New York, June 11, 2012 – Beginning this September, Joy Behar, Emmy® award winning talk show host, will make her return to primetime on Current TV’s new hour-long series. “The Joy Behar Show” (working title) will air nightly Monday through Thursday at 6pm and will repeat later the same evening in primetime. Featuring a regular rotating ensemble of journalists, analysts and political satirists the program will focus on political events, social issues and relevant topics that impact the American zeitgeist. Her ensemble cast, title and premiere date will be announced later this summer.

Though the show will not begin airing on Current TV until September, Behar will guest anchor a week on the network beginning June 18th while Governor Eliot Spitzer, host of “Viewpoint” will be on a scheduled summer vacation. “Joy Behar: One Week Only *Until the Fall” will air Monday through Friday that week at 8p ET/ 7p CT and will offer viewers a taste of her upcoming nightly show, featuring conversationswith a mix of journalists, newsmakers and celebrities.

“Joy Behar is a beloved veteran television personality with her finger on the pulse of what viewers care about,” commented Current TV Chairman and former Vice President Al Gore. “Millions of Americans tune in daily to hear her take on the issues along with her inimitable style. We are honored that Current TV will be Joy’s new primetime home.”

Behar is an award-winning talk show host, comedian, writer and actress. Since 1997, she has also been a co-host of the long-running “The View” and was host of “The Joy Behar Show” on HLN until late last year.

Behar got her start in show business in the early 1980s as a stand-up comedian. In 1987 she had a talk show on Lifetime Television called “Way Off Broadway.” From there she continued to work the comedy club circuit, was a regular on NBC's “Baby Boom,” and appeared in films including “Cookie,” “This is My Life” and “Manhattan Murder Mystery.”

In 1997 Behar became one of the original cast members of Barbara Walters's ABC television creation, “The View.” Beginning in 2007, she also occasionally filled in as a guest host on “Larry King Live.” On June 11, 2009, Behar announced that she would be hosting her own news and talk program on CNN's HLN beginning in the fall of 2009, titled “The Joy Behar Show.” She did not leave “The View,” but worked on both shows simultaneously. The final broadcast of the “The Joy Behar Show” was on December 15, 2011.

Now there is more than one person who has said “I want to be in the Joy Behar business”. Think about that, more than one!

  • Nick

Obviously The Joy Behar Show is hosted by Joy Behar. :-P

  • Karen C

    Ummmmm, WHY???????????????

  • The Original J

Gore continued with his praise of Behar, stating that “we’re excited about her ratings prospects. On some nights, we expect as many as two dozen people to tune in, which would double our average viewership.”

Taking the escalator to hell. Many people can’t even find Current TV. Good luck, Joy, and next time consider a radio show like Glenn (Mr $100Million over 5 years) Beck did.

  • Casey Abell

Okay, I’m not a news network junkie. But I honestly had no idea Joy Behar wasn’t on HLN any more.

Just one thing. How exactly does Current stay on the air? It doesn’t have a rich corporate parent to finance it. And when you’re averaging 25K/24K viewers prime time/total day, you can’t be making any money even if your payroll is next to nonexistent.

Will Dr Drew take her job on this channel too? Good for Joy, I`ve been a fan of her`s her first guest has to be Mario Cantone…so darn funny

  • AniMatsuri

Current seems to be the place where the CNN rejects go.

  • AppleStinx

CurrentTV goes green by recycling “talent”, of which there must be a very limited supply.
