Definitions:
DVR (Time-shifted) Adults 18-49 Ratings – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs.
Live+Same Day(Live+SD) ratings include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing.
Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.
DVR Ratings Increase Past Airdate - How many people watched the show on their DVRs within 7 days following the airdate
Until the 2009-2010 season, we used a show's LIVE program rating or viewership as the base upon which the LIVE+7 day DVR viewing was added. Now, the press seems to be standardizing around using LIVE+SAME DAY DVR viewing as the base for the calculations, so that's what we do now as well.

Wow, Supernatural at 3rd position with 1.1 rating. Most consistent show on CW.
Go Grimm!
yes HIMYM
i expect a nice increase in fall.
Very nice, Grimm. People really came for the season finale.
I was hope for 3.0 for Bones. Oh well. 2.8 is still good, considering.
hey, do the seasonal ratings include these L+7D? i mean, they’ve been realeased long time ago.
GO GRIMM & Five-0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“hey, do the seasonal ratings include these L+7D? i mean, they’ve been realeased long time ago.”
Not for the week covered by this post. The last 2.5 weeks of ratings in the season averages we posted a while ago were (as noted in the post) Live + Same Day ratings.
i expected more for greys but hey i’ll take it. good for bones, himym
Do happy to see shows like Cougar Town, Nikita, HIMYM, Rules of Engagement and Scandal make the list! Can’t wait for them all to start back up. Too bad I’ll have to wait a long while for Cougar Town and most likely RoE as well.
But the good news is that Grimm starts early to hold me over!
I’m thrilled to see that the Grimm season finale had over 7,000,000 million viewers once you factor in the DVR ratings for the episode. I also find it pretty interesting that 18-49 demo for Grimm is just .1 lower than Smash’s demo ratings. I think that’s also kind of funny since NBC was really hoping that Smash was going to be their next big hit show. Also, the fact that the gap between the overall viewers for Smash and the overall viewers for Grimm is fairly narrow just blows my mind since Grimm is a Friday night show, at least I think the gap between the viewership for the two shows if fairly narrow.
I’m trying to turn my sister onto Grimm. But they are not showing the repeats in the order they were showed the first time. How do they expect to pick up new viewers when they don’t know what’s going on. She like the first show and was looking forward to the second, but it wasn’t the second one it was the 13th one.
Bones getting it’s normal numbers like it used to on Thursday so even though it seems like Monday was a bad move, I am just happy to see these DVR numbers work in its favor—let’s get 10 seasons Bones!!!!
Debsafan, both NBC.com and Hulu currently have every episode from season 1 of Grimm posted on their websites, so perhaps your sister could watch the episodes online. That way she can watch them in the order that they were originally aired.
Grimm’s live numbers went up significantly for the finale, and not surprisingly, its DVR numbers went down significantly as well. Its live finale was 1.6, up from a 1.2 the week before when Fringe had its finale, and from a spring average of 1.3. On the other hand, though it’s still in the top spot for % gain, its 69% is lower than what it usually gets, down from 92% the week before.
So there was a very definite shift from DVRing to live viewing. And I think Fringe finishing the week before had something to do with it. It’ll be interesting to see if Grimm’s live numbers go up once Fringe ends after 13 episodes next season. I think they will, which bodes well for Grimm to have a nice long career.
As for Supernatural, it will be interesting to see how much of its DVR numbers go live once it is moved off the Friday graveyard.
Are the Glee numbers a combination of the 2 episodes, or do the numbers just represent one of the 2 episodes that aired that night. I know that FOX separated them as 2 distinct episodes despite them being aired back to back, so wondering what the numbers represent.
Hi @Amanda, @Bill and @Robert, I have a suggestion to make. Why don’t you change the “Post Airdate % Viewership Increase from DVR Viewing” for the percentage the post airdate represents in the absolute viewership?
Example:
Modern Family-05/16 ABC 3.9 6.2 2.3 27% of the total viewership is post airdate, instead of the you used to 59%.
I just think it would be a more clear and interesting information (because I always have to calculate it myself in my head), but of course the ones that know that better is you, just wanted to put my two cents. Thanks!
I DVR most everything so I can skip commercials. Advertisers don’t care about me since I’m over 50 so no hard feelings I hope.
for those who haven’t seen grimm or missed a few episodes you can watch all of the season 1 episodes here. http://xfinitytv.comcast.net/tv/Grimm/143120/full-episodes#episode=TvEpisode-1523280
DAYUM for POI! It skyrockted in total viewers and increased their 18-49 demo. GO POI!
