(SILVER SPRING, MD)–The science fiction world was abuzz with anticipation earlier this month when the news broke of SCIENCE’s FIREFLY 10-year anniversary panel at Comic-Con International 2012: San Diego (Comic-Con) on Friday, July 13. Comic-Con is just the beginning of the tribute, as Browncoats everywhere can board Serenity for a full marathon of the classic series followed by BROWNCOATS UNITE, a world premiere anniversary special exploring the FIREFLY phenomenon debuting November 11 on SCIENCE.

The hour-long special will feature exclusive footage from the Comic-Com panel featuring series creator Joss Whedon, stars Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, Summer Glau, Adam Baldwin, Sean Maher, show runner Tim Minear, and writer Jose Molina, as well as a behind-the-scenes roundtable facilitated by Entertainment Weekly’s Jeff Jensen. BROWNCOATS UNITE will unearth defining memories from both sides of the camera and feature first-person accounts from the individuals who made the franchise a modern classic.

“FIREFLY is a landmark work of science fiction and a favorite with our viewers. Ever since it premiered on SCIENCE, fans have asked us to do something special to mark its 10-year anniversary,” said Debbie Myers, General Manager and Executive Vice President of SCIENCE. “With this signature celebration, punctuated by BROWNCOATS UNITE, we will connect the minds behind this classic franchise with its legions of passionate fans.”

The FIREFLY 10-year anniversary panel will take place on July 13 from 12:30 PM PT in Room 20 at Comic-Con International: San Diego 2012. A press conference will follow at 2:00 PM PT in room Aqua 300 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront.

BROWNCOATS UNITE is produced for SCIENCE by Pangolin Pictures. For Pangolin Pictures, Kevin Bachar is director and executive producer, Laura Sobel is producer, and Rick Ramirez is co-producer. Bernadette McDaid is the executive producer and vice president of production for SCIENCE.

I guess that’s the “Buzzworthy news” we were promissed earlier by Science channel.

  • USAmerica1st

@chrisdvanne, probably so. Science channel is getting a foothold in the sic/fi world by grabbing Firefly, going to Comicon, and with this special. Now it needs to grab some more cult sci-fi shows sitting on the sidelines like Sliders, Space: Above and Beyond, and Brisco County, Jr.

How long before the Browncoats start begging Science to produce new episodes or made for tv movies?

They can flood the network with “Brown Coats”!

    ROTFLMAO!

  • JJA

It is somewhat impressive how Firefly buzz doesn’t seem to die, even though it only had 13 episodes and a movie nobody went to see.

SyFy or FX should consider a relaunch.

A well made tv movie could test the ratings waters. It might pull in enough people in cable ratings to justify more. No one would have to break existing contracts with other shows to make a one off tv movie and fans get something new.
