Love it that my forever fave, Days, is rising! Go DOOL!!! I agree that I’d like to see Kayla given more focus and a good storyline. I wish that Steve would come back and join her.

I hate to see Peter Reckell leave as I adore Bo and Hope. I sure hope that Stefano rises again before long as I adore his character as well.

Hope that Jennifer sticks around too as I’ve always loved her too.

Please bring back Caliope Jones and Eugene Bradford…now there’s a one-of-a-kind quirky, whacky much-beloved couple!

    Go days!

  • Kayla Rae

I agree…I cannot watch GH anymore…it just isn’t worth watching anymore and hasn’t been for some time.

DAYS is by far my fave and my continued allegiance is with this soap…I’ve watched it from the very beginning.

    Go DAYS!!!

I’m officially done with GH. It’s painful and a real shame to see what’s happened to this show. It’s supposed to be GH, not OLTL. The show is downright horrendous.

Honestly, how many characters and recycled storylines from OLTL do we need at the expense of our show? I just don’t understand the fascination with RC and FV, who are very overrated IMO. It’s as if they can’t let go of their former show. Are these shows capable of any kind of fresh material anymore? Baby switches/DID? Really? No wonder why this genre is in such bad shape.

Whatever happened to romance and a little humor? Does everything have to be so dark, depressing, and gothic? Who wants to see that every day? I sure don’t.

  • robert sprague

i agree i dont know why abc is letting the new writers use the same old storyline one life to live used for gh . kate is boring and the storyline is boring .like i said erika sleazak was brillant at the storyline no one else can do it like her. krista and star is boring.is abc trying to cancell the show.the only good thing about the show is heather felicia anna luke tracy alexis and micheal.wheres edward and monica. and for the 300th time where the hell is bobbi lissen up abc let get with it jackie zeman we want.

  • Morrison

WOW! When was the last time all four soaps were good at the same time and doing this well in the ratings in a summer month?

Y&R which had been the worst soap for a while now has been watchable lately and now got revenge week for Phyllis’ character.

B&B has the big annoying Hope & Liam wedding in Italy but its been real good with Bill trying to use Steffy and Deacon to end it.

GH has been really good with Sam’s baby stuff.

DAYS which had been boring for the longest time has finally gotten their act together with Stefano’s death, Gabbi’s stalker, and now the most emotional scene were going to experience next week with Lexie dying in Abe’s arms.

Must see television for all four soaps next week!

  • Joe

LOVE DAYS, happy to see the ratings reflect how good its been lately.

  • BA

I don’t see how days is gettin a rise in ratings. The storylines are horrible right now. It’s just boring as of late. Half of their characters are leaving soon and it’s just gonna get worse if they can’t come up with some kind of original storylines instead of stupid kidnapping stories with the useless Gabi character at the forefront.

  • Lion King

    GO DAYS GO DAYS!

  • Mk

Way to go DAYS. POSSES MARLENA AND kidnap Hope n u the ratings will be high. Oh and wake JAN SPEARS up and team her up with NICOLE N shawn should comeback to town….y’all knw JAN’S OBSESSION WIT shawn. And bring back the LOCKHARTS…. Patrick 4 HOPE, mimi n Rex reunion wit Brady eyeing Mimi…. Bonnie and maggie fight over old mickey.

This is basically to MBMom since she was the one that challenged me. But anyway MBMom I did it. I successfully went to You Tube and ABC.com and I watch 2 straight weeks of GH.

And all I can tell you is that now that I have watched full episodes it didn’t achieve your goal. In fact it made me feel so disconnected from my GH that I just don’t have much passion for the show at all. Not even enough that if you notice I haven’t even wanted to or cared to comment in this weeks ratings thread.

I just feel the GH I loved is completely gone now. I don’t recognize anything about it anymore. And I have so many questions about the show and stuff that doesn’t make sense.

First off all these women want Luke now but the only question I have is why? Luke used to be one of my favorite characters, but Guza and Wolfe have done so much damage to the man and I don’t see anything that Ron C. has done to fix him but yet I am supposed to believe these women find him so desirable. I have loved Luke in the past with so many different women but in the last 2 years I just find him disgusting in that sense. And just the way he has been painted I sure hope that Anna makes sure he gets tested for sexually transmitted diseases before she sleeps with him.

Second Kelly Sullivan is terrbible. She just makes me laugh with some of her over the top acting and histrionics. I thought the scenes of her going through her rape were laughable. The writing, direction and acting were so bad. Another thing I couldn’t figure out in some of it was why Pregnant Connie, the 17 year old one back in Bensonhurst, didn’t speak with an accent — but Evil Connie, who is living and functioning in the present, does. That really confused me. And something obviously that the director overlooked.

