Each hour of the two episode season finale of Touch drew a preliminary 1.3 adults 18-49 rating down from the 1.7 adults 18-49 rating for its penultimate episode. The drop itself isn't really surprising considering Touch had a week off and didn't have American Idol around to pump it up.
Those numbers look pretty bleak, but it's not like Fox didn't see it coming having already slated Touch for Fridays at 8pm in the fall. Last night's 1.3 adults 18-49 rating does beg the question of how far Touch's ratings will fall on Fridays and whether it will be able to better Fringe. Indeed, Fringe fans may be playing the "its lead-in is dragging it down!" Fan Excuse Bingo square in its final season.

Touch will rate higher than Fringe, but not by much. Once Fringe is gone, Touch will sink to Fringe levels.
O c’mon TVBTN….this is just silly.
@Noel: of course it is, but don’t play it off like you had something better to do!
Since it’s Fringe’s last season and Supernatural won’t be competition, I think Fringe will have a stable season at around 1.4 and Touch will have a season high with 1.4 ]:)
I think SPN and Fringe out of timeslot by midseason will be good for Grimm/NBC.
Fringe fans had better watch, they’re lucky they got a renewal at all.
…but then again, they likely won’t.
Ooh, close call. Fringe has consistent ratings on Friday, albeit low ones, suggesting that there’s a solid core audience that will show up for its last 13 episodes no matter what. Even the fans who decried this season as being terrible will likely stick around to see how it ends, even if it’s only to complain about it.
Touch’s ratings, on the other hand, haven’t seemed to hit rock bottom yet. And even if it had stopped hemorrhaging viewers, moving it to Friday will just drive those ratings even lower. Based on its performance so far, I’d be shocked if it got more than 13 episodes next season. (Honestly, I’m shocked that it got a renewal at all; it certainly didn’t earn one.)
I’m betting Fringe will take this one, but not by much.
Next fall Saturdays will be a mess. Fringe fans accusing Touch of bringing the ratings down. Community fans complaining about the move to Friday and “this is why the show is doing so bad.” Grimm fans saying their show is superior to the rest and should be in a better time slot. Nikita fans claiming NikitahasgratinternationalsalesbestratingsinChinaMagueQishugeinAsiadoingthebestoniTunesNetflixAmazonGetGlue…
For the first time I’m glad Supernatural will not be a part of it.
I hope Touch can survive Fridays like Fringe has been doing for so long!
And of course the finale numbers were low, because sweeps have been over for about two weeks now! And there was the two-week delay to make room for SYTYCD…
And best of luck to Fringe during its final season! I’ve been catching up on that one, just finished S2 the other day. Cannot wait to get ahold of S3!
It’s always a toss-up, but since Touch is a procedural type drama with different stories every week and Fringe is more “in,” I’d say Touch will rate higher.
Both will do badly, but Fringe will do better.
I think they will do about the same rating wise. Touch will probably rate slightly higher than Fringe, but not by much.
Touch in viewers, Fringe in demo…both very low
Touch might do better at around it’s premiere but will be around 1.5ish. The Question is whether Fringe fans will be bothered to watch live knowing it’s the final season anyway. Chuck anyone?
Reaching for page views on this lonely Summer Friday?
I think it’ll be very close but since Touch is most likely more expensive that Reba/Tim Allen, CSI NY and Whitney/Community, it’s Friday demo would probably get it cancelled on Fox (plus 20th TV almost always plays nice, with it’s fees, only when a show is already in Syndi).
@samunto
Knowing its the last season makes me want to watch it even more live
Both shows will be lucky to have a 1.0 demo.
They’ll both stink. Fringe will do worse, though.
I don’t really care. Fringe has its final season to wrap things up. I couldn’t care less about the ratings, which are even more meaningless next season than they were this season.
Finge will outrate Touch by a couple of tenths.
1.1-1.3 for Fringe
0.7-1.1 for Touch
