Due to its time slot we don't usually  report the numbers for MSNBC’s new show, Cycle, but it scratched (audience failed to meet minimum Nielsen reporting levels) in the demo on Thursday with only 50,000 in adults 25-54.   It was not only the lowest demo in all of MSNBC’s programming for the entire 24 hours but it was Cycle’s lowest demo since it debuted about two weeks ago.  The only show that did worse (excluding CNBC) in the demo on Thursday was CNN’s Early Start with 49,000.

    Good Saturday Morning

    *Putin’s July 4th Message

    Russian nuclear-capable bombers intercepted near West Coast in second U.S. air defense zone intrusion in two weeks

    The U.S. defense official called the latest Bear H incident near the U.S. West Coast “Putin’s Fourth of July Bear greeting to Obama.”

    Retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney, a former Alaska commander for the North American Aerospace Defense Command, said the latest Bear H intrusion appears to be Russian military testing.

    “It’s becoming very obvious that Putin is testing Obama and his national security team,” McInerney told the Free Beacon. “These long-range aviation excursions are duplicating exercises I experienced during the height of the Cold War when I command the Alaska NORAD region.

    @Twins Fan
    Sorry, that was meant for Hilbilly :-)

    @Hillbilly
    I can’t take that bet, you know how much I love calling names and making people go crazy with my you did this, you did that” lines. :mrgreen:

    Ok, now this is getting ridiculous, I have more work. I was near starvation and homelessness a year ago. I am going to need a vacation if this keeps up.
    I am going to have to start paying my cousin rent!!!! I hope he doesn’t want the back rent. I’ll be an indentured servant here for years.

    Did anyone see the spin on the jobs numbers from the nightly so-called objective news NBC, ABC, CBS? I saw Blitz Woofer’s take on CNN.

    Going to be 100 and humid. I know all you midwesterners feel sorry for me.

    I can’t stand S.E. Cupp, esp. her awful, raspy voice. I could not tolerate her as a guest on Real Time, so……….What does MSNBC do? Hire her. I told MSNBC to cut their losses, lose S.E. and hire Meghan McCain in her place. I’d watch the show then, not now. They are getting as bad as CNN, hiring the wrong people. What? Are they in competition to see who can do the worst hiring job? OK, everyone be sure to crank up your A/C’s……Hot! Later.

    The real celebration in July was when the Republicans saw that America failed. The economy is still not producing enough jobs and the little progress in June proves that their obstruction and bet against America tactics are working. The voters will remember!

    New numbers released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics show that the economy added a mere 80,000 jobs in June. That’s down from an average of 150,000 jobs a month for the first part of the year, and far too little to keep up with population growth.
    Republican intransigence on economic policy has been a key contributor to the sluggish recovery. As early as 2009, Republican fear-mongering over spending and their readiness to filibuster in the Senate helped convince the White House economic team that an $800 billion stimulus was the most they could hope to get through Congress. Reporting has since revealed that the team thought the country actually needed a stimulus on the order of $1.2 to $1.8 trillion. The economy’s path over the next three years proved them right. Here are the top five ways the Republicans have sabotaged the economic recovery since:
    1. Filibustering the American Jobs Act. Last October, Senate Republicans killed a jobs bill proposed by President Obama that would have pumped $447 billion into the economy. Multiple economic analysts predicted the bill would add around two million jobs and hailed it as defense against a double-dip recession. The Congressional Budget Office also scored it as a net deficit reducer over ten years, and the American public supported the bill.
    2. Stonewalling monetary stimulus. The Federal Reserve can do enormous good for a depressed economy through more aggressive monetary stimulus, and by tolerating a temporarily higher level of inflation. But with everything from Ron Paul’s anti-inflationary crusade to Rick Perry threatening to lynch Chairman Ben Bernanke, Republicans have browbeaten the Fed into not going down this path. Most damagingly, the GOP repeatedly held up President Obama’s nominations to the Federal Reserve Board during the critical months of the recession, leaving the board without the institutional clout it needed to help the economy.
    3. Threatening a debt default. Even though the country didn’t actually hit its debt ceiling last summer, the Republican threat to default on the United States’ outstanding obligations was sufficient to spook financial markets and do real damage to the economy.
    4. Cutting discretionary spending in the debt ceiling deal. The deal the GOP extracted as the price for avoiding default imposed around $900 billion in cuts over ten years. It included $30.5 billion in discretionary cuts in 2012 alone, costing the country 0.3 percent in economic growth and 323,000 jobs, according to estimates from the Economic Policy Institute. Starting in 2013, the deal will trigger another $1.2 trillion in cuts over ten years.
    5. Cutting discretionary spending in the budget deal. While not as cataclysmic as the debt ceiling brinksmanship, Republicans also threatened a shutdown of the government in early 2011 if cuts were not made to that year’s budget. The deal they struck with the White House cut $38 billion from food stamps, health, education, law enforcement, and low-income programs among others, while sparing defense almost entirely.
    There have also been a few near-misses, in which the GOP almost prevented help from coming to the economy. The Republicans in the House delayed a transportation bill that saved as many as 1.9 million jobs. House Committees run by the GOP have passed proposals aimed at cutting billions from food stamps, and the party has repeatedly threatened to kill extensions of unemployment insurance and cuts to the payroll tax.
    According to the Congressional Budget Office, those policies — the payroll tax cut, food stamps, unemployment insurance, and discretionary spending for low-income Americans — have the highest multipliers, meaning more job boosting potential per dollar.