I have a feeling already that the director guy will be the child she gave birth to. Such a cliche and so evident.

I hate the reality show stuff. Such a bad story. And the two young girls supposed to carry the show this summer — Starr and Kristina — are such terrible characters but it doesn’t help that neither actress could act their way out of a paper bag.

The baby switch stuff is terrible. I do not like Tea, she just comes off as an uncaring b*tch to me. I don’t know her so I have no feelings about her baby. Jason hasn’t cared for his child at all, and has been so cruel to Sam for so long. So I can’t muster up any sympathy for him losing his child. But the writers keep writing it like I should or like they are trying to make me. And I hate they are using Elizabeth to be his biggest supporter in the way they are. I know they have history together but it seems all they ever use Elizabeth for is to be the cheerleader for Jason. She deserves a lot more than that.

And I am so tired of them teasing Jason & Elizabeth when you know they are just going to go back to Sam and Jason in the end. Its time they let Jason and Elizabeth move on from one another.

I also hated the John/Sonny/John’s sister stuff. It just felt like an egg was laid there. Just in what I watched of it there seemed to be more to it and then after it was revealed it was just like “is that all”.

Todd I still don’t know what to think about this guy. I don’t find anything likable in it at all. Heather as I have said — the only thing workable with her is Robin Mattson’s portrayal. As far as what she does I don’t understand her motives at all. They are so superficial even for a woman who is off her rocker.

And finally for my favorite new character in years, I hate what they have done to Johnny. I don’t even recognize him at all anymore. I feel like he is not long for the show because I don’t see how they can keep him around. He has killed and taken advantage of a woman with a mental illness — there is just nothing likable about him anymore at all.

I hate the new camera angles being used and so much about the way the show is filmed now. It looks like something a crew from a local college would do. Nothing like the GH I used to know and love. I hate the music being used now. To me this just isn’t GH at all.

It is a completely new show. And just makes me realize the GH I knew and loved is gone. Glad for you that seem to enjoy the new show, but the new show is not for me. So as of this week I have just basically moved on. I know that at this point with these new folks in charge the show I loved is never coming back. And that has just made me so sad the last few days that I just haven’t had a care about what their ratings were this week.

  • Chris B

Richard talks about how horrible Kelly Sullivan is as Kate, yet a lot of the soap press and fans have been impressed with her, especially her performance on Friday when she went back to her childhood and remembered being raped, that caused to have a baby. Emmy winning.

Check out this great article on this past weeks GH

  • Ron C.

Ron C. here Chris B’s alter from his DID suffering. I am so sorry that we do not write Luke the way Richard wants him to be written. I guess the show needs to be cancelled now, since it isn’t the GH Richard wants it to be. Oh yea sorry again Richard that we fired the music people, wow they should have cancelled us immediately after we did that

  • Ron C.

Oh yes we changed the way we shoot the camera angles, we should have been cancelled before I even became head writer. Poor Richard, never met someone so filled with so much negaitvity. You can tell he watched those Youtube episodes looking for something to criticize, does not surprise me. But again GH should be cancelled and others should not be allowed to enjoy it because it’s not the GH Richard wants it to be!

    Just a drive-by posting…

Sean…you can watch GH as many times as you want either on TV or the internet (either with the commercials or fast-forwarding thru them), but it isn’t going to ‘help’ GH in the ratings unless a person is a Nielsen ‘family’. If you (Sean) want to do that, you are more than welcome to, but don’t try and ‘guilt’ people into following your lead in the hopes of ‘saving’ GH from being canceled.

To the person who said that GH was the only ABC Daytime series to show improvement from the previous week, is incorrect. “The Chew” had 2.08 million compared to 2.07 million the previous week. According to my math, that is an increase of 10,000 viewers. It is an inconsequential gain, but it is still a gain (just 7,000 fewer viewers than GH gained).

I have some beefs to pick with “Days” and Y&R. When did Sharon and Nikki become mortal enemies on Y&R? Their ‘romp’ in the barn on Friday looked like something you would see back in the ’80s on “Dynasty”. I will admit to being on ‘Team Sharon’, as Nikki tends to be a little self-righteous considering she is a gold-digging ex-stripper. On “Days”, I thought that Chad did not like his biological family – the DiMeras – and now that Stefano is dead is all of a sudden overcome with grief and vows revenge against Stefano’s arrested ‘murderer’ Will, whose guilt is questionable. This goes back to the writing, but it seems like a whole host of soap characters act completely out of character (such as Sharon and Chad) and make those characters laughing stocks as a result.

