July 18, 2012 (Burbank, CA) The CW announced today that it will kick off its Fall 2012 season with an exclusive broadcast of Clear Channel’s massive iHeartRadio Music Festival, Monday, Oct. 1, 8:00-10:00 p.m. ET. The two-day concert event will take place Sept. 21-22 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV.

Artists scheduled to perform at this year’s iHeartRadio Music Festival include Usher, Bon Jovi, Taylor Swift, Swedish House Mafia, P!nk, Aerosmith, Rihanna, No Doubt, Lil Wayne, Miranda Lambert, Shakira, Brad Paisley, Enrique Iglesias, Green Day, Jason Aldean, Mary J. Blige, Linkin Park, deadmau5, Calvin Harris and Pitbull with more to be announced in the weeks prior to the event. The performances to be featured on The CW’s Oct. 1 special will be determined and announced following the two-day concert event.

“The inaugural iHeartRadio Music Festival was an amazing experience for our listeners and music fans across America, and this year’s lineup is again going to exceed all expectations. With The CW as the Festival’s TV broadcast partner, we can give people who can’t be in Las Vegas the ability to watch this extraordinary event from their own living rooms,” said John Sykes, President of Clear Channel Entertainment Enterprises. “This exclusive broadcast event emphasizes our commitment to bringing great music and content to our audience anywhere they want it.”

“The CW is thrilled to partner with Clear Channel to bring our viewers the exclusive TV broadcast of 2012 iHeartRadio Music Festival,” said Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW. “What better way to kick off our new fall season than with many of the music industry’s biggest acts on The CW.”

The following night, Tuesday, Oct. 2, The CW’s fall premiere week begins, with the season premiere of Hart Of Dixie, 8:00-9:00 p.m. ET.

This year The CW has the most shows I’m interested in. Can’t wait for Arrow, Beauty and The Beast and Emily Owens (I hate this name, I mean, almost everyone does), and can’t wait for season premieres of Nikita, Hart and TVD (I also watch GG, 90210)

This might be the smartest thing that the CW has ever done, except greenlighting Cult

WOW! This looks good, really good !!!!!!!!

In theory, broadcasting these selected performances from the I-Heart Music Festival should bring strong ratings.

But in reality, music and concert specials haven’t done well on TV, certainly not as well as one thinks they would.

I could eventually see this special released as a DVD…with a “bonus feature” being all the other performances that don’t make the CW special.

The CW is clearly growing up…

If you want to watch the network’s best show then watch The L.A. Complex you won’t regret it.
