come in yet, which is everything after 5/7/12) and it is only 18-49 demo, and it covers all airings in all time slots unless specifically noted, including repeats.
That’s why numbers you keep tossing out like the telecasts, overall viewers, and ratings are not what you think they should be. This list isn’t what you think it is. Adjust your perspective accordingly. That is all.

Wow a lot to analiyse. First Yay for Grey’s being the # 1 drama, still the best show, and great for Modern Family and OUAT for being # 1 scripted and new show respectively. Also too bad that Revenge didn’t get the push into top 50 but still pretty good. Really weird that GCB above scandal, its sad that it was cancelled but both should have been renewed, sad. And damn it that my favorite comedy ( Cougar Town) isn’t higher. Hopefully TBS reruns help it

We may, if we get total viewership numbers for the dates of the season. Usually we do, sometimes we don’t. Since the season ends on a Wednesday, an our “normal” data from Nielsen ends on a Sunday, we need a special set of data like this one.
“These ratings mostly include DVR. NFL doesn’t usually get significant DVR viewing. Idol, Voice and Modern Family typically get huge DVR increases. All the more impressive for Sunday Night Football.”
Correct, these averages are almost entirely Live + 7 Day ratings, 2.5 weeks out of 35.5 weeks are Live + Same Day. I made a slight adjustment to the text above the table to try and quell the confusion evident, but I’m not sure how well that will work.

I was looking at last season’s ratings, and great year for new shows; X Factor x2, New Girl, 2 Broke Girls, and Once Upon a Time all hit the T20. Last year: “Overall, it was a weak year for freshman series as The Voice was the only new show in the Top 20 among adults 18-49, at No. 4.” The runner-up was #26.

Movements: Football and Idol traded places. Voice+1. Modern Family barely moved ahead of Thursday Idol. Dancing with the Stars went from 5 to 30; ouch. Survivor 8/17 to 20/29. NCIS 10 to 19. Glee 11 to 25. Office 11 to 32. 2.5 Men went up from 13 to 9. House 14 to 36. A bunch of other movement too.

Why do they still focus on Adults 18-49? I think the baby boomer generation is very different than past generations. My mother spends a lot more money than I do and she isn’t loyal to products at all. I don’t think it’s necessary to focus on 18-49 anymore. The baby boomers are the first generation to truly be raised on mass marketing and can be fools at any age. It’s old thinking to focus only on the young.
If these numbers mean anything, why are repeats not on the weekly +7 list. Also, it is always stated on here that the +7 numbers mean nothing. Nothing against TVBTN, they don’t create the list, but when someone creates a list like this that does not compare like to like, the list is simply invalid statistically and I think the advertisers are smart enough not to be influenced by it. The same applies to FOX winning the overall season when they do not run 10 pm shows.

Unlikely. The Voice’s ratings are very inflated due to the Super Bowl lead-out being counted as a regular episode. Without that episode’s 17.3 counted, The Voice’s season average drops all the way down to 5.32, short of even the lower rated day of Idol.
