Touch was pre-empted by So You Think…Dance last week. I think that was a mistake. SYTYCD will be fine over the summer. Because Touch was pushed back a week for the finale – people already started their Summer schedules and vacations.

Touch was a really good episode – the series pushed it up a notch on suspence.

FOX is already putting it on Friday’s in the fall – I think FOX has a commitment with Kiefer on how long he gets to have his show regardless of ratings – at least for the first 2 seasons.

‘Touch’ Will get a full Season (22 episodes) and then CANCELED !!!!

Touch is the best show on TV right now!!! You have to have a brain that wants to follow something longer than the brain of gnat follows something though. Thank you (sarcastic) younger generation, for the brain numb sitcoms we have to endure week after week, that are mindless and meaningless drivel. I love the show (Touch) because I have seen events in life unfold miraculously just as the show depicts. The premise of the show is interesting and possibly(probably) farfetched, but seeing things connect in life without explanation is awesome. For this reason I love Touch, the miraculous does invade our lives on occasion and this show reminds us of that.

Wow, a Rules repeat was #2 for the night! Dang, nice!

I don’t see why the dominance of reality TV about D-grade celebs will prove any more immortal than that of game shows, variety shows, primetime news, nighttime soaps, or miniseries. Something else will come along and boot reality out of the slots that the networks can’t fill with scripted dramas and comedies. Reality probably won’t die, but give the industry a decade and reality will be much rarer than it is now. As for scripted TV, it hasn’t gone anywhere in six decades. It’s probably won’t disappear any time soon.

I’m having a hard time imagining a scenario where Touch gets 22 episodes in its second season. Its ratings were still dropping at the end of *this* season: there’s no reason to think that it’s going to somehow pull out of its death-dive in the Fall (in a Friday Death Slot, no less), let alone find enough of an audience to justify ordering another nine episodes.

What makes you think it could get a full second season order?

(Honestly, I still don’t understand why exactly Fox renewed it at all. Did they just not want Kiefer Sutherland available for other projects? Did they get a huge price cut on the budget for a second season? They certainly couldn’t justify renewing it on the basis of its ratings, and definitely not for quality.)

I’m a Kiefer fan but Touch isn’t my thing, and it doesn’t seem to be the thing for most US viewers either. Renewing it seems like a mistake. I thought the article which would do better on Fridays, Touch or Fringe, was just to score views with the Fringe fans again. But you may be on to something, I just wasn’t following the Touch ratings very closely. Going from 3.4 (I think?) to 1.3 in just one short season is a lot. I can see it go below 1.0 pretty fast in a second season on Fridays.

I agree with basically everything you said, and I think you misunderstood me. I’m merely saying that there’s no chance that reality will be replaced with a significant increase in scripted programming. It’s simply not a viable business model for the networks. However, I do think that something else will eventually replace reality competitions as the schedule filler of choice (maybe game shows?).

“Hire some writers and ween off of reality” is an unreasonable demand, resulting from ignorance, especially in the context of summer programming.

  • Bumfuzzled

Ultima- give it a break. The suppostion of hiring more writers is a wish to put good people to work. Where is the demand? Ignornance? I won’t demena to name calling.

@NJ Viewer “…ROE repeat got better ratings than shows on the other networks, and CBS is canceling it?” On 5/21, CBS announced that ROE was renewed for a season #7. The new eps will commence at midseason.

Wouldnt be suprised to see TOUCH end after another 13 episodes. It took FRINGE 4 years to reach levels TOUCH has sunk to. Hopefully they will end it with an episode where Martin end up meeting Jack Bauer (in a dual role)and they both put an end to the evil organization.

Cant say I will miss it – watching it only because Keifer is in it. Hopefully the kid wont turn into another Danny Bonaduce or something. LOL

  • tscchope

Tou8ch is pretentious crap. That’s why viewers ar leaving it in droves. fat lad’s getting ready, Reilly. Will Touch manage to finish above 1.0 this season? Terra Nova never dropped below 2.0.Guess that means Fox have abandoned Friday nights.

Of course, Terra Nova can be resurrected. Show’s makers wanted to relocate out of Australia anyway.

I love Touch…it releases something wonderful in me.
