The season five premiere of True Blood was watched by 5.2 million viewers, down 4% from last season's premiere, but up 3% from the season 4 finale. A total of 6.3 million viewers  watched one of the show's two airings on Sunday.

    @Holly – I find it completely bewildering as well.

    @Melisandre

    Ok then, whatever you say.

  • Danny

    Please, 4%? BIG DEAL! It was still a great show last night! :D While I will admit that this episode was not quite as exciting as the Season 4 premiere, they should just renew the show already since it obviously has a steady audience.. :P

    @Holly and Melisandre

    That was just a comparison not a rivalry. I don’t even watch True Blood. My poor memory of number of viewers led to some misunderstandings.

    Oh! I didn’t actually read comments on first page, before posting my previous comment. Yeah, its like Supernatural vs The Vampire Diaries rivalry, me and some other posters used to have a few months back on this website.

    I just don’t understood, what makes people so attracted to vampire movies and TV series so much more than any other genre shows and movies!

    I know this is not the place to ask this question. But, last time I checked NBC time table Grimm was on Friday and there was no change in its time slot next season. Then why does the official Facebook page of Grimm show that its on Monday and surprisingly starting from August 13th? Did I miss anything in the mean time?

    I was thinking it would have better numbers since those of us who can’t afford HBO were treated to a “free weekend” so I was able to watch it and I’m guessing lots of other people did, too. But then again, I watched a later airing of it since it coincided with The Killing season finale part 1 which I just couldn’t risk missing so there you go.

    Idk why people are hating on these ratings and viewership. Its the best HBO has. Its similar to everyone harping on IDOLS decline on FOX yet its the highest rated and most watched on the network. Unless it drops by 1 million viewers there really isnt anything to worry about.

    A lot of valid points were made especially xonsidering the budget for.TB must be much lower than GOT yet viewership is much higher. I like both shows so i hope both stick around for a while.

    Game of Thrones vs True Blood??? Where did that come from? Both shows are on the same network and not even on at the same time. Sounds like that one dude that bashes American Horror Story because he’s a Sons of Anarchy fan. WTF???

    Call Fringe division to explain this war between GoT and TB!??

    But, the rest of the episodes, had some 3 million plus viewers if I am not wrong. I don’t remember the exact numbers, but all I remember is 1-9 episodes had 3 million plus viewers. And this episodes got about 6 million plus viewers.

    Game of Thrones averaged 3.8 million viewers this season, for its initial airings.

    Comparing the numbers from one show’s initial airings to another’s aggregate for its first night is like comparing Live+SD to Live+7 and thinking you’ll end up with anything but garbage.

    Oh, and 6.2 isn’t even double 3.8 anyways…

    It will probably run Mondays at 10 (with encores Friday at 9), for the final four weeks of AGT, then move to Friday when The Voice & Revolution start.

    True Blood got 6m plus when you add in the repeat airing, Game of Thrones was getting around 5m when you factor in the repeat airing. Thats not double the ratings.

    Game of Thrones was boring in it’s second season. Dany’s story was uninteresting (all she did was run around whining about her dragons) as was Robb’s and the guy who plays Jon is a bad actor. Jaime spend most of the season sitting on his ass. I don’t expect this show to pick up viewers and increase it’s audience like True Blood did. I remember TB started with around 2 million viewers for it’s series 2 premiere and ended up near 5 mill for it’s series 2 finale, unlike GOT which stayed stable around 3.8 mill for almost the entire series.

    TB however has become stale these days. There are like a 100 characters with individual stories and really bad dialogue. They have trashed their mythology and stories don’t make sense anymore. I watch mainly for the pretty people. No thinking required to watch this mindless entertainment unlike for GOT. I expect the ratings to go down this season and keep going down.

  • Paul Meinhold

    I find that strange as this Seasons Premiere was way way beter than last seasons.

  • Mezeh

    This is TV by numbers site and it is really easy to check how many viewers each show had. TB still has 20-25% more then GOT yet GOT only finished its second season and could grow more in the next while TB could go only down.

  • KS

    @Ultima

    I don’t actually remember the numbers and I never used to follow the ratings of GOT properly. It will be renewed for 5 more seasons, beyond doubt. Actually I am surprised to see that, True Blood has more viewers than Game of Thrones, which is considered to be the best show on TV by critics.

    Thanks for the clarification about Grimm, BTW.

    It was the best premiere so far! So happy I love this show sooooo much!!! True blood forever!!!

  • Truebloodlover27

    True blood season 4 DVD sold 750,000 DVDs (just DVD not blu ray) in just 1 week!!! The show is not going anywhere anytime soon it’s still supremely huge so haters need to hush!!! FYI GOT sold 870,000 DVDs in 13 weeks do the math hahaha
