At least most of the numbers are trending in the right direction….. I think the shows would gain viewers if they would learn how to speed up the shows. I’m not saying the storylines have to be resolved sooner — just mix up the dialogue to make it “seem” like things are moving along at a faster pace. I’ve said this before — our lives move at a blinding speed, and then to try and watch one of these shows that is bogged down in endless, repetitive conversations is exhausting to me. They could do this in the 60′s, 70′s, and 80′s when there were basically only 3 channels to watch — but now we have at least 300 channels to choose from. Y&R is the MASTER of “slowness”. They can have 7 scenes between 2 characters in one episode discussing nothing more important than the weather. It’s ridiculous and viewers are just not “glued” to the shows anymore especially when there is so much more television to chose from. Also, soaps have to explain everything to death to the viewers as if we are too dumb to understand it the first time (again bogging down). New writing techniques have got to be introduced to these shows if they are to survive….

I read that networks only care about the ratings in the 18-49 age group. If this is true not good for GH. I use to watch GH on a regular bases but haven’t watched now in several weeks.

So happy Days ratings went up! Days is awesome and I never miss an episode! Hoe to see an EJ/Sami romance soon!
    Go Days!

  • scott

I guess people like seeing stefano dead for what is this the 12th time?

  • Joe

    Glad for y&R and DAYS!!!!

Go Days! They had 2 big bumps last week and this week. We know they are also working on the 18-49 demo by focusing on the younger crowd more. With so many exits announced though (Lexie, Jack, Austin, Carrie, Madison, Ian, Melanie and Bo) one has to wonder who they are bringing back to fill all these voids.

If Days wants to capitalize on these ratings bumps, they really need to hurry and snag the awesome Eileen Davidson (who is off Y&R) to return from the ‘dead’ as the popular Kristen Dimera (and some Susan Banks on the side). She has been presumed dead for 14 years and what a great promotional story they could run focusing on her return.

Also bring back original Belle & Shawn (Kirsten Storms and Jason Cook) who are both off GH. These 3 returns would bring more people back if they are featured in some great stories. Word is they are also recasting Eric Brady (formerly played by Jensen Ackles).

Days has been such a chore to watch. The most boring Mystery ever and another teen psycho story.
I’ve been watching since 1980 and the people at NBC obviously don’t know what they are doing.
I’ll miss Peter Reckell. Ashame the powers that be don’t have enough sense to keep some of the good characters.
How about letting the good guy win occasionally????

  • Grey

It probably did so well because it’s the only day time soap that’s left (said with sarcasm).

I’m still not all that familiar with DAY’s history but it doesn’t sound good that they have “let go” alot of the characters that I thought were the heart of this show. You can certainly bring in some new characters without having to ax everyone else. I can’t imagine DAYS without Bo or Stefano. Would they have fired Miss Reid at this point if she were still alive? Here’s apparantly a new concept shows: WRITE INTERESTING AND THOUGHT PROVOKING STORIES FOR ALL YOUR CHARACTERS and guess what, people will tune in to watch regardless of how old they are or how long they’ve been with the show.

People need to give gh a chance they are not watching its actually a great show people just need to watch more and no it’s not a one life to live neither I’m glad they are merging the shows keep up gh I’m going to always ride with gh it’s the bomb

I wonder where OLTL would be story and ratings wise if they were still on the air. I have been sampling the rest of daytime (not GH) for 5 months now and NOTHING has even begun to interest me the way OLTL did during their last 13 months or so. (Why didn’t I watch sooner?) I don’t know exactly why it worked for me, but it just did. The stories were just so damn interesting and they weren’t afraid to let the long term actors have their own stories either. Most of the reason for me was that the show just stayed so familiar to itself through its characters. Because long term characters (Viki, Dorian, Todd and Todd 2, Blair, Tea, John, Natalie, Jessica, Marty, Kelly, Starr, Bo, Nora) were on constantly and UP FRONT in compelling stories, I just couldn’t get enough. I also didn’t necessarily see something coming a mile away before it actually showed up on screen either. That’s good writing. For me it simply had everything that I needed to be able to “tune in tomorrow”. What I’m “trying” to watch now is NOT giving me that tune in tomorrow feeling, and when you don’t feel that, daytime is not doing its job well.

None of the demo ratings are all that great, even Y&R. I wonder what it was getting at its peak?

  • dang

Y&R is improving days is good i just wish that the gabby story would go GH is a mess nobody don’t like Ron recycling stories like the d.i.d. im tired of seeing kelly sulivan crying every scene she a good actress bb it o.k. it not all of that i get tired of the liam hope and steffy it should be the whole cast but only them

  • dang

i just hope days can get all the behind the scene drama too stop it not good for the show ken corday need too have a long meeting with the HW they need too get it together im tired of hearing all these people leaving

  • Glen

GH gained more than 1.2 million viewers from its horrific lead-in. It was also the only ABC series to show an increase from the previous week.

    JR’s Post:

“None of the demo ratings are all that great, even Y&R. I wonder what it was getting at its peak?”

The highest rating I see for Y&R is an 8.8 in the 1979-80 Season. Back then GH ruled the roost with a 9.9 Rating (About 10.5 Million viewers per episode). It seems amazing, but remember we only had a few channels to choose from.

  • Scandalfan

It’s pretty obvious GH is not GH anymore it is now turning into OLTL part 2 the story lines are almost the same. The OLTL producers fired some of the GH cast to make place for the OLTL characters and crew and that pisses me off I’m no longer watching the show. Too bad!

As for B&B I’m reading to give up on that scrap show if Liam doesn’t mary hope and gets back with Steffy can’t stand her.

  • Darcy

I think the reason GH ratings are so bad is because RC is doing the same storylines he did on OLTL. RC is also putting the OLTL characters on more storylines than the GH characters. I don’t like the crossover of OLTL and that is the reason I’m no longer watching GH. It is sad to see this happen to GH.

  • Jack

GH is atrocious. It is now futher entrenched in last place. I hate Starr Manning. I didn’t like her even when she was on OLTL and I find her so irritating, I want to sock her. Y&R is getting on my nerves. Do the writers smoke dope all day long? Now there are 3 kids who added 10 years.

  • maria

Gh just sucks! I have tried to watch but goodness that DID storyline, kristina reality show, johnny being with carly and he was with lulu back in the day, the bad acting, and keeping anna for no reason. Then list goes on the only bright spot is todd and if they can some how put him with the Edward for a storyline i might just tune in. But i dont get how gh would fire a sorry writer in guza he destroyed my fav couple sonny and brenda only to replace him with writers who show got canceled and now is actually recycling the storylines they were writing on oltl. Well if its cancel i just hope they give sonny and brenda a happy ending
