I am finding Days to be very enjoyable and am especially relishing the mystery surrounding “who is out to get Stefano?” Days deserves to rise in the ratings for sure!

    I find GH unattractive anymore.

  • Kayla Rae

Give Richard a break, already, please!

I totally agree with you about Y&R. I have also been enjoying it lately. Ricky is just totally creepy, but I do like Phyllis with all of her flaws though. This is a very interesting storyline IMO. I liked seeing Danny and Cricket together again, nice blast from the past! I also thought it was funny when Victor found out about Billy and Sharon hooking up (the night before of his wedding to Chloe), then Victor asked her to “kindly show herself out” of his house and walked right by her, LOL. I do not want them together! Way too much of an ick factor considering she is the mother of his grandkids.

I too am impressed with B&B. It quietly holds its own without much fanfare. Just wish Liam would hurry up and choose between Hope and Steffy, I too am tired of that s/l. Should get even more interesting since Deacon is about to show up though.

I think Days and GH are the most talked about since their ratings haven’t been super great lately. Yes, they have made small gains here and there, but everyone is on their toes wondering their futures.

Melanie, Nice to see you back. You were missed around here.

Jay, We must have been posting at the same time last night.

Jay, Any thoughts on why Berman would switch from his usual practice of reporting the rating number to reporting the viewers in the demo for his AMC/The Chew comparison?

My theory is that the compairsons were dramatic enough in the numbers this week so he compared viewers? But I have not see all the numbers in key demos for The Chew — so I don’t know.

Why doesn’t NBC move DAYS to a different time slot so it doesn’t broadcast at the same time as Y&R and B&B? This soap surely cannot survive in its present status. GH is another soap that is in a stupid time slot and NEVER will reach 2.5 million. Y&R and B&B have the obvious soap edge and when they are the only two left, they might been able to eek out several more years.

  • Rolls Royce

i think by next year there will only be 2 soap. Both of them on CBS. The only reason i think they survive is because their rating are higher than most shows on Nbc

  • Rolls Royce

Next year CBS will be the only network with soaps. Thats only because their ratings are higher than most shows on NBC.

@Chrisann, you nailed it. No point in engaging in negativity. That’s not what I like in my life. Just love showing my GH support, and maybe Frank and/or Ron will see my posts and bring back Bobbie!

And, I like crazy Heather and such too, but it’s just too many psychos in PC!

  • Chris

    @ Sean

How much more rude and classless can you be? You have zero right to tell people on here to “shut up”. If you can’t take any negative/pessimistic opinions about GH and its future, then you should go somewhere else. Go to another board/site solely for pro GH/soap shills. This is a free country and every person on here is entitled to express his/her opinion, whether positive or negative about GH and/or soaps in general. You don’t have to agree with everyone, but you need to express your disagreement in a respectful, thoughtful manner. Just because an opinion doesn’t match your sunny thoughts doesn’t give you any right to attack and tell that person to “shut up”.

Like it or not, the reality is that right now there’s no guarantee that “GH will live on” past next year. At this point, I personally think ABC will give it through at least January 2013. But anything beyond that probably hinges on how GAA does over the summer, and the expectations likely aren’t super-high to make it a full-time show. I could definitely be wrong, but that’s just what I feel at this point.

  • Melanie

@Richard, thanks. Just thought I would take a little break since it got kinda crazy around here, LOL.

  • Richard

    Oh it did.

My only thought on GH at this point after seeing some of the latest promos is that I think GH’s fate may be sealed whether good or bad with the story they kick off this week. Since it involves spoilers too and something not aired I won’t say much on the actual story.

But I can see the story going 2 different ways. Either way it is a story that from my understanding has played out on several soaps already in the last few years. Plus it involves characters with strong fan bases.

This story to me will either bring viewers in or it will make even more leave.

The one thing that I definitely think it will do is further OLTL fans against GH fans and force them to take sides on the characters. Which I just don’t see as a good thing for the show at all.

Add to that they announced officially another OLTL character visit for the summer this week — which has already reignited the long time GH fans against the OLTL fans. But some reporters are saying and many fans are speculating that this time the return is to silence OLTL fans who are writing the show and complaining about their favorite OLTL character seeming to be moving on from the person he was with in Llanview and destroying their idea of him being with that person forever in their mind.

I think some OLTL fans were excited about the OLTL characters coming because they thought they would just continue the OLTL love stories/stories etc. from there but that isn’t happening. So now they are angry at RC/FV too.

