Sunday Cable Ratings: 'BET Awards' + 'True Blood', European Football, 'Keeping Up With the Kardashians', 'Real Housewives of NJ' & More

The BET Awards was Sunday's number one cable program, with a 3.2 adults 18-49 rating. True Blood came in second, with a 2.6 adults 18-49 rating, even with last week

We only receive the top 100 cable shows for adults 25-54 for the whole day from our principal source. If you don’t see an original episode of a show here, it’s because it wasn’t in the top 100.

The list below is long but you can use your browsers "find on page" feature (usually CTRL+F or CMD+F) to search - that's probably the easiest way to find Falling Skies.

UPDATED: Tons more weekend ratings data below the table. Thanks to commenter Nick!

    @Chris
    I love Aaron Sorkin (specially the west wing, social network and obviously Sportnight) but this time he’s too overindulgent and the characters are unbelieavable (specially Emily mortimer’s) But I will give a season a chance…what about you?

  • dgh

    I’d like to meet a Nielson family(if they exist)just to smack them upside the head for what they make America watch. Plus why hasn’t a new system been put in place yet? With all the digital boxes out there it shouldn’t be that difficult to add more families to the mix but I’m sure there are forces working against anything that might even the playing field.

  • The End

    @dgh

    To be fair, it’s a shame the technology hasn’t been integrated into everyones set top boxes.

    Less than 50,000, which I believe is closer to 30,000 households at present decide what is cancelled or renewed in America.

    No one wants to make the effort to develop a system that tracks everyone, because Nielsen provides a breakdown on virtually everything about who in their small sample size is watching what.

    I personally want a system that tracks any and all viewers. Even if it means lots of shows end up being cancelled. It would be nice to come on here and discuss numbers that have been generated by actual viewers lol.

  • joss

  • Steve-A

    @dgh. No one forces you to watch anything. Turn the channel.

  • The End

    @Steve-A

    You’ve missed his point entirely.

  • Nick

    How To Rock did fantastic. 8 Weeks without a new episode. Limited promotion. Still did 2.83 million. That is great. Nickelodeon needs to pick it up for a 2nd season now.

  • Chris

    @TheKillingRocks–I intend to keep watching The Newsroom for now, though probably just via OnDemand. I don’t hate it, but it just seems to me the ideas being put forth deserve a far better presentation than they’re getting–in other words, this is nowhere NEAR the best version of the argument.

    I like Emily Mortimer and Alison Pill. They deserve a better show than this as well. But I’ll keep watching. For now.

    Nothing could ever induce me to watch “The Killing” again, though.

    ;)

  • Holly

    @dgh,

    According to Craig Engler (of Syfy who writes on ratings issues occasionally), while a large percentage of TV viewers have digital boxes, integrating all the different software used is much more involved and difficult than it seems at first blush and with the cable/satellite/telco companies resistant to cooperation that doesn’t seem likely to advance anytime soon. So, separate boxes for measurement are still needed. Aside from that, compiling and analyzing data from all those extra viewers would involve a bigger infrastructure than Nielsen probably has right now.

    And The End is right: no one wants to pay for all the upgrades necessary to make something like that happen.

  • JustTunedIn

    How many Nielsen Viewers are in the 18-49 range?

    I understand that Nielsen rating for 18-49 means something like a 1.0 means 1% of the 18-49 Nielsen demographic (Nielsen demographic as in people with Nielsen boxes) watched the show, which is used to estimate 1% of the overall US 18-49 TV watching demographic watched the show.

    So, how large though IS the 18-49 Nielsen demographic? This topic always comes up for fringe audience shows (Not “Fringe”, but fringe, as in not general public – I’m asking as a fan of Falling Skies). I did try to search for the Nielsen 18-49 Demographic size (not US 18-49, just Nielsen Viewers who are 18-49). I think statistics of Nielsen watchers is very interesting, but it would help to know what the sample size is.

  • peter

    Amazing ratings for EURO 2012.

    Redneck Island keeps rising in the demo.

    Falling Skies is still doing good but it needs to stop falling. TNT should move the show to 10pm to get away from True Blood.

  • peter

    Does anyone have the ratings for the All-Star Lacrosse game Saturday 7:30 PM on ESPN2?

  • AlcoholicsAnonymous

    First of all, I hate you Disney Channel vs Nickelodeon commenters on this page.

    Falling Skies is doing great still compared to other TNT shows they have on now (minus Rizzoli & Isles, TNT’s #1 show).

    Weeds premiere is awful. Last season right?

    The Newsroom got renewed as any other HBO show would get renewed for a 2nd season. It’s always the 2nd season that gets the fate of continuing or not. See ‘Rome’.

    Keeping Up with the Kardashians got a 1.4? You can tell that audience switched over to BET Awards that night. Yikes.

  • The End

    @JustTunedIn

    I don’t think anyone knows exactly how many Nielsen households fall into the 18-49 demographic, not even networks, most of us know roughly how many Nielsen households are out there but specific people exactly that’s anyones guess.

    Especially as you need to enter the data of who in the household is watching what, i.e age and gender etc.

    And we know the sample size for number of households.

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Robert Seidman

    Nielsen estimates the size of the US population (homes, people age 2+, 18-49, 18-34, etc) their panel sample projects out to those universe estimates. At least as of last night the size of the panel was:

    19,404 households
    48,749 P2+
    21,133 P18-49
    11,101 P18-34
    20,567 P25-54

  • scifi

    If Falling Skies will not be renewed this week, it is canceled.

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Robert Seidman

    @scifi: nonsense. It’s not going to be renewed this week unless there is a late announcement today. On an equivalency to last year basis it would be renewed on Monday 7/9, but if that doesn’t happen it’s still foolish to read that as any definitive indicator, and really, really foolish if it pulls another 1.2 on Sunday.

  • Nick

    I know this isn’t the place, but what happened to the comments on the old posts? I was looking at the summer premiere dates list and I can’t comment. Can someone explain this to me?

  • cimmer

    FS is still dropping? It’s still okay I think because of the Spielberg name but if it drops to 1.0 or below then it’s entering dodgy territory I think.

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Robert Seidman

    @Nick: it’s because we usually have comments close automatically for posts older than 30 days to reduce spam. they should be open again on that post now.
