IN A HOLIDAY WEEK OF ENCORES, JAY AND JIMMY DELIVER BIGGER AUDIENCES THAN THEIR ABC AND CBS TIME-PERIOD COMPETITION IN EVERY KEY CATEGORY: ADULTS, MEN AND WOMEN 18-34, 18-49 AND 25-54, PLUS TOTAL VIEWERS

 

SEASON TO DATE, JAY HAS STRETCHED HIS TOTAL-VIEWER LEAD OVER ‘Late Show’ TO 18 PERCENT FROM THE YEAR-AGO 12 PERCENT; JIMMY FALLON HAS ALSO INCREASED HIS MARGIN OVER ‘LATE Late Show’ TO 18 PERCENT , UP FROM LAST YEAR’S 4 PERCENT

 

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – July 12, 2012 – NBC’s “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” have generated bigger audiences than the ABC and CBS time-period competition in all key ratings categories for the week of July 2-6, a holiday week of mostly encore telecasts in which all Wednesday results were excluded.

 

“Tonight” delivered bigger audiences than the time-period competition of CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman" and ABC's combination of "Nightline" and "Jimmy Kimmel Live" in every key ratings category: adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, plus total viewers. And Jimmy Fallon likewise out-delivered CBS’s “Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” and “Kimmel” head to head for their common half-hour in each of those categories.

 

Through the first 42 weeks of the 2011-12 broadcast year, "Tonight" has increased its total-viewer margin over "Late Show" to 18 percent (3.683 million vs. 3.124 million), up from the year-ago season-to-date advantage of 12 percent. Jimmy Fallon has also established a total-viewer lead over "Late Late Show" this season of 18 percent (1.754 million vs. 1.491 million), up from last year's advantage of 4 percent. Jimmy has also increased his season-to-date lead over "Late Late Show" in adults 18-34, to 44 percent (273,000 vs. 190,000) up from last year's 28 percent, and in adults 25-54, up to 13 percent (850,000 vs. 753,000) from 6 percent at this point last season.

 

"Tonight" delivered a bigger 18-49 audience than "Late Show" for the 25th time in 29 weeks while Jimmy Fallon attracted a bigger 18-49 audience than "Late Late Show" for a 32nd week in a row.

    Leno will stay on TV as long as he wants! It’s Conan and his pathetic .4 and. 5 ratings that put him on shaky ground!

    Leno may be on tv as long as he wants…his days at NBC are drawing to a close. NBC may retain him somewhere, but he won’t be renewed at 11:30.

    And week by week is interesting, but their season to date ratings are tied in the demo.

    I bet you it was canned laughter. Notice the long pauses before the punchlines. Even when she messed up her jokes giving two punchlines, “The only other people to do a double mctwist 1260 was last week… the white house… on health care”, the laughters were exactly on “health care”, not a chuckle for “the white house”. Hmm.

    Hard to laugh when you’re asleep or wishing you had tickets for Wheel of Fortune.

    The shows aren’t live, and if they were, it would be 8:35pm in LA. A typical starting time for any live show.

    And who the heck want to see Wheel of Fortune! LOL! I would rather sit in any other show than that!

    No, we know it’s not live. They’re asleep because of the show. It’s as boring in person as it is on TV.

    Actually, Wheel is an exciting thing to see live.

    (And, it gets almost 4x the ratings of Leno and Letterman, gotta respect a show going on 40 years old that clobbers most network prime time shows.)
