Well looks like small gains for some. Days down? Hmmm I have liked it lately. B&B looks like it is closing in on the key demos.

  • Derrick

Wish B&B would end the Liam/Steffy/Hope triangle because it’s doing my head in!!!!!!
    Good Y&R is up!!!
    DAYS????????

  • Pinevalleylover

Go gh!! Keep up the increase its not much but its better than nothing! I hope abc will renew the show. I know that it was semi confirmed the show was renewed through 2013 but abc changes their minds as fast as i turn my head so keep up the increase!

  • Dvdveeken

If B&B can rise as much as they did year to year, surely all the other soaps can too… Or could it just be that half an hour of soap is enough nowadays?

  • Jeff

every little bit counts, but it is very important that Frank and Ron quicken up the pace, keep shedding the unnecessary characters, bring back old favorites, and put them in stories with current favorites (for the 100th time, Bobbie and Carly, Bobbie and Luke, Bobbie and Elizabeth, Bobbie and Felicia, Bobbie and anyone). The faster they wrap up the dead Anthony story, the better. Then, send Johnny along his way, along with crazy Kate/Connie, crazy Heather, and Spinelli and Maxie should marry and be on their way. And, already, new Kristina should just be on her way out of town. Send Shawn to bodyguard her in Europe and kill two birds with one stone! Just my random thoughts for improvement!

  • cc

Nice to see GH inching up.

Does anyone know how the Chew is doing? Could Days being losing viewers to them? They’re on the same time here.

  • Chrisann D

Hey Jeff, Good to see you on here. I get why you just pop in and out quick! Last week we had a ummmm…well lets just say it was ugly. Glad he is gone now!

  • MBmomof3

I’ll take the small gains as a sign of hope. Always happy for any soap ratings increase.

DOOL has actually been much better for the last couple of weeks IMO. Hope its numbers improve soon too.

    GO SOAPS!

  • MBmomof3

cc, According to TV Media Insights, both The Chew and the Revolution are at new lows. Not surprising.

  • Tested

Soaps are dying folks. Year to year a 240,000 viewer loss among those 4 soaps. 220,000 of that in the target demo of women 18-49.

People are finding other things to watch during the day. B&B and Y&R are in decent shape, but GH and DOOL are probably headed for cancellation in the next year or two unless something dramatic happens.

  • Andy

@ Jeff, I agree with some of what you said about GH, but I am liking the actress that is playing Kate/Connie and always love Heather Webber and Robin Mattson. GH’s pace has been very good and am I enjoying Todd & Tea on GH. So far, the new Kristina and her storyline aren’t impressing me.

  • Pat

GH has been very good lately, and it’s nice to see the show being infused with some new life and rebounding gradually. But it’s going to have to keep increasing like this consistently to have any legit hope of convincing ABC to keep it past next year-not up one week, then down the next week or two.

As for DOOL, with ratings as dismal as this NBC will almost certainly cancel the show next year, barring an unexpected ratings surge.

  • MBmomof3

No matter the ratings, I thought the soaps were really good today. So glad TPTB are bringing back Cliffhanger Fridays.

  • Chirstopher B.

I’d post about how the small ratings rise for GH is good news but RIchard would just come on here and spin it into his weekly GH hatred. He accuses other people of crapping on his threads but he does the same to everyone else. God forbid someone be positive and state that they don’t udnerstand why he posts so much negativity about a show he doesn’t even watch. Sorry Richard your opinion means nothing when you base it on reading spoilers. You don’t watch the show so you have no right to an opinion.

Get ready now Richard will come on here and cry like he has been victimized just like he does every week. Don’t believe me go back through all the old threads and you will see it for yourself!

  • Clarke

I know many people will disagree with this… but Y&R is getting very interesting. The writing lately has been improving and the plot lines are actually go some where for once.

I like how they are using Ricky to bring some of Phyllis’s past sins to light again and FINALLY making Phyllis pay for her actions. Today’s episode was riveting – Ricky scheming with Dr. Reid and the flashbacks of Phyllis trying to kill Christine were all well put together.

  • MBmomof3

Clarke, glad to hear that. Y&R has been really hard to watch for awhile now. I too see some hope with the direction they’re heading. Hope they get their spark back soon. It can be such a great show and has a very talented cast.

  • Richard

Very good post Jeff. Couldn’t agree with you more about some of the changes.

MBMom, At least it is only down to days for The Revolution. That show should have never seen the light of day.

I just wonder why Berman switched from reporting the actual rating for The Chew to reporting viewers this week.

Here’s the previous week reported as usual:

The Chew – Week of 5/14/12
    Viewers: 2.13 million, Women 25-54: 0.9/ 6, Women 18-49: 0.7/ 4,
    Women 18-34: 0.5/ 3

And here is how he reported this week:

The Chew – Week of 5/21/12
    Viewers: 2.18 million, Women 25-54: 580,000, Women 18-49: 419,000, Women 18-34: 163,000

Notice that in total viewers The Chew rose this week. Not sure where he gets the new low.

I wonder if the Chew rose in some of those categories so he chose not to compare the rating and compare viewers to AMC a year ago.

Just seems weird he would change the way that he is reporting things.

I have never watched B&B but I am still very impressed by how much they continue to be up from last year. And still none of the soap sites ever say anything about this. It just keeps going ignored.

B&B and The Talk continue to seem to be the big winners out of all of this. NBC and ABC just seem to be sending viewers over to those 2 shows with The Revolution being so terrible and Days being down.

I wonder if Good Afternoon America when it starts will change any of that or is it too late for ABC to try to win some of those viewers back from The Talk.

MBmomof3…if Marc Berman’s TV Media Insights claims that “The Chew” and “The Revolution” are at ‘new lows’, then he is dead wrong. In fact, “The Chew” was up from the previous week, so how can it set a new low?

Here are the numbers for the network talk shows:

    The View (ABC): 3.22 million
    The Talk (CBS): 2.32 million
The Chew (ABC): 2.18 million (that is just 9% below what AMC was doing one year ago)
    The Revolution (ABC): 1.31 million

The low ratings for “The Chew” and “The Revolution”, by the way, are 2.04 million and 1.22 million respectively (I only count the weeks in which new episodes aired).

Chirstopher B [sic]…I just have two comments:

    1) Richard has not even posted a comment and he is already being attacked (a preemptive attack?). So, of course he is going to defend himself, thus ‘proving’ your point that he acts ‘victimized’. Kind of like the famous old line of questioning…’when did you stop beating your wife?’.

    2) Using your own criteria, no one on this board should be moaning and complaining about “The Chew”, “The Revolution”, or even “The View” because odds – based on their claims – they don’t watch anything on ABC but GH. So, if you don’t watch any of ABC’s other daytime shows, then you have ‘no right to an opinion’ on them. Or, does this criteria only apply to those whose opinions you don’t necessarily agree with?

  • JayTN

To clarify my previous post, when I started typing, Richard had not yet posted a comment, so the first part of my reply to Chirstopher B may not seem to make any sense without that explanation.

  • Rickster

Kinda surprised at DOOL and the “off the ledge” ratings dip. I’m currently watching today’s episode (Friday, June 1st) and I know they’re getting ready for the cliffhanger before the Olympics, but the “I’m gonna kill you Stefano” visits from just about every cast member is really silly.

People can recommend who to bring back, what to write about, etc, but it all comes down to viewership and unless something impressive happens, I’m not surprised DAYS is down in the dumps. It’s definitely my soap and I’m hoping it climbs out of this slump. Here’s to summer (crosses fingers).
