This may simply be the act of the war between Viacom and Directv; however maybe people are just not tuning in because of the writers! Either way not good news for soap fans!

How low does GH have to go before ABC pulls the plug on GH? I think GH has gone down for 5 straight weeks in a row now. They have also tied a low in the ratings. Until they wrap up this stupid dead baby story I won’t watch. I just can’t watch anymore dead baby stories they are depressing. I don’t like the DID story with Kate and I can’t stand Todd or John McBain. I didn’t care for either of them on OLTL, but the dead baby story and the paternity switch is the reason I quit watching. You can only do so many paternity switch stories before they get really old. I just watched a year long one on OLTL and I won’t watch another long drawn out paternity story.

I don’t like the fact that Y&R went down. Right now I think that soap is great and I enjoy watching it.

Days was great. Not surprised of GH’s fall. GH is so unwatchable.

  • diane

I like the young and the restless ,dayes of our lives been watching a long time still miss oltl and amc wating for ABCD to give back the rights to agness nixon and maybe some one else will pick up our soaps they are like loosing a family member and i do nlot like ABCD telling me what i shjould like to watch so lets get on with it all ready give us back our soaps and for goodness sakes some one please pick up our soaps and show ABCD that they are not all that thank you

  • Darcy

@TV Talks Numbers the viacom thing with Directv didn’t happen until this week and also we still have our networks. The networks aren’t part of viacom.

@Robert you are right about GH it is unwatchable right now. It is just horrible.

  • Nick

I’m officially done with GH. The show is such a dark, depressing mess and I’m not at all surprised by these near-all-time low numbers. When are RC and FV going to actually wake up and finally realize that the stale, recycled garbage they keep writing and putting on the airwaves is clearly not working? They’re not fooling anyone. These guys are so overrated and lazy, and I can’t for the life of me understand the kudos they keep getting from the soap shills in the press. We’ve had enough of dead baby, DID, and DNA switch stories to last a lifetime, and enough already with the OLTL characters! No wonder this show is on life support.

The bottom line is-they’ve been in charge for 5 months and have not moved the ratings needle one iota. If anything, the numbers have gone down from where they were before. That’s all you need to know. Maybe this really is part of ABC’s master plan. And it has very little to do with the poor lead-in programs.

    ABC soaps….Mwahahahaha!

  • Cath

General Hospital was a huge snooze-fest this past week so I don’t have much hope for next week’s ratings either. Police find a body in the woods. Do said police bother TO SEARCH THE WHOLE AREA? No. There is a shed nearby. Does anyone search it? Nope.

I don’t really care whether Sam and Jason get back together but the way they were ripped apart was nonsensical. I don’t really care sums up my reaction to the whole show. There is not one couple that is interesting to watch, except for Heather and Todd (that is the actors accomplishment, not the writers). Nothing to make a viewer, especially a long time GH viewer, need to watch the show. Viewers are no longer excited about these shows because the powers that be have deliberately killed off the genre on American TV. It is a shame. These so called experts have turned a once interesting, exciting, romantic, and fun show into a morose mess.

I agree with Nick. It certainly feels like a plan to make enough viewers turn the show off and tune out. A funny way to run a business because when I stop watching General Hospital there is little likelihood that I will watch much of anything on ABC.

The numbers for the daytime network talk shows for the week of July 2…

The View (ABC): 3.11 million (aired repeat episode Wed., July 4)
The Talk (CBS): 2.02 million (aired repeats all week)
The Chew (ABC): 1.99 million (aired repeats all week)
The Revolution (ABC): 1.23 million (final five episodes)

Diane…I will never understand the argument that ABC needs to ‘give the rights to AMC and OLTL back to Agnes Nixon’. First of all, Nixon SOLD the rights, so if she wants them back, she should have to PAY for them. Second, why should ABC sell the rights to Nixon? The sale was legitimate and ABC is entitled to keep them as long as they want. I don’t really believe that Nixon (especially given her advance age) could really make AMC and OLTL financially viable when ABC struggled to do just that and Prospect Park found it virtually impossible to do so. Nixon would need more than $100 million just to produce one year’s worth of episodes for both shows. I don’t think she can find that amount of money in between her sofa cushions.

Instead of trying to resurrect AMC and/or OLTL (let’s face it, most of these Save Our Show campaigns fail), fans would be better served to try and keep the remaining soaps on the air. I always say, the best time to save a show from cancellation is before it is canceled.

Bring back Another World. I miss Sven. He was evil and it was great.

  • Nick

You are all crazy!! This is Fourth of July week people!! Of course the ratings are down. It’s the same reason why the ratings are a day late.

  • James

GH has been good for a while. Course, I’m a guy. And look at Men18+ ratings! While in last they keep going up. Todd and McBain rule. I may be in minority though…

  • diana

Okay, DAYS is just not grabbing me, I like Sami&Lucas, but the show is trying too hard to hold on to Lumi AND Ejami fans, they’re going to have to make a decision. I feel like they’re in a holding pattern here. The other characters I like, Jack and Melanie, are leaving the show. Not much worth watching here. As for GH, they don’t have one couple I like right now. And that’s the name of the game for me. Couples. Romantic comedy, romantic adventure, weddings, schmaltzy love stories .. this used to be the soaps’ area of expertise. I don’t know why it changed to just a lot of bedhopping, but it’s got to stop. They’re losing viewers.

  • Richard

The ratings were not late this week due to 4th of July. Yes they could have been down simply because it was the 4th of July week since 3 of the 4 didn’t even count the 4th but B&B would have actually been okay since their show was rated higher on the 4th.

Many people simply were on vacation, etc.

But none of the other ratings were a day late. It just happens sometimes that the man or woman that gets them for Soap Opera Network was late with them for some reason. The ratings delays happened around the 4th and right after but were ironed out as the week went on.

So yes the ratings are down somewhat due to the 4th but they weren’t late this week due to the 4th.

Y&R has been terrific lately, would like to see their numbers rise back up. 4.5 million seems like a threshhold, if it’s below that I don’t like it, and I’m sure the network or Sony doesn’t either. It seems odd that with only -38K it’s still down .2, but maybe the holiday had something to do with it. Anyway, the acting has been phenomenal and the storylines are keeping me interested.

  • Zac

I agree with James. I think they’ve done an excellent job bringing in “new” characters and keeping the show fresh. Minority or not, I’m very pleased with what I see everyday.

  • TNA is better than WWE

DAYS has been so amazing lately with the Melanie stuff that has been a thrill ride as Gabby is so dumb. I would love for them to keep Andrew as a permanent character this dude is so funny. I hope Mel doesn’t get murdered.

Y&R has been fantastic lately too as its been watchable for about a month now.

B&B is the same ol’ same ol’ they need to work on some new relationships.

GH is going to improve once its in the new slot in September and I think that’s when GH finally takes off.

  • Joan

What does ABC replace GH with? It’s doing better in the 18-49 demographic than Good Afternoon America, and for some reason, ABC doesn’t want anyone to know The Chew’s ratings – I haven’t seen them posted in a while.

I just don’t get all this fascination about General Hospital moving timeslot. Do people truly believe this will be the miracle cure to GH’s problems?
