MIAMI – July 10, 2012 – Telemundo Media ’s premiere of “Pablo Escobar: El Patron del Mal” (Pablo Escobar, The Drug Lord) last night at 10 P.M. ET averaged nearly 2.2 million total viewers and 1,264,000 adults 18-49, increasing the time period delivery by triple digits versus the prior month and double digits versus the prior year in key demos, according to Nielsen. The epic drama about the life of one of the most-wanted drug lords in history was the second most watched novela premiere among adults 18-49 in Telemundo history (“La Reina del Sur” stands as Telemundo’s highest-rated novela launch) beating ABC’s “Glass House” and NBC’s Grimm in the daypart, and ranking as the #1 10 P.M. program in all of television regardless of language in Miami and New York. In addition, the international hit starring Andres Parra as Pablo Escobar, with Angie Cepeda and Cecilia Navia, marked Telemundo’s most successful social media premiere to date delivering 5.8 million impressions via Twitter and more than 1 million impressions on Facebook.
The premiere of “Pablo Escobar, El Patron del Mal,” a story brought to life by Juana Uribe and Camilo Cano who both had family members killed by Pablo Escobar, delivered impressive growth compared to the prior year time period, boasting a +68% increase among total viewers (2,186,000 vs. 1,301,000) and +75% in Adults 18-49 (1,264,000 vs. 721,000). Additionally, the compelling broadcast’s second half hour grew by +10% among total viewers (10 P.M. – 2,085,000 vs. 10:30 P.M. 2,288,000) and +12% among Adults 18-49 (10 P.M. – 1,191,000 vs 10:30 P.M. -1,337,000).
The broadcast of “Pablo Escobar, el Patron del Mal” also captured 33% of the Adults 18-49 audience watching the major Spanish-language TV broadcast networks (Telemundo, Univision, Telefutura) at 10 P.M. last night, more than doubling the network’s June’12 share in the time period. The premiere broadcast also reached a cumulative audience of more than 2.8 million total viewers and more than 1.6 million Adults 18-49.
