Chrisann, you out there? I miss your comments. GO GH!

  • MBmomof3

I see Kelly Monaco is scheduled to compete in the DWTS All Stars show coming up in September. I think that too should really help GH especially with GH’s schedule change. I’m excited for the fans, but I’ve stuck to my ABC boycott (except GH, of course). If Donald Driver couldn’t compel me to watch, I don’t think there is a human on this earth who could tempt me. Maybe Billy Joel Armstrong from Green Day or a character from the Simpsons, but I think I’m safe from temptation. GOOD LUCK KELLY. I believe I read she won the first time around, as did the awesome DD. GO PACK GO! (sorry, but the phrase “GO PACK GO” is an auto-reflex, like breathing).

  • Amanda

Just to let the GH fans know, one of the ABC execs wants to keep GAA on. I’m not sure what that will mean for GH.

  • MBmomof3

@Amanda, not that I doubt you, but can you link or verify your source? Thank you.

Why should NBC release a press about “ratings jump”? All Days of Our Lives did was bouncing back its new lows from the week of July 9 to go back to the (also low) ratings it had the week before. There’s nothing for NBC to be enchanted of to waste its time releasing a press about that.

On a more positive note for the soaps, I personally do believe that the pending cancellation of GH and Days is more a “if” situation than a “when” situation. In any case, I tend to think that whatever happens to one of them will influence the other. In other words, if GH or Days gets cancelled, the other will also get cancelled. Likewise, if GH or Days get to stay on the air, the other will also stay on the air. ABC and NBC may “hate” each other, but they may also be influenced by each other, especially when it comes to an important decision such as whether or not to exit the soap opera industry.

One thing that I’m 99% sure is that GH will never air again at 3:00pm no matter what happens to Katie. Affiliates will not return that timeslot to ABC. This isn’t the 1960s or early 1970s, when being an affiliate was the “in” thing to do. Nowadays, affiliates are trying to distance themselves from networks the more possible. And on the rare occasions that affiliates do give back a timeslot to a network, it is invariably in exchange of another timeslot by the network.

To finish, I’d like to give a round of applause to Y&R for finally getting rid of Maria Arena Bell (though Jill Farren Phelps isn’t exactly the solution).

@Dave.A, I agree with your above post entirely, with the exception that NBC should issue a press release for Days. While their ratings aren’t stellar, they should be promoting the big cliffhanger, encourage return viewers post-Olympics, AND while they’re at it mention the improved ratings. As I have often indicated numbers can, and frankly, should be spun in press releases. Dave, you have a good point, but if you wear a hat, no one will notice. (Sorry, old family joke. Couldn’t resist. You do bring alot of value to the discussion and I respect your opinions, please don’t be offended. I respect you enough to hope you will accept my lame joke in the friendly spirit it was intended).

  • Pinevalleylover

Goooo gh! Great news that it rose in viewrship but w 18-49 is still low but at least its an increase and not another new low. I think days will increase next week for its olympic break cliffhanger. I hope gh does well against the olympics!! And i hope GAA goes down in the coming weeks!

I am pretty sure that the folks at The Talk are looking forward to GAA being gone. 2nd straight week they have gone down in either almost or every category.

I am well aware of Jill Farren Phelps’ reputation, but the one area of hope which I have is that I do not think that Sony is giving her carte blanche to do whatever she wants. I don’t buy the argument that they hired her to kill the show because they want out of the soap business. If that’s the case, wouldn’t they have simply stuck with MAB and just let her kill the show? Whether the fans like JFP or not, the woman does know how to “produce” a good show as evidenced by the Emmys that she has on her mantle. If she can simply bring that level of production to Y&R and let Josh Griffith write the stories, I don’t see how it could possibly be worse than the crap that we’ve been fed over the past few years.

Personally, I’d love it if JFP and JG use this as an opportunity to reboot the show. Most true Y&R fans agree that the show started going downhill when they killed Cassie Newman. I say that they have Cassie wake up from a coma and reveal that the past 10 years or so have just been a really awful dream. Nick & Sharon and Victor & Nikki could all still be together. Jill could still be a Foster. John, Brad, Colleen, Sheila, Terrible Tom, Diane, and Ricky would all still be alive. The possibilities would be endless, especially when considering the writers could mine some great backstories that occurred to all of the characters over the past 10 years to which Cassie, and us viewers, were not privy while she was in the coma.