It’s funny but I find all the backstage stuff a whole lot more interesting than what is happening on screen at GH.

”GH is another soap that is in a stupid time slot and NEVER will reach 2.5 million.”

Really? And at what time do you think General Hospital aired when it was the #1 soap during the 1980s? At what time do you think GH aired during the glorious days of Luke Spencer and Laura Webber? But why go as far in the 1980s when we can just take an example as recently as early 2011 when GH had 2,8 millions viewers. And guess at what time it was airing here also.

As long at GH fans put the blame on the network and the lead-in instead of acknowledging that GH is very unbalanced soap opera dominated by Sonny, Jason and Sam, ratings will NEVER improve.

And it’s not in July and August, when Good Afternoon America, start raising the roof in the ratings that GH must wake up. That may be too late. GH must work on its ratings NOW.

Yup, Richard, that’s exactly what I thought, the OLTL characters would be TRUE to what they were on OLTL, and that means true to the people they were in love with. I see John slipping further and further away from Natalie every day. And Todd seems to be getting closer to Tea and/or Carly, instead of Blair. People like me, who watch soaps for the love stories, don’t want to see their favorites in other pairings. At least, not unless their “true” love is still in the picture, having scenes with them, so there’s hope they will end up together again. I don’t know why anybody thought we would enjoy seeing John or Todd without the women who make them “tick”. If ME and RH were playing different characters, sure, but not John and Todd, who are definitely ALL ABOUT Natalie and Blair. As for DAYS, at least they still have a lot of our favorite couples together. But I don’t like the lack of focus on them. I’m tired of Stefano and I’m tired of Will. I’d like to see more of Jack&Jennifer, but this week we found out they’re engaged. Just like that. We didn’t get to see it happen because DAYS was more concerned with showing us Will “coming out” to somebody EVERY OTHER DAY! No wonder the audience is leaving.

  • Michael

The one good thing for DAYS is that it is on NBC. The show can’t decide whether it wants to move forward or stay in the past. The people who care about Bo, Hope, marlena, John and Stefano are probably in their 40s and 50s. You can’t draw in new young fans when the young actors that you use regularly are Will, and only Will. I’m a fan of the gay storyline, but they need to make use of the younger people more often.

  • Justin

Agreed with Michael. It’s really hard when it comes to Days because you have a quite a mixture of long time fans and newer fans who don’t know the history behind the families etc. Will’s coming out story has been played pretty decent for the most part but there isn’t much substance to the rest of the group. I think the Chad/Melanie/Gabi storyline could be a lot better but they need more air time and a steady move forward. I’ve heard rumours that Belle/Shawn are returning to Salem and a possible return of Mimi as well. I’d love to see Belle/Shawn/Mimi/Rex/Phillip/Chloe etc. return and have some really great storylines. The show was great when they were all on and they are the perfect characters to help bridge the gap between long time fans and the newer fans.

  • Richard

    Michael & Justin,

I think that is the biggest problem with GH too — in a sense. I think the writers are trying to play too much to trying to blend the OLTL characters into things and create a new audience — that they have forgotten or just don’t care that GH had an audience before the One Life At Genenal Hospital crowd.

Either that or they just don’t care as one OLTL fan put it yesterday — they are tired of the GH fans complaining, basically said to h*ll with them and just let the OLTL fans have the show. Also something to the affect they couldn’t see what the GH fans were fighting for as the show was trash before the OLTL characters came on.

I sometimes wonder if that is now how RC and FV feel too. To me with the spoilers and all and the rumors it is just always about some new character or OLTL character coming or more coming or how they are going to relate to the new GH. As bad as the Jason/Sam/Heather/Franco stuff was it was the only story truly about GH characters but that all changes this next week too.

Some current producer or writer could completely revolutionize the industry and might save soaps if they could come up with some way of blending the old audience with the new audience on those shows in a way that respects both the old and new.

Also they need to learn that the shows need love, romance and drama/stories. And definitely not this back and forth stuff of one week Jason loves Sam and the next week he loves Elizabeth and vice versa with Elizabeth with Lucky and Jason. Or Sonny this week proclaiming Kate is the love of his life and then when they can magically Vanessa Marcil to make a visit he suddenly forgets the love of his life to go running to Brenda who is now the true love of his life.

It is just like I said last week they are scared to make a committment to one path just to keep the fan bases at war with one another. And now they have found a new way to do it by pitting the OLTL fans against the GH fans. And that one is sure setting the ratings on fire.
