There’s some people who exaggerated hard as it sounded like Anger Management did really awful then I see the ratings for myself and they still look really good for an original cable comedy.
If Anger Management can actually hold pretty close to this FX will have themselves a hit comedy for years to come and they can start producing more comedies similar to Anger Management because Wilfred and Louie don’t fit in at all.
WOW! Those of you who said the NBA had a huge impact on TNA’s ratings were correct. This was the first week of no NBA competition and Impact Wrestling went back up to 1.5 million viewers for the first time since moving to its new timeslot.
With TNA being so good lately and getting sampled this well is really good news for them as they might be able to keep some permanent eyeballs the rest of the month before the Olympics or NFL preseason starts up in August.
I believe that part of Anger Management’s steep drop was due to the fact that they started off the 9PM hour with a re-run of the show this week when the new episode started LAST week at 9. Maybe some viewers were alienated because they saw that the re-run was showing at 9 and they didn’t think they were airing a new episode that night. They should have kicked off the hour with the new episode, repeat the episode at 9:30 and then kicked off Wilfred and Louie.
In order to measure the success of Anger Management, you’d have to see what the network was expecting ratings wise and how much the network is paying per episode. I think Debar-Mercury/Lionsgate had very high hopes with the show. In fact, I think they thought that the “return of Charlie” was going to be a bigger event than it actually was. While Anger is on par with a standard broadcast comedy, like Parks and Recreation, I think that in order to make the cut, it’ll have to even out at this rating.
Also, FX should think about working in a multi-camera original companion with Anger Management in the 9PM hour.
go friends’ repeats!
@ Jamey @ Joe
I think Anger Management has evened out nicely to this point. This is the roughest time for any TV show is the first few weeks before it stabilizes. Once it stabilizes it will probably grow back the viewers it lost. FX is going to have to develop another multi-cam when AM comes back for season 2. Multi-cams work better in 2 hour blocks.
TNA did pretty well as I had a feeling the NBA was holding it down.
@ Desperate Houseboy
Friends repeats has done so well for them since it started last fall.
Conan O’Brian… his show has to be draining TBS’s balance sheet, he scores worse then episodes that have been on repeats for 20 years straight; of Seinfeld and Friends… on top of that he lifts a giant paycheck and have a large crew. *phew*
-I love Conan and his show, but hes been given a lot of time now to build his show. So maybe he should be more modest, Vis-a-vis his claims towards Leno and NBC.
Well going from a 2.3 all the way down to a 1.3 is awful but July 4th may be a factor too. See how AM does next week.
WOW! Anger Management fell HARD. Plus, if FX renews it, don’t they have to renew it for 90 episodes?
Awkward stinks, no surprise it went down.
Anger Managements numbers are actually okay. Sheen isn’t on as much money as he was on TAAHM.
Still solid for Anger Management and Wilfred even with the drop.
@Jon
But over 3 million views is still FANTASTIC for FX.
Yes, but you gotta wonder how much they have to pay Charlie Sheen to get those numbers. Considering the big contract blow=up at CBS, he was NOT cheap. So it may not actually pay off for FX–although they may be willing to use it as a “loss leader” even if it isn’t quite yet.
anger management stinks
I guess since Kathy isn’t on this list, it got less than a 0.3 in the demo? Ouch.
liked Anger Management episode..some wants this show to fail therefore they exagerated in their comments about the ratings..it is pretty pathetic imo..lot’s of us will watch so bitter people move on !
@Joshua, because our list is ranked by adults 25-54 (and then we re-sort by 18-49) it isn’t safe to make such assumptions. But in the case of Kathy, the assumption is correct. at 10p on Bravo it averaged a 0.2 A18-49 rtg and 499,000 total viewers.
do you know how Hollywood Heights on Nick at night did.
I don’t think these numbers good enough for Anger Management. Sheen was getting over a million for TAAHM. So i think just Sheen’s salary higher than all FX lineup’s production overall.
The NYT says that Sheen owns a percentage of the show, which is probably how Roth was able to broker the deal getting it on the air for a price FX could afford, btw. This essentially foregoes part of the producer’s profit, although, it may not be a large percentage. This could affect the show’s cost and therefore its renewal.
It’s impossible to judge the success Anger Management because we don’t know the deals and ratings expectations.
It has been reported that Charlie Sheen gets more than 20% of the back-end in lieu of up-front salary.
Contracts have almost certainly already been signed with Sheen, syndicators and FX based on Anger Management’s ratings, but it’s impossible to know what the trigger number is.
You’re shooting completely in the dark, largely based on what salary Sheen is willing to accept.