    How about real old fashioned job growth. Company A makes money selling goods and services. They expand to meet the demand. They have to hire more people.

    Real time with Bill Maher? They talk about the haters on the right. Maher is an arrogant, self rightous, cold, souless person. I wouldn’t watch his show if you held a gun to my head!!!!

    Anywhere I can find the Five’s numbers for the 4th?

  • Coffee Steve

    I don’t believe in spin, I believe in facts and if people would simply take the time to read the “actual jobs report” and stop listening to all the networks and not spinning the same junk they do, they would know how bad this jobs report really was.

    Construction jobs have stopped, no growth, the GDP is growing at less than a 1% rate, consumer spending for the 4th straight month has dropped, and some news anchor tells us there is some good in this?

    The economy is dismal, it’s stagnet, it’s NOT growing, and no amount of spin can change that fact. 4 years now and we are still stuck in mud.

    Here is th “ACTUAL” Jobs report without the spin…

    Oh? and make sure you check the revised numbers..as usual each week, they are adjusted to be worse than the original, but the media somehow forgets to release that info each week.

    Hello All,
    Yes, so tired of excuses and hearing I, I, I me, me ,me from the president. We need a change. Hot here in Texas but chance of rain all week so that is a good thing.
    The UN treaty is a scary thing as are the drones. I disagree with the ACLU on most everything but they are all over the drones. Hope more people will tune in to the problems. Hard to believe McDonald thought they were a good thing.

    1nancy2 I don’t mind her, I enjoyed her on any of her appearances, just shows how bad a conservative look up against progressives even though she is very attractive her views look and sound ugly.

    Good Morning Sunshine, Nancy, Mike & Jeff

    ITL Mike, it works better these days to have em in China……. Ask Mitt, not me!

    It’s better to have a empty room in Ireland and call it your Global HQ to avoid your patriotic duty…….ask Mitt, he will agree!

    @Letmethink

    Good Morning

    Were in out last day of our major heat wave, 10 days over 100 and today an all-time record of 108 is possible. Sunday the rain moves in and we’re going into the 80 for a few weeks.

  • Jeff

    Seems when Fox and their neo con dolts have to sit and count how many times he says a certain word, it only means they are running out of valid criticism and are afraid of losing the election because their nominee sucks!!

  • Letmethink

    CS, glad you are going to get some relief. I think it has been hotter where you live–Kentucky I think you said–than here in TX.

  • Jeff

    @ITL Mike if you have ever had a gun to your head, you might just do about anything,Just saying!
    Maher has many big named conservatives on his program, the ones that aren’t hiding on Fox all the time. Maher is brilliant and pi$$es off the Neo Cons so I love his program along with over 4 million+ viewers every program.

    The Five’s Bob Beckel: MSNBC’s The Cycle ‘Stole Our Format,’ ‘Good Luck, You’ve Got No Prayer’

    When the media world first got wind of MSNBC’s The Cycle, comparisons were instantly drawn between Fox News’ successful afternoon program The Five. Well, perhaps it’s no surprise that the show’s most off-the-cuff personality, Bob Beckel (he of the frequent f-bomb), tore into the MSNBC show for stealing their format and claiming they have “no prayer” of being as relevant as The Five.

    I Love Bob :-)

    I have a friend who owns a business. He had 16 employees four years ago. He now has 8. He is not selling goods.

    He provides health care for his people but he doesn’t understand what the new health law is. He doesn’t know if it is good or bad for his company but if it is to expensive he is going to drop health insurance all together. He does not understand what the new law will be and as he says we (and his wife) don’t have time to read the law.

    Providing health insurance has helped him to retain employees.

    What I think, and I am no expert, we should do is help businesses that don’t provide insurance for employees to cover them. The worker would pay a small amount into the fund. The employer would recieve tax breaks for having his employees covered. Could people game the system and cheat, yes.

    What is the alternative the Government running health care. Wait until you see the fruad and abuse if Obamacare is implemented. The Government has never run anything well. The cost will be stagering and the deficit will explode. We will go bankrupt.
