NEW YORK – June 8, 2012 – Three championship events -- the Women’s French Open Final (9 a.m. ET), the Belmont Stakes (4:30 p.m. ET), in which I’ll Have Another will attempt to become the first horse in 34 years to win the Triple Crown, and Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final (8 p.m. ET), which can be won by the Los Angeles Kings, who lead the series 3-1 over the New Jersey Devils -- will all take place this Saturday on NBC, and will highlight a unique day in which NBC and the NBC Sports Network combine to provide 20 hours of live-event coverage.

This unique Championship Saturday when possible because I’ll Have Another won the first two legs of the Triple Crown, and when the Los Angeles Kings won three of the first four games of the Stanley Cup Final. Combined with the previously-scheduled Women’s French Open Championship, all three events provide a unique Championship Saturday for NBC and viewers.

In addition to the three championship events, NBC and NBC Sports Network will present: gymnastics, the Visa Championships from St. Louis, Mo. (1 p.m. ET, NBC); track and field, the Adidas Grand Prix from Randall’s Island in New York City (3 p.m. ET, NBC); and motorsports, Alli AMA Motocross from Mt. Morris, Pa. (5 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network) and IndyCar’s Firestone 550 from Texas Motor Speedway (8 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network).

In all, NBC will air 12 hours of live-event coverage, NBC Sports Network will televise five hours of live-event coverage, and both channels will combine for three hours of on-site pre- and post-event coverage.

NBCSports, particularly when covering women’s tennis, needs Martina Navrátilová as on court commentary. She’s great. Knows her stuff. And presents well. It was silly seeing her in the audience watching the French Open women’s finals instead of on camera commenting!