To all GH fans: I just received an email from the General Manager of my local ABC affiliate confirming that GH will indeed appear on the fall schedule at 1 p.m. (CST)! Woo Hoo! And thank you to WISN Channel 12 for having the wisdom to know what their customers want! I am very relieved, because, while they have been very gracious in all their communications with me, they could not confirm this until today.

  • Darcy

@Amanda I read the same thing that ABC wants to keep GAA on. I have to admit I have been watching GAA and it is a pretty good show.

  • Chrisann

I am thrilled GH went up! Now we need to get the young audience to tune in. Watching GH on Thursday(?)Todd talking to Kate…”We need another fashion Magazine like we need another Daytime Talk show” LOL Nice one!

  • Chrisann

MBMom, Hi Love your comments too. Last week I said I agreed with some of Daves comments and then later he came on and I don’t know…. but I think he went way to far with his comments to Richard. I was kind of shocked at the things he was saying. I wish we had a ignore button sometimes.

  • Richard

Hey Chrisann, Good to see you back. I was so on edge with him last week that I feel bad that you got caught up in that. I really apologize to you as I should have never said what I said to you.

I am just trying to do my best to ignore anything he says. I didn’t even read his post this time and not going too.

I wish we had an ignore button too. But I am just going to try to use my scroll button on my mouse and just scroll right past it.

I love discussing things on here and listening to what folks say even when I don’t agree with them.

I guess I just have an inquisitive nature about some things. I never have watched Y&R but I am just so anxious to see how all these changes play out in the ratings. What it will mean for them? And what it might mean for B&B even. It’s weird that in studying B&B is still totally run by the Bell family with no influence by Sony. Yet Y&R has been falling and B&B has been steadily moving on up. And I even read yesterday that many of the outcasts from the staff of Y&R in the last few years are now on staff at B&B.

An example of recycling that is paying off for B&B.

There are so many rumors going around as to why Sony has done what it has done to Days and Y&R including them just wanting to go younger to try and capture a younger audience — to some even saying that they want Y&R to be more streamlined like the ABC soaps were.

Anyway all this backstage stuff is like a big old soap opera story to me. And I am loving watching it unfold.

  • Rhonda

@Chrisann I would watch gh if it wasn’t for Jason, Sam, baby story. That story is what killed it for me. I can’t watch anymore dead baby stories. They are just to depressing and this is the third one for gh in a year. The dead baby story for me is personal since i had a miscarriage last year. I want to see a happy couple enjoying their baby. I don’t really like the DID story with Kate but I would have stuck it out and continued to watch if they wouldn’t have done the dead baby story. I haven’t watched gh since the 1st of June so maybe that story is over i don’t know. I gave up hope on gh so i don’t even read the daily recaps to see what is going on

  • Richard

David.A — is that you Dave.A and not the other David?

I just saw David and scrolled right past your post before.

  • Lalac

Hopefully DAYSASTER helps out DAYS when it returns as that was an amazing cliffhanger yesterday.

Good week for GH as they’ve been on the top of their game lately, the new characters are starting to fit in well right now.

Y&R and B&B have been addictive lately as B&B had a good couple of weeks with the Hope stuff finally getting interesting including her character and the Marcus driving accident stuff too.

I feel really optimistic that these last four soaps will last past 2013. If they can always keep that license fee down they’ll survive and if GH holds their own at 2pm ABC won’t make the mistake again that made with OLTL of pulling it.

  • Dave.A

Yes, David.A is Dave.A. The David with the avatar.

I’m not the same David as the one that used to post as Chris B.

    Take care

  • Richard

    Hey Dave,

Didn’t mean to avoid your post since it was u.

I see what you are saying about them not releasing a statement. It is just rumored that NBC was behind the changes along with Sony and just basically shutting Ken Corday out.

If NBC is that concerned about the ratings and wanting to make the show work, you would think something as simple as issuing a press release would be something simple. If they don’t release a press release it doesn’t get printed, but when they do it is a special posts on boards just to focus on Days. A simple email sent to folks doesn’t seem like it would cost hardly anything.

I mean sure there is not much to boast about since they are still at lows, but there have been other weeks that NBC twisted the numbers not just for Days but for other shows — just for some free publicity.

I just figured it would be something they would take advantage of since the show did show some fairly good gains esp. in 18-49 which even a novice like me could twist into something press worthy. LOL
