    @DB

    I have no problem with people going to campaign for Barrett or Walker(much like other State Governors like Haley or Christie) but when blind money gets into the game I want to know exactly what their motivation is to back Walker. I don’t even have problems if out of state money comes in if we know who it’s from, it’s the whole idea that people with agendas that we have no clue who they are are pumping in money to this.

    Walker was so against out of state money months ago effecting the election it just seems like he has double standards when it comes in for him.

    Faith3 – Also, under Clinton the economy was doing well and people didn’t mind paying more toward balancing the budget. Clinton was careful to make this important and valid point when discussing the issue of taxes. For those middle class people with good wages, the more likely the middle class person will be willing to pay in.

    ————————————

    You do know this is a logical fallacy? ;) “People” & “middle class” are inclusive terms.

  • Hillbilly

    PaulG – I’ll take your word that the 49% is wrong and stand corrected…

    ——————————

    The 49% & other numbers that are around are guess-estimates from studies. Gabriel threw in the pay SS tax. I’ve found its better to say 49% (depending on your source) pay no fed income tax. Some who pay no fed income tax get refunds eliminating the SS tax they pay. I can’t say for sure the number of folks who pay no fed income tax. Whatever the number is, its to high. Everybody should have some “skin in the game.” JMO

    @PaulG
    “Should the 49% who pay zero today go back to the 13.8% tax rate in the 80?s or do we just raise taxes on higher income individuals and give tax beaks to the shrinking middle class and continue to grow the population of americans who pay nothing? The republicans you shock must be very uninformed if they were unaware that Pres Reagan cut taxes significantly from very high marginal rates…”

    I was giving you that example to show you how high the tax rates were back then and yet people are still complaining today…even though they are much lower today than during the Regan years.

    I don’t believe we should raise the taxes as high as the Reagan years. I think if we went back to the tax rates during the Clinton years it would be much better. Yes, that includes the highers tax rates for the lower brackets as well.

    Here’s a look at the tax rates under Clinton for a Single person:
    (1994 adjusted for inflation)

    $0 – 34,444 = 15%
    34,444 – 83,423 = 28%
    83,423 – 174,114 = 31%
    174,114 – 378,508 = 36%
    378,508 and above = 39.6%

    Today’s Tax Bracket:

    $0 – 8700 = 10%
    8,700 – 35,350 = 15%
    35,350 – 85,650 = 25%
    85,650 – 178,650 = 28%
    178,650 – 388,350 = 33%
    388,350 and above = 35%

    So if we implement Bill Clinton’s tax rates using today’s brackets, this is what the changes would look like:

    $0 – 8700 = 10% —————> 15% (an increase of 5%)
    8,700 – 35,350 = 15% ———-> 15% (remains the same)
    35,350 – 85,650 = 25% ———> 28% (an increase of 3%)
    85,650 – 178,650 = 28% ——–> 31% (an increase of 3%)
    178,650 – 388,350 = 33% ——-> 35% (an increase of 2%)
    388,350 and above = 35% ——-> 39.6% (an increase of 4.6%)

    Now if it were up to me, I would simply go with a 3% increase across the board. Yes, it would piss off a lot of my liberal buddies but we all have to make some sacrifices in order to get our Country back on track.
