ANOTHER DAYTIME TALK SHOW!!!!!!! REALLY?!!!!! Bring back the soaps… All My Children, One Life to Live, As the World Turns, Guiding Light, Passions. Hard to believe that in 2008 there were 9 soaps and in 2012 there are 4. WOW. and nothing but garbage has replaced them.

  • RJ

The ratings are down. Move on.

  • MBmomof3

    Thank you, Brad.

@Katie…BOOOOO! Oh, I mean BOOOOORING!!!!! Please go away.

  • Pat

    @ Brad

None of those cancelled soaps are ever coming back anywhere. It does not make economic sense for anyone. They’re very expensive to produce, the ratings were far down, they skewed too old, and they no longer brought in the ad revenue that they once did. I agree that there are too many talk shows and I’d like to see a little more variety in the replacement programming (a couple of game shows, perhaps) but it’s not the fault of Katie or any other host that daytime soaps are an antiquated, dying genre.

  • Anna

@ Brad Talk shows are cheaper to produce. If soaps were still getting high ratings, they wouldn’t be getting cancelled.

Blame TPTB at the soaps. The writing just keeps getting worse and worse, imo.

  • Brad(LateNightCommenter)

Ratings are down all across television.

Soap Operas will come back once there is a flood of talk shows. Just wait

  • Jake

    Soaps are dead.

  • Dizzy

Don’t be naive soaps will comeback strong one of these days. This genre never dies plus the last four soaps are hanging in there ratings wise. Somebody will get it figured out how to make the genre successful again. Not sure if that will be in daytime or not.

  • TN

Soaps have some really bad acting, but they might revive, but some talk shows are indeed garbage, we’ll see how Katie will fare.

  • James

    Horrible promo…

  • Luke

Jeff Zucker is resurfacing again? Hasn’t he done enough with running NBC to the ground?

  • Jason

If this talk show bombs along with The Chew and General Hospital, this could be the last straw for ABC. I still think they should do family-friendly game shows, something like what Nickelodeon was in their heyday, or better yet, don’t get the usual suspects to host a talk show and get a rock singer who doesn’t do much touring and have him or her make it an all entertainment and music variety talk show. Remember Mike Douglas?

  • Melanie

@Jason, I agree. Daytime soaps are slowly on their way out and there are just way too many talk shows. I would love to see some game shows if they need replacements.

  • Jason

    @Melanie, now you’re talking!

If anyone wants to get ABC to air game shows instead, let them speak now, and direct their comments at ABC themselves. They may have a change of heart.

  • Dontryl Alexander

@Jason, I seriously agree to this. We want game shows back on network
    TV, especially the Pyramid!

  • Max

Jeff Zucker again? I hope he learned what not to do this time, after he ruined NBC.

  • MBmomof3

I hope Jeff Zucker does for Katie and ABC what he did for NBC.

I would also like to see a game show instead of this non-stop talk fest that ABC has become. The only thing I watch on ABC is General Hospital. I don’t see that changing. Ever! And don’t say I’m some delusional soap fan. I’m an admitted soap fan who knows soaps aren’t coming back due to their high cost/low return. At least to daytime. Look at Dallas :)