  • JayTN

Richard…I agree with your opinions on Tea and the John McBain/Sonny storyline. I did not like Tea when she was on OLTL…never liked her, really. She comes across as a know-it-all bully who just bulldozes people who oppose her. Like OLTL’s Todd, she behaves in a fashion where it is okay for her to do something, but not okay for someone else to do the same thing to them. I would love for Krystina’s legal eagle mom (can’t remember the character’s name) to just wipe the courtroom floor with the over-rated Tea. I don’t know what the poor people in Llanview are doing for legal advice, since Tea must have been the town’s only lawyer, as many times as she darkened the doors of the courthouse.

The new and ‘improved’ backstory for John McBain, tying him to Sonny seems like nothing more than a vehicle to tie the two characters together, and to justify McBain’s attitude toward Sonny and keep him – McBain – around Port Charles, since he doesn’t seem to being doing anything else.

  • Diana

Richard I do have to agree with you on alot that you said about GH. I have also quit watching GH. I don’t like the Jason/Sam/baby story. I wanted Jason and Sam to have a baby together and enjoy the birth of their child. I don’t like that the writers gave us another sad baby death story. I think Jason and Sam have lost so much already they should get some happiness, but since this isn’t going to happen. I called it quits on GH as of the first of May. I have been reading the daily recaps to see if I want to start watching again and so far that isn’t going to happen.

  • Melanie

I agree with some of you all about the current state of GH, it has pretty much has ended for me too, sadly. It is so unwatchable to me now, so I won’t even bother to explain anymore.

@Jay, On Y&R Sharon and Nikki have never been “buddy, buddy” ever since she started getting involved with Nicholas back in the early 90′s. At that time, I felt Nikki looked down on Sharon and maybe viewed her as a golddigger because she came from a single mother raising her and then had her daughter Cassie out of wedlock, but then, the Newmans all loved Cassie very much and Sharon and Nikki would just “tolerate” each other. I do not like Sharon and Victor together at all! I used to like Sharon because she came to town as the “girl next door” who “fell in love with the rich boy, Nicholas” and I thought that was a sweet and nice love story, but over the years, they have turned her into someone who comes off as a little desperate and always has to have a man in her life. I don’t like that the writers made her that way. Nikki, has always been overprotective of Victor and has had issues with all the other women he has been involved with, but this irks her even more with Sharon because he is the grandfather of her kids. That is certainly and ick factor going on there, LOL.

  • Mike

Well I’m one who is loving the “new show”. The “old show” was obviously not bringing in any new viewers. As a matter of fact, we left in droves. Many of us long time GH fans who stopped watching the “old show” only returned because we knew a “new show” was coming. It’s working for me because regarless of how characters actions have changed from what we’d seen in the past, bottom line is the show is highly entertaining. I still see more airtime for the old GH characters than the transitioned OLTL characters. Based on this weeks ratings, more people watched GH this week than last week and also more watched this year than last year. More people are tuning in than tuning out. If this growth trend slowly continues, GH will be around longer. If you are not being entertained, then it make perfect sense you stop watching. I lost complete interest in GH about 2 years ago right before the murder of Claudia Zacharra. The times I tuned in over the next couple of years, I saw nothing of interest. Nothing that made we want to come back the next day. Based on some comments I read on blogs over those years, lots of people were not liking what was happening on GH.

Now for me and more people than last week and last year, GH is must see TV.

Thank you to all the folks at GH for making those of us that are loving what you do want to see what’s coming next!!!!

  • Richard

Mike, The only thing is those more people you are talking about are not in the desired demo needed to save GH. They lost viewers in both the 18-49 and the 18-34. Unless they can get those viewers back they won’t get renewed. And they are down in both of those from last year too. total viewers just means that either more people under 17 or over 50 are watching, and advertisers just don’t care about those sadly.

At this point I don’t really care, but for those of you who want the show saved boasting about total viewers is okay but it is not going to save the show.

The report last week at SON who is usually right about stuff like this says that this year the advertising rates that GH can charge went way down due to the 18-49 being down.

  • Richard

Great posts Jay, Diana, and Melanie.

Melanie, I know how you feel. I have never felt this uncaring toward GH. I faithfully watched the show for so long, but now I just don’t even care to fight for it anymore. It is just not worth it and not even worth it to express how you feel anymore.
