Among adults 18-49, Falling Skies earned a 1.5 rating, which is down from last year's 2.0 premiere rating.  Our polled readers were too optimistic in their predictions. Blame Lebron?

I watched The Killing and then switched to the NBA. I will catch up on Falling Skies later this week.

@Jordan, no argument from me there. but if the finale scores a 1.8-1.9 vs. the premiere’s 1.5 I’d be prone to attributing an NBA effect to last night’s results.

  • rmoats8621

I loved last night’s episodes. This show has such promise. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s going to happen next Sunday. :-)

And GOT has more competition and got higher ratings in the demo. If people want to watch the show, they will. Competition excuses are weak and that’s my point. True Blood get almost a 3.0 in the same Falling Skies timeslot during the summer. So obviously you can get the rating. It’s down because its down. More likely because the show doesn’t get great buzz and dropped most of last season until the finale. Shows with bad buzz go down some. The genre shows with great buzz like GOT, TB and TWD all went up the second season. But it’s still a solid hit.

  • Dennis

Still a massive hit, right now a 3rd season is very likely

  • jordan

    @Robert

I really don’t think it was down because of the NBA. Most genre hits on cable have not been hurt by sports. Maybe a 1.6 or 1.7. I don’t think it will go as high as you say. That was last season and I think this show is cooling off some because it doesn’t have much buzz. Plus if we’re going on your theory of excuses, I think the finale goes up against the Olympics? You can tell me if I’m wrong about that one or not.

  • jordan

It’s easy to get renewed on cable. It’s definitely a hit. Massive hit? Definitely untrue. Massive is The Walking Dead and True Blood.

  • Jesse

Failing Skies is the cream of mediocrity.

  • Drew Shelstud

At least the budget seems to have been a bit bigger. So far not a huge fan, but what other alien invasion show do I have? None. The canceled “Sanctuary” which was decent enough. Plus I love me Some Tapping.

  • Coffee Steve

NBA Game hurt the numbers, wonder how many DVR’d it?

  • Moose

With the obscene number of commercials they shove in this thing, I am surprised the ratings are as high as they are. IMO, the only way to watch this show without getting bored to tears, is via DVR, VCR etc.

It would also help if the adult characters in this series didn’t come off as complete morons. The writers of this crapfest need to watch a bunch of old war movies, because the survival tactics they have written for these characters in this series are unbelievably bad.

  • Fennerbender

1.5 so about what I expected, but not as well as I would have wished. Yes Walking Dead and others do pull better numbers against more competition, but Summer is a much, much harder season to get eyes on TV especially 18-49 eyes. Its called Summer and it has its own rules. Even the best summer shows are in this neighborhood.

  • Dennis

It is still a huge hit, and a 3rd season is more then likely going to happen, but, just wondering how the low it would have to fall to get cancelled?

  • KarenM

I must be in the minority but Leverage hasn’t had a good season since season one. I dumped it. It’s shameful because of the great cast but why do they want to pair them off?

ITA that FS is mediocre but most things on TV are below mediocre so not bad.

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Robert Seidman

@jordan: good point. indeed, assuming no weeks off and a two hour finale it will go against the Olympics and it will have to contend with the Olympics the week before the finale too. It would have to have a scheduled week off AND a one hour finale for the finale to completely dodge the Olympics.

  • still good shows on tv

Falling Skies is a great show.

  • Dillan

I was expecting higher, but with the competition, its still good ratings.

  • Pamela

I really liked the premiere episode and am happy it got solid ratings and hope this stays as the season goes on.. Was this already renewed for season 3?
I also thought the special -effects improved alot and liked that it was more action-packed and suspenseful !
I lime Tom and Anne together and wanted to see a little kiss LOL but still it was a great episode and very much like a rollercoaster ride in the works :-)

  • rob60990

Wow I guess my expectations were a bit high. It did fine though.

  • FattyMcFatso

I wasn’t sure what to expect with Falling Skies, but 1.5 isn’t bad at all. If the numbers dip there might be something to worry about, but the show had a loyal following last season and so I’m not expecting that to happen. The show itself is neither totally good or totally bad. It feels exactly the same as it did last year. I don’t expect a revolt.
