Updated Tuesday, June 5: Game of Thrones set series highs in total viewers with 4.2 million and also a series high with a 2.2 adults 18-49 rating.
Game of Thrones airs its second season finale Sunday night. Time flies, especially when there are only ten episodes in a season!
The premiere telecasts of Game of Thrones season two episodes has been pretty consistent. It premiered to a 2.0 adults 18-49 rating and hit that rating two other times. It hasn't hit or cracked the four million viewer mark in those telecasts, but it's not far off either.
Game of Thrones season two ratings:
| Date | Game of Thrones Season 2 Episode | 18-49 Rtg | Viewers (Millions) |
| Sunday, April 01, 2012 | The North Remembers | 2.0 | 3.858 |
| Sunday, April 08, 2012 | The Night Lands | 1.9 | 3.759 |
| Sunday, April 15, 2012 | What is Dead May Never Die | 1.8 | 3.766 |
| Sunday, April 22, 2012 | Garden of Bones | 1.8 | 3.654 |
| Sunday, April 29, 2012 | The Ghost of Harrenhal | 1.9 | 3.903 |
| Sunday, May 06, 2012 | The Old Gods and the New | 2.0 | 3.879 |
| Sunday, May 13, 2012 | A Man Without Honor | 1.9 | 3.694 |
| Sunday, May 20, 2012 | The Prince of Winterfell | 2.0 | 3.864 |
| Sunday, May 27, 2012 | Blackwater | 1.6 | 3.384 |
| Sunday, June 03, 2012 | Valar Morghulis | 2.2 | 4.202 |
Not surprisingly, last week's "Blackwater" episode hit season lows it aired on a holiday weekend. I'd expect a rebound in the season finale, but will it set records?

Yes, of course we know that these ratings don't matter to HBO in the way that they matter for broadcast networks and advertising supported cable channels. HBO doesn't sell advertising so it really only cares about happy subscribers and luring more of them. And yes, of course we know that means HBO doesn't really care about how the premiere telecast of a particular episode fared. It cares more about all the aggregate viewing including DVR, encore telecasts and HBO Go.
But don't fool yourself: even for HBO the live plus same day ratings are a very good indicator for how things are going with a show. HBO doesn't need to wait to see all of the aggregate numbers to know that Game of Thrones is much more popular than Girls or Veep but still less popular among its subscribers than True Blood.
The poll is for entertainment purposes only. Besides, we'll see how the first telecast of the season finale by Tuesday. It'll be long after that (if ever) before we see the consolidated numbers including HBO Go.

2.1, 4m
No, I dont think it will beat 2.0. It’s a really bad show, it doesnt make much sense to me.
I love that the guy above me thinks it will not beat 2.0… because he doesn’t like it.
Yes it will. Because its an awesome show, and people now know that. Emmy’s for Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey!!
I think around 4.2-4.5m viewers, season 1 had a pretty big bump for finale.
the show makes a lot of sense to me, especially if you’ve read the books… Shows tend to make a lot of sense when you pay attention to the story line and characters. With that said I think it’ll beat 2.0
At first look, I thought that picture was of Luke Skywalker.
Not kidding here.
I think it will be about 2.2 great show and cant wait for the finale
I hope in 2.1
This show deserves an high rating!
It’s AMAZING!
Jon82728, your post doesn’t make much sense.
Glad that 2 of the best episodes (The Old Gods and the New/The North Remembers) have the highest ratings.
Your a day early with this poll.
2.1 and 4 million viewers.
@John A
Earlier posting= more page views= more money from advertisers. Think.
It was the 19th episode ratings that surprised me the most. “Black Water” is one of the most anticipated episodes of the season and also series. Ironically, it was the least rated episode of season 2. I don’t know how good it was promoted, but, there was a lot of hype around the episode.
Having said that, I can’t really guess how many viewers, can the finale attract.
@KS: Blackwater hitting season lows isn’t surprising at all. It surprises you only because there was no 3 day Memorial Day holiday weekend last week where you live.
The ratings will go up for the finale, but not massively. Since I’ve pretty much went from being a fan to a hater over the course of this season, I’d enjoy lower numbers, but that’s just not likely.
@AC75
Out of curiousity, what aspect of this show caused you to dislike it? I know a few people freaked out with the man on man loving in some scenes lol
Anyway predicting on or around 4 million for the finale.
@Lucas
Well this is the internet after all, where millions of people think personal opinion and object fact are the same thing.
This is the best show on cable, and Blackwater was a great episode! I hope lots of people who were too busy on the holiday saw a later showing, it was so terrific I watched it a second time later in the week and caught many details I had missed. It was like a movie, really awesome.
Almost 4 million subscribers watching plus others for later viewings and online should hopefully keep HBO producing this series for years to come. Peter Dinklage is wonderful, I hope he wins the Emmy again. The actress who plays Cersei was also good in this episode.
@Robert
Thanks for clarification. I guess this is the first post TVBTN, with the ratings of a show compiled. I hope we have more posts like this.
@Del
@Almost 4 million subscribers watching
Just to correct you, there isn’t 4 million actual people confirmed to be watching anything on American tv. These are figures generated from the 30,000 odd Nielsen households that make up the American ratings system.
Not nitpicking your comment or anything but suggest you, and everyone else understand that these aren’t actual people being tracked. It makes understanding the reported ratings easier.
